We are here, wanting a break from seafood on vacation. It was good food, fresh, hot and tasty. We had fajitas, quesadillas and queso.

Met friends here last Sunday and found that they no longer make ceviche tropical because it is too much trouble according to our server. We then ordered the calamari which was very good last visit but now is frozen tubes no longer cut up fresh....The drinks were very poor and we even had tonic water and oj served instead of vodka oj. Our server was rude and the service was poor. We will not be back... ever!More

This is our sixth winter on Kiawah Island and we enjoyed most restaurants that we have visited previously and/or ones new to us. Maria's was recommended by a resident who has provided excellent new dining options for us. Upon entering we got a strange vibe...from whoever it was that showed us to a booth. Menu's flung on the table is exactly how we felt as we were deposited in the booth. Our waiter was a large fellow obviously perspiring with very little English language. Sure it is a Mexican restaurant so Mexican servers are to be expected and add to the feel. Unfortunately for us and this server he did not have enough understanding in his second language to answer questions or to understand our order. Some food was delivered with obvious errors. Other food was not delivered for an additional 15mins. and counting. We did drink on Margrettia and upon the decision to exit we offered payment for the drink. We also asked to speak to the manager and were told he was not in may a fellow with a red streak in his black hair. After a few minutes of waiting to pay we just handed him a $10 and again asked to speak to the manager. This time he was available. The fellow walked away with our 10$ and after 5 mins had not returned with the manager. The $10 payment for a $4+ happy our drink was was gone as were we. Our trusted friend assures us the food is excellent Mexican fare and the rude service was a " one off". Both they and we will happily never cross paths again.More

Below average Mexican food. Tortilla chips were very hard. House wine was poor quality. Service was slow and not enough servers.

Maria's Mexican Grill on Maybank Highway on Johns Island is a great place for Mexican food. I have had a really good meal every time that I have been here. I really like all of the different options they have available and each one has...been tasty and flavorful. They give good size portions and everything is at a good price and value for what you get. The service is very quick, efficient, and friendly as they take care of you very well. Maria's is very consistent in their quality and does a very good job at delivering a good dining experience.More

Not great, not bad. The place was packed but the food was nothing to write home about. Salty and priced a little above average.

Maria's Mexican Grill offers really good Mexican cuisine. I enjoy coming here for some tasty food and good drinks. This place is really well run and the food is prepared nicely and does not take too long to come out to you after you order...it. The service here is fantastic and they make sure that you have all that you need during your meal. This place offers a really laid back and fun dining experience that allows you to relax and have a good time. This place is wonderful.More

These guys have some sort of monopoly on local shrimp - any dish they have with shrimp will for sure be your favorite. I only ever, only ever, order the shrimp dishes. My husband assures me all of their food is great, but their shrimp...is SOOO great, I can't defect. Also, amazing service, amazing prices, and my child who only eats pizza... can get it here!!!!More

Let me start off by saying, my husband & I loved Maria's. Great food, great margaritas, great service. Unfortunately, circumstances have forced me to leave such a negative review and to vow never to return to Maria's. A group of friends went to Maria's for...happy hour. The sign at the front said "$1 off on House Margaritas...$4.00" (plus some other stuff about beer and wine). Perfect! We went to our table &, of course, ordered happy hour house margaritas. After receiving our checks, we noticed we were charged $7 for each margarita. When querying our waiter, he said that the $7 charge was for the large margarita (which he had apparently given us without our knowledge) while $4 only applied to the small margarita. Nowhere on their happy hour sign OR their normal menu was there any mention of a small versus large house margarita. We brought up this discrepancy only to be vehemently rebuffed by our waiter. When we asked to speak to a manager, we were informed that there was no manager on site. We persisted, and finally, a lady who said she was in charge at the time came to our table. We explained the situation, and she and two other waiters proceeded to argue (yes, full on argue) with us for a solid 5 minutes insisting that it was our fault for not asking for a small versus a large margarita (we had no idea there were both small and large sizes as this was nowhere mentioned) before finally giving in and giving us the happy hour house margarita price of $4 as advertised. I am deeply saddened to have to leave this review and to not return to Maria's, but we cannot support such blatant dishonesty and a very obvious attempt to upsell us without our knowledge.More

Was curious what Mexican food would be like in South Carolina... turns out it was pretty much like everywhere else. Steak fajitas were good, but nothing remarkable. Portions were large. Staff was friendly enough. Place has an unpretentious family vibe. Yes, I'd go there again,...but probably would seek out some regional fare first.More
