Although we have had take out on two previous occasions, we decided to eat inside on this occasion. Everything that we ordered, the margaritas, cheese and guacamole appetizers, and our main dishes were delicious. Since my previous orders were enchiladas, on this occasion, I ordered the shrimp and scallop fajitas, and this was as good, or better, than I have had in the past at other Mexican restaurants. Our server, whose name I can’t remember, and can’t look up since I opted for no receipt, was excellent and catered to all the requests from the four of us. All in all, a superb dinner experience.

Three of us enjoyed an excellent meal, with very tasty Margaritas, and excellent service from Orlando. Although we had previously ordered enchiladas, my son recommended the Carne Asada, which my wife and I ordered. My son ordered the Quesabirria. Everything was delicious, including the guacamole dip. There is a wide selection of Margaritas. Two of us had the blue agave, and one had the pomegranate, all great choices.

During one of our recent stays at our new house, where we plan to move permanently later this year, my wife and I wanted take out, and since our house is only just over 5 minutes from Maria’s, we decided to order takeout from there. Our order was ready when we arrived at the scheduled pickup time, and everything was delicious. We shared a large guacamole, had a variety of enchiladas (2 for my wife, 3 for me), and later on each had a superb tasting flan.

This is our sixth winter on Kiawah Island and we enjoyed most restaurants that we have visited previously and/or ones new to us. Maria's was recommended by a resident who has provided excellent new dining options for us. Upon entering we got a strange vibe from whoever it was that showed us to a booth. Menu's flung on the table is exactly how we felt as we were deposited in the booth. Our waiter was a large fellow obviously perspiring with very little English language. Sure it is a Mexican restaurant so Mexican servers are to be expected and add to the feel. Unfortunately for us and this server he did not have enough understanding in his second language to answer questions or to understand our order. Some food was delivered with obvious errors. Other food was not delivered for an additional 15mins. and counting. We did drink on Margrettia and upon the decision to exit we offered payment for the drink. We also asked to speak to the manager and were told he was not in may a fellow with a red streak in his black hair. After a few minutes of waiting to pay we just handed him a $10 and again asked to speak to the manager. This time he was available. The fellow walked away with our 10$ and after 5 mins had not returned with the manager. The $10 payment for a $4+ happy our drink was was gone as were we. Our trusted friend assures us the food is excellent Mexican fare and the rude service was a " one off". Both they and we will happily never cross paths again.

Met friends here last Sunday and found that they no longer make ceviche tropical because it is too much trouble according to our server. We then ordered the calamari which was very good last visit but now is frozen tubes no longer cut up fresh. The drinks were very poor and we even had tonic water and oj served instead of vodka oj. Our server was rude and the service was poor. We will not be back... ever!

Poor service. Short staffed the night we were there (no bartenders) so waiter had to make drinks. I was the last of the four of us to get my drink (45 minutes later). Food took a long time, too, and didn’t get order right. The shredded beef was way too salty. Best part was the chips and salsa. Maybe they were just having a bad night. I believe in second chances, so might give them another chance, but this wouldn’t be my go to place for Mexican. Plenty of other Mexican restaurants that are better.

Horrible carry out experience!!! Very expensive and completely not work it. Not only are the portions ridiculously skimpy, but the food was cold and tasted bad. See the enclosed pictures. That container of guacamole cost $6.50, see the key for scale. I could buy a whole bag of organic avocados for less. The cheese dip (same size) $5.25 and completely emptied in the bag upon receipt. One partial bag of chips for both dips. That was the bag immediately after opening without a single chip removed. Guacamole was brown -see picture after we took of the lid and the side of the container. The tacos were virtually absent of meat and keep in mind that tomato and lettuce cost 75 cents each to add. CRAZY

We have eaten here several times, and have always found the food and service to be excellent. On this occasion, I had the Enchiladas Rancheras, which were all delicious. The only reason that on this occasion with 6 adults and 3 children, my rating was only 4 stars, was that my oldest grandson ordered beef tacos, and the beef was missing.

Queso with chorizo is a great starter. Maria's Chicken Special is delicious. Chicken breast, grilled zucchini, broccoli, and carrots, with a light cheese sauce. Comes with rice and beans. That is a big plate of food. If you order take out, there is an option for extra veggies. My husband got the Chicken tortilla soup and a cheese quesadilla. Such a big bowl of soup, he said it was wonderful. Maria's is our once a week go to restaurant.

Ordered a small cheese dip to go for more than $5. Was given what is pictured in this review. Went back in to confirm they were charging over $5 for this amount of cheese dip. Yep. Ridiculous.

Found this to be very average in terms of its food. Not spicy at all. Service was good. Outdoor seating was nice. Convenient if going to the Angel Oak.

Below average Mexican food. Tortilla chips were very hard. House wine was poor quality. Service was slow and not enough servers.

Maria's Mexican Grill on Maybank Highway on Johns Island is a great place for Mexican food. I have had a really good meal every time that I have been here. I really like all of the different options they have available and each one has been tasty and flavorful. They give good size portions and everything is at a good price and value for what you get. The service is very quick, efficient, and friendly as they take care of you very well. Maria's is very consistent in their quality and does a very good job at delivering a good dining experience.
