We live on IOP and a friend recently told us that this place was much improved under the new management, so we decided to give it a try. It took forever just to get a drink order in because our server had four new tables sit all at once (not her fault, the hostess did this). The food was just okay. The salmon on my salmon salad was slightly overcooked and SUPER salty and the bleu cheese dressing hardly had any bleu cheese in it. The baja tacos were not bad, but could have used a little more of something. The fried shrimp were good. You can never go wrong with fried shrimp. The margarita we ordered came with sugar on the rim, not salt. When I took it to the bartender to ask for it to be corrected, he said our server, Ashante, told him we requested sugar, which was absolutely not true. I asked again for it to be fixed and he insisted that many people ask for it that way, which I have never heard of, and neither has my husband (who bartended for years). Our server also insisted that most people order sugar on their margaritas. I would have been satisfied with a brief apology and just fixing it, but she kept going on about it. The service definitely declined after that. Also, our server had her mask either under her nose or on her chin the whole time she was at or near our table. If you're going to bother with a mask you should at least wear it properly.
It seems this place will continue to be a tourist place instead of a locals place, where the quality doesn't matter much because people won't be back anyway. I definitely regret bringing my mother here for her 70th birthday dinner. We should have waited the 45 minute wait time for a table at Acme, as we had planned. If you want excellent service and food cooked to perfection, go to Long Island Cafe or Acme Lowcountry Kitchen and skip this place. The view here is excellent and the beers were cold, so maybe just come enjoy a pre-dinner drink and the view before dinner somewhere else.

We put our name down for a two hour wait for Coconut Joe's, which was expected and we were going to walk around, have a few drinks. We did that and the time passed fast. Coconut Joe's called and we went into the restaurant and the waitress sat us down to a table that was wet with standing water on it from the wet rag she just wiped over it. The waitress plopped our silverware down into the wet table top and we asked for it to be dried off. The waitress brought us a handful of napkins so we could dry it off ourselves. We did that and then asked for silverware wrapped in a dry napkin. The staff must not be trained in customer service as there is no way this could be construed as acceptable in the free world. The food is okay here and not worth a long wait, but if you are going to be in the area anyway, they will call you as you walk around looking so any wait is not a big deal. The big deal is that Coconut Joe's has a real problem with service when they are crowded which is all the time in the summer. My recommendation is to go in off times or maybe in the fall or spring and avoid it in the summer. If you want really good food, go elsewhere as it is normal food fare.

I was disappointed that the Po Boy I ordered was $14 but I only received half of a small sub roll and a handful of french fries. I left hungry. The little bit of shrimp I did get on my roll was tasty. My husband however got a huge burger and he loved it. The atmosphere was a bit chaotic and the server seemed unsure of themselves (but they were very nice).

Not sure if this place is short staffed or what but it took 45 mins to get our food after a 45 min wait. The wait we were accurately quoted so that was fine, but there must have been one dude in the kitchen because our 2 fried sandwiches took forever. Wish we would have been told the kitchen was so backed up, we missed plans we had afterwards. Food was fine, sandwich came out with no condiments or sauce and took a while to flag down a server. Fries were good. Pina colada was delicious. The service was fine, they were just a bunch of overworked kids it looked like. The bar area had piles of empty drinks and a film of stickyness everywhere, your typical grungy beach bar.
The owner might need to pony up more money for some more staff so this place runs smoother. I bet it’s the kind of restaurant that makes their servers do all the cleaning because theyre too cheap to hire support staff.
We ordered a lemonade, pina colada, fried fish sandwich and crab cake sandwich with fries and our total was almost $60. So overpriced for the wait and quality of food.

We were seated on the roof top deck -Loved the view and listening to the waves along with live music, great food and great service! We started out with the crab dip - this is a MUST!
We shared the crab cakes with fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese grits, coconut bites and coconut shrimp. I liked the peppery cream sauce the crab cakes were served with but tried the mango habanero sauce and that was my favorite. Ordered a Painkiller it was very good also.
We did NOT leave hungry.
Coconut Joe's was recommended by a family member as a MUST GO!
I text her immediately- letting her know we were not disappointed at all!

Ugh. I hate going to a restaurant in an era where businesses are struggling to find quality employees. This establishment takes it to a whole new level.
When our party of four arrived, we were told that it would be a 55 minute wait. Not a problem, because it seemed to have a fun vibe, and there were a lot of customers waiting to be served. WRONG! It ended up being over two hours, and when we finally met with a server, we were told it would be another 45 minutes before we might see food.
Not one human in this restaurant seems happy to be here, and if the food is good, I will be surprised. Still waiting two and a half hours later. Have not seen our server since she brought our drinks thirty minutes ago...

Ate here recently while visiting my parents on the island. We loved watching the sunset and the happy hour drinks were yummy! My husband enjoyed his gumbolya and my crab dip was yummy to. They do serve the dip with corn chips but I think it would be better served with crackers. Service was very good. Our waiter was very attentive even though they were very busy. Overall we will be back!

This dining experience was our most expensive meal of our trip and our most forgettable. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't worth the price.
Pros: We were walking on the beach, we spotted the restaurant and we were seated in about 20 minutes on a Tuesday night (which could have taken a LOT longer if another staff member hadn't walked up and asked if we'd been helped...they texted us our table was ready, but we didn't get it and no one cared to verbally tell us even though we were the only ones waiting in front of the hostess stand.). We got great ocean views as we waited for the food at our table.
Cons: The weather got chilly fast and the kids got anxious waiting. The food wasn't awesome and it was pricey.
I got the fish tacos. They were okay. My daughter had a kids shrimp plate and the fries definitely tasted like they were from a bag of frozen fries. Not horrible, just not worth what we spent.

I was happy to find this place in the shade overlooking the beach on an unbearably hot day. Drinks flowed easily but what most impressed me was the wasabi marmalade sauce for the coconut shrimp and the cheesy grits with the blackened grouper. The decor is not spectacular so the food quality really surprised me. We really enjoyed this great place on the beach.

The server was a nice kid and tried to help as much as he could, but the wait was pretty long for what we ordered and how many patrons were on the upper level. Food was ok, but a little cold and the tomatillo salsa wouldn’t have been my first choice to put on the menu with that kind of food. A little pricey also for a mahi-mahi fillet with fries and two tacos with a few pieces of mahi in them. I probably wouldn’t go again, because we don’t drink.

The deep fried menu here is just that. FRIED FOOD. Which comes to the table greasy, soggy and tasteless. The fries taste like fish. The fish taste like French fries. The coleslaw is dripping...
I am a local... so I guess that this beach front tourist trap will continue to rip off our Island Guests.

One of our managers is ALWAYS on the floor to help our guests and solve problems as they arise. If given the chance, we will fix whatever problem you may have while you are still in the restaurant. For 23 years we have worked hard to make our guests feel happy and satisfied. Sometimes we fall short. For that I apologize. I think it is sad and criminal that you are able to write a scathing "op-ed" behind an anonymous profile.

The food is classic coastal beach grill faire—what sets this place apart is the good service and the sound of the waves!! We went on a Monday for lunch. We sat outside on the porch. We enjoyed the Coconut Shrimp appetizer (served hot and cooked to golden) and the fish tacos. The beer was cold and my soft drink had plenty of ice. Service by Trey was excellent, friendly and intuitive. The food was good but I really went for the waves. The porch is comfortable for dining within earshot and eyesight of the waves—just a few steps off the sand. We noticed that when it started to drizzle a tiny bit, the staff quickly lowered the clear shades so patrons seated on the porch would get wet. 🏆 We enjoyed this quiet casual and affordable Monday lunch at the beach. Thanks Trey and Coconut Joe’s! 🏆🏆🏆 (Protocols observed by staff and patrons.)

My husband and I were on IOP for a long weekend. We visited coconut joes twice to eat and once for cocktails. Once for lunch and once we had brunch (Sunday). Service, food, and drinks were 10/10. Definitely a great spot for oceanfront, casual dining. We had the island tacos, crab stack, breakfast nachos, chicken and jalapeño cornbread waffles and the crab dip is on point. It was all delish!

Possibly the only good thing to say about this restaurant is that it was within walking distance of our accommodations. There was a sign on the table to scan a QR code for the menu as no paper copies were available. We later observed that people who came in to order takeout were handed a menu. The service here is dreadful: We waited 45 mins. for our food and we were the only patrons in the dining room. Mediocre food at best. Our server never came to check on us or to see if we needed or wanted anything else. Because the room was freezing cold, I waited outside for my husband to find someone to give him a bill. It took 15 mins. to accomplish that. Everyone on the staff with whom we interacted was rude.

If there was a way to give this place a zero that’s what it would get. We walked in with a party of 7 and waited about 20 mins to be seated. Hostess was nice. Got our appetizer of fried pickles within about 20 mins. About 45 mins in the server said we should get our food soon. About a hour in she said the appetizer was free because the kitchen has been slow. About a hour and 20 a in I asked to speak with a manager. No one ever showed up. An hour and 45 mins in we walked out with no food and still starving. People all around us got food while we continued to sit with nothing. After a long ride down and starving it was a mistake trying this place. Never again.
