Its in Ravenel, SC about a half hour south of Charleston.
My wife and I want real downhome seafood when we visit the coast. We go for the most genuine, just-out-of-the-water type of seafood from good folks who live, work and come from there, native...to the area.
Ravenel Fresh Seafood offers the kind of food that you can only find by someone raised here. Prepared and served by locals Miss Peggy and Mr. Brown. This authentic downhome cooking is the freshest, and bestest we have found anywhere in the Charleston area. Surely you can pay a lot more for food fixed by imported chefs, but does not mean it is authentic, which what you will find here. What you get in those citified restaurants area trendy and staged settings; here you will find a clean but humble concrete building that is unpretentious, with tables outside. Mid-day is best for that personal touch. Miss Peggy even showed my how to eat it!
I tried their signature cooked garlic crabs for lunch; then my wife and I returned for supper for fresh-fried fish, shrimp, and scallops that tasted like they had just been hooked in the ocean.More
We have been going to Edisto Island for years, but had never stopped at Ravenel Fresh Seafood - what a mistake! As others have noted, it is primarily a take-out establishment but does have a couple of inside tables and a couple of outside tables....The menu is large and everything our family of six ordered was excellent. My only disappointment was they had no Garlic Crabs - the weather had prevented harvesting a catch. Well, that give me an excuse to return!More
Delicious, A treasured find. 3 of us Visited this location by reco of neighbor’s grandson. Late for lunch, no customers initially, that quickly changed. In quiet moment, Ms Peggy introduced us to garlic crab and a demo on cracking the shell ( above and beyond!)....Best fried shrimp basket, hush puppies perfect for my taste. Take out Customer line moving quickly with over filled containers. Smiling faces.More
We ate here while attending a conference in N. Charleston. Worth the drive. The garlic crabs and red rice are so wonderful. Kind and efficient staff. No waiting. Amazing for a small eatery. Have never seen any place like it.
This was the Best Fried fresh fish I have had in Charleston County. Service was apparently by the owners. Small place and really not much seating but who cares after you have had the food !!! FRESH Raw FISH TO GO ALSO !!! By the...looks of the business you have probably passed it by . Do Not Make That Mistake Again !!!More
I must say it was the best catfish that I ever had. When I arrived I was hoping for a hole in the wall with a pleasant surprise. I found it. The food was excellant but they dont have a bathroom wish meant I had...to drive to the gas station down the road while my food was preparred. I drove from Orlando to Charleston in which I ate at some much pricier restaurants but none compared to the food at Ravenel Seafood.More
We saw this place on a Zagat YouTube and thought it would be cool to try while on our vacation to Charleston and I'm sure glad we did. I had the best crab legs I have ever had. They were Amazing. The people were extremely...friendly. This is a must for a seafood lover.More
Ravenel seafood is delicious ! They offer a selection of fish and shellfish. Their signature dish is garlic butter crab. The lady brought some out for us to sample and showed us how to eat it! I got a combination of fried oysters, whitefish and...shrimp. It came with more hush puppies than I could eat. I got a side of slaw . It was ALL great. There is also a market inside.More
