Brentwood is the answer to my 30 years of seeking a "good" restaurant (more than standard fried seafood) near Ocean Isle, NC and other NC beaches north of Myrtle Beach. It is my favorite restaurant in the region. We ate there again last week and...were again very happy. Only 7 minutes from the standard Calabash restaurants, Brentwood offers excellent fresh seafood and beef dishes--as well as escargot and other French dishes, at prices that are reasonable. You can wear shorts and still eat well--with a good wine selection. Attractive location as well.More

Food excellent. Service very slow. The entrée orderd had shrimp, crab and fish stated. The dish arrived with shrimp (tail on) and muscles. Did not want to wrestle with shrimp tail and shells.

We went with friends to celebrate our Anniversary’s We were seated and waited. There were a few tables in the room. Finally the waitress came and told us they sat all the tables in the room. She was the only waitress. Came with water and...bread. We waited to put our order in. Well it took over an hour to get the food. For the price the portion was skimpy. Three small scallops on the risotto. Two scallops and three shrimp on the scampi. Very disappointing. Service was slow because they sat to many in the section. Dessert took forever and the waitress did the bill incorrectly. Just not a good experience. Had high hopes for this place. Will not be back. We ended up being the last to leave.More

Great staff, delicious food! Chef Steve has put together an excellent menu. He came into our dining room to check on us several times. He has a real passion for his craft. From start to finish this local landmark is a cut above the rest. We had made prior reservation before arriving on a Tuesday evening at 7pm. The establishment is an old Victorian style home that is set back off the main highway 17. Upon entering...we were promptly greeted by a friendly hostess and welcomed in for our anniversary dinner. Our server Crystal was A+ top notch, she sat us and greeted us, and took pictures of our decorated table. We sat in the main dining room that was appointed nicely, on the first floor. There are dining rooms on the second floor along with a bar that are beautifully appointed with wine corks on the wall and pleasant decor. The bus boy was very pleasant and dropped us bread with yummy garlic butter, and filled our waters promptly. The oysters were amazing and fresh. We then had French onion soup and she-crab soup. Both were amazing and flavorful. The she crab was very tasty with some lump meat inside but not overpowering with sherry at all, the perfect mix. The next course was a fresh house salad, that had a nice Italian style dressing on it that was also sweet. We were then presented with two large scallops each that seemed pan seared and cooked to perfection and were very tender. All the while Crystal continuously checked on us, wished us a Happy Anniversary and interacted with us about the home, and the ghost stories with the homes history. Once the main course served we were already full, but the food looked delectable and the flavors were amazing. We had filet mignon with a potato style cake underneath and duck confit that not only was crispy but was out of this world exploding in flavor with string beans and fingerling potatoes. Chef Stephen came to our table and introduced himself, and was pleased that we enjoyed our meals. After all this we had to try the chocolate souffle, mind you to be prepared as it takes 30 minutes to house prepare so order it when you order your entree. This was out of this world. We were both so full but could not stop eating this chocolate delight. Living in this area for several years, this has eclipsed all our other dining experiences in the area. Crystal then toured us through the establishment with a world of knowledge. They even hold cooking classes, ghost dinners, and murder mystery show, along with table side cooking. The prices are reasonable for the quality and portions of food you receive. They have several large dining options with 7 course meals but were were far too full just eating off the main menu that was large and full of high end cuisine. I want to thank the entire staff for a job well done, and exceptional dining experience. This place has done it right. Thank you Crystal for making our 10 year anniversary special. We will be back, This is a must do if wanting a fine dining experience. They have an outdoor eating area that seems well enough to equip large parties but inside was very intimate and romantic.More

We had a party of 7 with a reservation for 3pm. They seated us OUTSIDE in the cold but "we could wait 1.5 hrs to be seated inside". And it went downhill from there. It took forever just to get water and they brought out...4 tiny rolls for a table of 7. Long waits between drinks, salad (dry), platters (they came out hot but were ice cold by the time they got passed around the table), apple dessert was undercooked. Worst Thanksgiving experience anywhere, ever. Never again Brentwood.More

Imagine making a reservation for 6:15 (which is pretty early in my book) and to check-in only to find out there is an hour wait for your reservation!! OK, we were relaxed about it and went to their bar for refreshments. Imagine the astonishment when,...45 minutes past our reservation they seated us, HOWEVER, they did not take our drink order, nor was their silverware, napkins or plates on the table. About 20 minutes later a waitress came to ask us what we wanted to drink and have for dessert. It didn't take too long for her to come back with the drinks, however, the cocktail order was wrong and we were told they don't have one of the most common drinks, sweet iced tea. That was quite a shock! At this point it was obvious that they put making money above customer service and quality. We doubly realized this when they brought the food to our table WITHOUT providing plates first so the food sat there getting colder and colder. Once they provided plates we realized the food they brought us had no sweet potato casserole, no dark meat turkey (the favorite all of us (4 people) and we were never offered rolls (as we saw passed out to other tables). Mind you, our reservation was at 6:15. How can they run out of food this early? They didn't even offer a discount for the missing food that was advertised, nor did they care that the food provided was almost inedible due to being so cold. We let our waitress know of our disappointment and she stated "she was so sorry and will tell the manager) . Nothing came of that. All in all it was a very disappointing meal and service. The only thing that is deserving of any praise was our waitress (sorry, can't remember her name but we were at a corner table upstairs) who was courteous, friendly and running around like a chicken with its head cut off due to being so short staffed for the over booked restaurant.More

Went to the Brentwood for Thanksgiving dinner. We have been going for the last three years. tonight was by far the worst experience we have had there. Food was cold, we didn't receive all the food that was on the menu. Plus, we had a...6:15 reservation and were seated at almost 7:00. We were talking with other folks that said they had 4, and 5 PM reservation and didn't get seated until almost 6:30. That said, we will not be going back for Thanksgiving next year.More

ONLY gave a 4-star because they were horribly understaffed for Thanksgiving. Waited for 40 minutes, and then only ONE busby for the entire restaurant, and although we enjoyed the food, it was sad for the waitress. She was horribly overworked, yet gracious. Cranberry sauce needs...a new recipe and the gravy not good, but I must say everything else was spot on! Thanks Brentwood, we loved it!More

While visiting the Myrtle Beach area, we came across this magnificent bistro. Truly miles better than all the typical chain restaurants recommended by the resorts. If you are looking for an interesting menu, beautifully prepared, this is the place to be. We opted for a...table in the upstairs bistro of this historic building and we were delighted by the ambience. Our server, Annette, was awesome and the hostess, Ally, went out of her way to ensure we were happy. The duck confit and the escargots were to die for!More

The quality of the food and service is definitely not the same as it was. This used to be a top notch restaurant. The food was okay, just not of a caliber that you would expect at this price point.
