I loved my visit to the Fat Hen on John's Island! I had the escargot for the appetizer which was great! I've also had the stone crabs which were excellent. For the entree I had the steak and salmon and both were excellent. The service is always top notch! The dessert options are always great! I had the cheesecake.

Low country French is so appropriate! Wonderful low country dishes with a classy French finesse! Best REAL bread served ! Great friendly service, well trained staff. The cooks must be praised for their creativity. Certainly planning to go back many more times!

Have been to Fat Hen 3 or 4 times in almost as many years, most recently for brunch in order to switch gears and move away from dinner which has been our normal routine. Service is always excellent - from the moment we walk in to the moment we walk out the door, everyone is great and service staff knowledge... More

I was recently asked to join some friends for dinner at the Fat Hen Restaurant. This was my first time there and had heard good things about the place. We arrived early and sat at the bar for drinks while we waited for our table. The bar was very comfortable and the bartenders were very friendly and accommodating. When we... More

This restaurant requires reservations because it is soo good that it is a really busy place. Everything is outstanding. I had a quiche that was perfection. Even the salads are beyond ordinary. The soup offerings were avocado and french onion which were delicious. You can not lose on this restaurant. When there is such a high demand to eat there,... More

We decided to try The Fat Hen for brunch after church on Sunday. First of all, it was very busy. Reservations are highly recommended. As usual for Fat Hen, the food was great. The service seemed to suffer somewhat due to the crowd. Getting refills on drinks was slower than normal.

We ate here on a recent trip to Kiawah on the recommendation of several folks in the course I was taking. This is a high end restaurant with French/low country cuisine. Reservations were hard to come by. we weren't disappointed, the food was great and the portions generous. Highly recommend if you're in the area

It is best to get reservations during popular days/times. Service was great. We had fried green tomatoes (with pimento cheese and a pepper relish), crab cakes, shrimp & grits, and the fish of the day - tile fish. Everything tasted great. Will definitely return.

Description
Chef Fred Neuville is excited to embark on his first solo venture. "With Fat Hen, I am striving to create a neighborhood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and signature French-inspired Southern cuisine," he says. "Johns Island is a fast-growing area and I believe island residents - along with others from around Charleston - will appreciate what we have to offer." Fat Hen's main dishes center around innovative French classics with Low country flourishes, sourced from the finest local produce farmers. The Braised Chicken features locally raised free-range chicken braised in red wine with rich bacon lardons, root vegetables & mushrooms. Fat Hen's Short Rib, a favorite signature dish among family and friends, is braised for hours in a rich veal broth.
