Diner food on the road

If you're in the neighborhood of Walterboro, SC on I-95 at exit 57 this is a good place to go for good food with friendly service in a comfortable atmosphere somewhere between a diner and a restaurant. It has a full service bar, for example. We've had lunch and dinner there and the food has always been good and there are non-fried choices on the menu; something that is getting rarer on the road.

My wife and I ate there this evening. We just wanted some appetizer type food. We ordered chicken wings and the shrimp with cheese. We also ordered two draft beers. However, the chicken wings were very tough and very rubbery. The shrimp was very good and the beer was cold. When the waitress came, she asked us how everything was, I informed her of the above-mentioned. She said she was sorry, she asked us if she could get us something else, and we responded no we would take our bill. We paid our bill and asked for the manager, who came out and we explained all of the above to him. He said he was sorry and no one had ever complained about the chicken wings. He offered to compensate us for the beers, and I told him I didn't want any compensation, that I just wanted to pass along what we had experienced. His response was thank you, and he would pass it along to the Cook, and he hoped to see us again. First, the waitress should have gotten the manager without us having to ask for him. Secondly, a manager should have acted like he had some what of a concern and not insinuate that we have never tasted good wings. This establishment advertised a much broader menu on their website as we were traveling. Understanding that The covid19 had an effect on every business we cannot assume that they could get all the supplies they needed which is okay, however, when you charge above average prices for their food, you should expect above-average food. They also advertised great atmosphere. If you're into bright continuous track lighting, you're in for a treat.

Great food stop off I-95 in Walterboro

We dined at Fat Jacks on Monday 1/13/20. Great little stop just outside the Walmart in Walterboro. The restaurant is clean and the food fresh. For an app, we ordered the Southwestern "eggrolls" which arrived quickly and steaming hot! Collectively our group ordered: salmon, wings, crab cakes, and scallops. Entrees arrived hot and were tasty. Scallops fried but not overly battered. The grilled salmon was cooked perfectly and was topped with a delicious spice mix. I love that the baked potatoes were baked thoroughly and arrived piping hot! Our server, Vanessa, was friendly and attentive, she stayed on top of us with drinks, too. Restrooms are clean, overall a great experience. We plan to return to Fat Jack's, what a nice alternative to fast food on I-95.

Late Sunday lunch

We stopped at Fat Jack’s at 2 pm on a Sunday while on a road trip from FL to Maine. The restaurant is larger than I expected and is near a Super Walmart and gas station. We did not have to wait for a table, but they were certainly very busy for a late lunch on a Sunday. They did have a special lunch menu where, for $9.99 you can get a meat entree along with 2 sides, and there were a lot of choices for sides. This seemed to be the most popular selection being ordered by many of the locals who were dining after church. We instead chose items from the regular menu. My husband got the grilled chicken sandwich with a baked sweet potato on the side. The sandwich was good sized, but he said it didn’t have a lot of flavor. He did enjoy the sweet potato. I believe the sandwich was $9.99. I got the mushroom Swiss burger done med well, and waffle sweet potatoes on the side. My meal was delicious and the burger was huge on a toasted bun. I believe mine was $11.99. My husband had iced tea and I had a soda. The total bill was about $31 before tip. I think our sides may have been a small upcharge. I think they have a full bar, as well. Our server was pleasant but busy. The food came out reasonably fast; I think ours took a bit longer than the guests who ordered the lunch special, but we were done and out the door in under an hour. Fat Jack’s is a casual restaurant and seems focused on Southern/comfort food. I give it 3 stars because my husband wasn’t impressed with his grilled chicken sandwich or his weak unsweetened tea. And, our table wasn’t wiped completely clean before we sat down. Knowing what the restaurant is now, we still might return again if in the area.

Fatter than Jack!

My husband and I stopped here for lunch after visiting the Southern Crafts Center (awesome). We were starving and a little hesitant but we shouldn’t have been. This place is absolutely wonderful and the prices are very reasonable. The veggies are delicious and the fried shrimp platter with green beans and sweet potato was nothing short of magnificent, as good as my favorite little restaurant serves on Jekyll Island, Georgia. Topped off by a huge slice of moist chocolate cake big enough to share, and served by one of the friendliest ladies I’ve ever met, my husband and I were definitely satisfied customers. This place is not to be missed so that you too, can also walk out the door, Fatter than Jack!’

Place to eat in town but everything is fried except the burgers. A bit too fattening for me

I came as an alternative pizza parlors, fast food snd barbeque in town. We stop here two times a year on our trip to snd from Florida. We have tried all other viable spots a tried here. Difficult to get anything green snd other then their burgers which looked good but not on my diet is all fried . Staff is fairly attentive and people seem to relish the items served but I think we will. Judy buy ingredients at the supermarket snd make salad in the future . Nothing against them but I expected more

Good Food

After reading the reviews was a little hesitant to try. Was in the area and noticed they had outdoor seating and the parking lot had several cars. Glad we decided to stop. Food was good. Son had the catfish dinner and my daughter had the cheeseburger. Both were good and had plenty of food. Cheeseburger was a thick steak burger style. Catfish was fried perfectly. Had the turkey burger and sweet potato. All good. Server was friendly and helpful. They were crowded and it took about 35 mins to get our food. Would absolutely eat here again. KOI pond outside a great touch.

The best thing about this

The best thing about this food was the napkins . We ate here once before when traveling through , so we thought we would try it again . Philly steak sandwich with French fries . A couple piece of onions and a couple tiny chunks of green pepper , cheese ? Hardly any . The bun was stale, tuff ,and soggy . The French fries were soggy not hot and crisp . Very limp fries ( ish ) The chicken wings ,southern style were hot and tasted pretty good . They did not put any celery in with the order . We picked up the order to go . They said 20 min , we were there in 15 minutes and ate right away in our RV . This was the worse philly sandwich we have ever had . Pretty bad !

Great place!

Great food and friendly atmosphere. Hallie, our waitress was very knowledgeable about the items and how they were prepared. Alot of choices from seafood, steaks, sandwiches and burgers with fries. We were full but still took dessert to go. Try Fat Jack's out! You won't be disappointed!❤

Great place close to I95

While driving from Myrtle Beach home to Florida we stopped for lunch here. It was clean, quick, food was delicious and it was affordable for families. Our waitress was very polite and efficient. The menu offers a great variety. If you’re close to exit 57 off I95 for lunch or dinner definitely give Fat Jacks a try.

Perfect place to stop between Savannah airport and Myrtle Beach.

Fat Jacks is nothing "fancy" but that is just what we wanted after a long day of travel. The wings were great (Buffalo and Sweet & Sour), hot and meaty. The wine was a generous pour. Our waitress, Chelsea, was SO attentive, although the restaurant was crowded on a Saturday night. She gave helpful tips on our snack and the area. SO friendly was the entire staff, and I believe it was from the top down as the manager/owner greeted and said good bye to everyone with a smile.

Great Stop just off I-95

Stopped for a quick lunch while traveling and wanted to avoid chains. We ordered the Fried Chicken special with 2 sides for $10.99. The chicken was delicious, crisp, and not greasy. The Mac & Cheese was very good (homemade). The Lima Beans and in-house Hush Puppies topped off a great meal. Our server Tracy was excellent, very attentive. The restaurant was clean and bright.

Great local spot

My husband and I were traveling from Florida to North Carolina and wanted to find a nice spot for dinner. This was an excellent place. We were seated in the bar area and Vanessa, the bartender/waitress was very attentive and friendly. Food was great, service was excellent, we will definitely be back!!

I was very excited to try this place out as I had been told how amazing it was. Well, it wasn’t. The scallops were chewy. The salad was wilting. The tea wasn’t sweet enough. The shrimp was good and the service was friendly. The baked potato was baked more than twice. It just wasn’t what I had hoped for.

Mom's 94th Birthday Party

Everything was setup and waiting on us when we got there, ( Party of 18 ). Wait staff were prepared and ready to serve all of us. All our orders were taken in a timely manner, with some exception hold outs of course! Orders came out in a timely fashion, faster than expected for such a large group. Great job to the waitresses and the cook staff. Everybody enjoyed their meals with no know complaints that I heard. At the end the entire staff came out and sang Happy Birthday to Mom which she thoroughly enjoyed. Good time had by all. We will be back for more of the same hospitality.
