Slowest service ever and the rudest hostess and waitress. Waited over 2 hours only to have our plates literally thrown on the table at us. Dick’s Last Resort treats you better! Mediocre food and horrible service. Do not waste your time or money here
My husband and I have eaten here every time we have been in Charleston since 2009- always great service and amazing food. This time was no different! We came in for my birthday lunch- raw oysters for an appetizer are always a must. My husband...got the shrimp and grits and loved it. I had the salmon and shrimp that are always good with the "shem spice". And even got a piece of homemade key lime pie for my birthday :). Another great visit to Shem Creek!More
My wife and I ate here on a Friday night and the business was fairly slow. I know that Covid has had an impact on the way restaurants must work but our waitress was not attentive. We kept having to get her attention and then...she would be slow to respond or another bring whatever was the issue from napkins to salt and pepper. The food was fine as I had peel and eat shrimp with a side salad and my wife the oyster roll. My vodka tonic was replaced with just straight vodka and that was passable but not by muchMore
Came highly recommended by the local crowd. It was so good that we went back the second night! Staff was great and attentive. We took some friends with us the second night and they were so impressed too. The flavor of the seafood is just...remarkable. Shem Creek will be marked as one of our favorites when we are back in town!More
While we had a great server, Jenn, our food was just ok. We had a group of 20 and we didn't get there at the same time. I wanted to pay for 4 people in the first party of 8 that got there (we were...split between 3 tables). They were not friendly when they informed me I couldn't do that.More
Personally, I did not enjoy my dinner. I ordered the crab cakes, and they weren't to my taste. I had the rest of my table taste and it was compared to thanksgiving dressing with crab in it. The coleslaw was also pretty bland. Other people...had chicken strips, chicken breast, and those didn't get good reviews either. However, we had a large group and the salmon, fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, and pasta got rave reviews. Our waitress was really good as well and it was a nice atmosphere.More
on July 1 with the mask ordinance in place Shem Creek Bar & Grill offered no outside dining. All staff and most of the customers wore mask. In the middle of our meal the staff sat a party of 12 20-somethings right in the middle...of the dining room with no mask at all. All the people wearing mask were upset but the staff did not ask them to put on masks --- This is the way the virus is spread and people die -More

I feel the need to respond to this review based on the following:
Outside seating was not available on July 1st due to a heat advisory issued by The National Weather Service; temperatures were expected to feel like it was 105 degrees. We absolutely will...More
The Shem Creek Bar & Grille is a great locals’ spot. There is lots and lots of hubbub about a couple of places farther down the creek past the bridge, but for my money, this is the place to go on Shem Creek. There are...lots of reasons for my recommendation:
PACE: Shem Creek Bar & Grille is big and can be busy, but it’s nowhere near as packed and intense (even during the pandemic) as some other places. It has several different dining areas (inside and outside), plus a nice dock with shade where you can enjoy a beverage and get a close-up view of the goings-on on the creek.
PARKING: I won’t say they have LOTS of parking, but they do have free parking, and we usually get a spot without too much hassle.
DRINKS: Although the Shem Creek Bar & Grille is decidedly a casual place, there is nothing casual about the bars and the bartenders. We had brunch today, and my wife had a mimosa. We watched the bartender squeeze FRESH OJ for the drink with one of those old-fashioned levered juicers. They hand-squeeze the juice on-demand (whether orange, lemon, or lime) for all of their cocktails that require juice. They also have an excellent drink list with lots of salt-water-themed cocktails. Way cool, excellent drinks, and quality that one might not expect in a creekside bar. I give them 5 stars for the bar. Throw out the anchor!
FOOD: They have an open kitchen in the main room where the bar is, and you can watch the magic happen if you’re sitting at the bar. The food is really good, no fancy stuff, just good, fresh, seafood. Shrimp, flounder, red rice, hushpuppies (two people can’t finish an order), and all of the usual suspects prepared the right way. Delicate breading, easy on spices, let the raw ingredients speak for themselves. My wife I went there back in February of March (before the dopey COVID-19), and they had SHAD ROE! And it was so good.
As a local, I hesitate to tell anyone about the Shem Creek Bar & Grille, because I don’t want it to be mobbed. But I have loyalty to folks who do things right, and I want them to do well and keep going. I headlined this review by calling the Shem Creek Bar & Grille a treasure, and a treasure it is indeed. Can’t wait to go back.More
Our family of 6 stopped here for happy hour but due to the coronavirus, they were not serving their happy hour reduced price food menu. So, we ordered the full price menu appetizers and the wings and hush puppies were good. The Shem's Creek shrimp...sauce was excellent! Just wished they would have offered the happy hour prices even though we couldn't sit at the bar area. They have a very pretty view!More
