We’re Italian so we’re not easy to please but I can’t say enough about this wonderful hidden jewel in Walterborough. White tablecloths, black napkins, vintage mini chandeliers, soft music, baby grande piano in the corner. You had me at “Hello”! The pasta served in unique...modern style dishware. More food than you can eat and all six of us were so pleased with the quality of the “gravy” and pasta. The chicken parm was even better than my own. Can’t say enough about the staff. Don’t miss this special place.More

We previously gave Carmine's 5 stars for 2 prior visits. Went back and were disappointed. Food was tasty but the amount of meat (chicken and veal parmigiana) was quite reduced though with both being breaded it was hard to realize visually. Amount of side pasta...was also smaller. Carrots were excellent. What let us down initially was what they didn't have. We asked for butter but they only served oil with bread. They do not have ice tea. Then I requested a small amount of extra sauce, something I've done for 45 years in 100's of Italian restaurant. It came (a bit more than a small amount) but when the bill arrived, there was a $3.50 charge . Our waitress, new but attentive, explained it had been added recently when I pointed out there was no mention of a charge on the menu or by her. I've never been charged for extra sauce - maybe 4 ounces - at any restaurant including many in NYC, Philly, DC and Charlotte So the combination of reduced meat portions, no butter (which they previously had), no ice tea (I'm sure they had it back 2 years) and the ridiculous charge for sauce made without notice reduces our rating for them to 3. I understand how difficult the last 18 months have been for many restaurants but this strongly feels like a makeup charge. We enjoyed our prior meals very much but quite a bit less this time.More

We arrived around 6:00 for dinner and waited just a few minutes for a table. The hostess and waitress were super nice and that's the best I'll say for the restaurant. My cocktail arrived in a beer glass with little ice, my husbands wine was...not good, then he change to a cocktail and it was watered down. My sons pasta must have been something reheated and not at an even temperature and my husbands Salmon and Scallop special, while beautifully presented, was under cooked. We sent it back and believe they just nuked it in the microwave and returned it to our table. My pasta Carbonara was very good. Large portion and was freshly cooked.More

While driving to Hilton Head, we stopped overnight in Walterboro, SC. We looked for a restaurant and found this little gem of an Italian restaurant. It is called Carmines and it is outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant. The wait staff is attentive and will...take great care of you. Five Stars for this establishment.More

We stopped in Walterboro overnight on a long drive to Florida and were lucky to find this place. As we try to avoid chain restaurants, this was a nice and tasty surprise. We ordered the food to go back to the hotel (COVID careful) and...the staff was wonderful and helpful. I found the Tomato & Mozzarella Caprese salad wonderful, with a very nice fresh mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, delicious delicate fresh greens with just the right coarse salt and balsamic dressing. The Mediterranean Salad was also delicious...a perfect blend of feta, soft greens, ripe olives and another excellent dressing. The pasta was delightful too. The pasta portions are large and easily split between two people. On our next family road trip, we will make sure to overnight in this town again and try the lasagna.More

We visited Carmine’s with an entire hungry softball team and their families— 30+ people on an hour or so notice. The waitstaff and chef did a fantastic job. The food was delicious! Would definitely come back when we visit the area.

This was so good we will take this route back south so we can revisit in the fall. The food was wonderfully prepared. Their service was good as well, and their pricing was very fair. We've been to Italy twice and this food was equal...to what we experienced over there. I had rigatoni bolognese, and my wife had veal Limone, which was the BEST she or I have ever eaten.More

No exaggeration - worst service ever. First, waitress was wearing her mask as a chin strap. It took forever for someone to take our order - long enough we were talking about leaving, but she came just as I was deciding to go. I ordered...the Mediterranean Salad with extra feta, wife ordered spaghetti with a meatball (extra charge for the meatball). The salad took about 20 minutes, no extra feta. We waited about another 15 minutes for my wife’s spaghetti. No meatball. Reminded the guy of the meatball, that took another 10-15 minutes. No cheese offered for the pasta. The food was nondescript. After we finished we waited another 15-20 minutes for the check, which never came. So I got up to pay at the bar. The waiter thanked me for coming, apparently unaware I hadn’t paid until I told him so. Much of the time the staff was just hanging around by the bar with the owner Saw very little food coming out of the kitchen. I don’t think these folks have any experience running a restaurant.More

My wife is gluten-free and we have eaten there several times. They have several non-pasta dishes: veal, chicken, fish and shellfish. Enjoy…I know you will.
