Good food, cleanliness not so much.

We popped in for breakfast around 11 and there was a half hour wait, which is usually a good sign. They had the tables spaced apart nicely and just about every other booth was blocked off to maintain social distancing. The food was really good and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, when our server brought the cup of hot water for my tea, the inside of the cup was dirty with coffee residue that I could wipe off onto my finger. It obviously had not been cleaned properly, which someone should have noticed before serving it. I asked for a clean cup of hot water and was given one. I ordered the "Big Breakfast" which was terriffic, but the side order of toast I ordered had a long hair sitting on top of it. I let it go and just didn't eat the top two pieces of toast. I understand that they were extremely busy, but especially during this pandemic, extra care should be taken to maintain good sanitation. If not for the two issues I mentioned, this would have been a five star review.

We've been coming to HHI for over 20 years but never eaten at this long established facility. Because there are so many good restaurants on the island, any that are NG close very quickly. And because this one has been here longer than we have been coming, it must be good, and I don't doubt it for some things, but stay away from their "comfort food" turkey platter. It arrived with a mysterious looking yellow creamy gravy, the likes of which I have never seen. It also didn't have much flavor as did the rest of the meal. The turkey, however, was tender & there was plenty of it along with the boxed mashed potatoes & stuffing leaving a lump in my stomach. Many restaurants provide little mints after the meal. This time they should have passed out Tums, but they didn't, so bring your own.

Cold hash browns, under cooked eggs

We stop for breakfast this morning as we drove by this restaurant. It looks just like a regular diner from up north. According to the menu, they are originally from Rhode Island. Times very excited to order eggs Benedict over crab cakes and home fries. The home fries were cold from the star and the eggs Benedict were over cooked. The server never came by to check on our meal. I gave the gentleman at the cash register the feedback about the poor food common he said I should have asked for a new meal. If I had done that, I would have sat and watched my friend eat while I waited for new food. Clearly, this place is very popular as it was very busy and a line outside the door. I guess I just got a bad meal

I frequently visit Hilton head Island for my family vacations. During my last visit over the Valentine's holiday, we decided to visit this restaurant. We sat at the counter for a take out order and was waited on by a Asian looking employee. The service was horrible and her attitude was just as bad. She could have been one of the owners. We felt like we were not welcomed in the restaurant and it took forever to get our take out order which was very simple. There were other customers who sat at the counter after us who received their food well before us. I had to ask our waitress to please check on the order and she displayed an negative attitude. When our food finally came, I asked our server to allow me look at the order to ensure it was correct and she really showed displeasure. We were leaving the Island as our vacation was over and I wanted to ensure it was correct because we would not be coming back. The waitress threw our utensils in the bag with force and seemed very agitated by a simple request. I will never go back to this restaurant again. Not welcoming at all. Not a representation of a vacation restaurant who welcomes all people.

Excellent service and good food - good experience

We enjoyed our recent breakfast at Hilton Head Diner. We entered the restaurant and were immediately greeted. We were escorted to our table and given menus. We did wait a little but finally our server Sherry came over to welcome us. Although busy she was very good throughout the experience. She inquired about beverages and after serving them took our orders. Coffee (1.99) a cup is a full bodied nice cup of joe. Small juice is 2.99 (1.00 extra for the large size) I ordered a Western Omelet ($9.98) and my guest ordered a tall stack with chocolate chips ($7.99), another guest ordered Biscuits and Gravy ($8.99) while my wife had 2 eggs and bacon ($8.99) Food was served quickly and was delicious. Prepared as requested and served at proper temperature. Good portions, we loved the home fries as well as the pancakes. Sherry was very busy on her station and had 3 large parties but she handled it with ease and kept our water glasses and coffee cups full. She did an awesome job with service and was very hospitable. It is great to find someone who truly shows a passion for her job and does it well. A good breakfast experience. Prices make a good value. We recommend getting to the restaurant by 8 to insure immediate seating. As we departed they had a long line of guest waiting for tables. Servers wore masks and gloves. Tables were sat to insure 50% seating and some social distancing. We recommend Hilton Head Diner for breakfast. Ownership should commend Sherry for her excellent service.

Disappointing Breakfast.

The service was good, the coffee was good and the fruit was good, but the rest of our breakfast was not good. I ordered an omelet, it was flatter than a pancake and overcooked. The white bread that was included with my meal was the cheapest sandwich bread you would buy at a grocery store. My husband had eggs Benedict and it was very average to below average. The potatoes that came with the meal had no flavor. So overall, even though they have a robust business, I would not recommend this restaurant for breakfast

Nice Diner Experience on Hilton Head

Hit it on Saturday on our way home from Hilton Head, so had the expected wait. We were told about 25 minutes but our fairly large group got seated in about 10. Nice selection for breakfast. Three of our party had the eggs benedict and two of us had the big breakfast (pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon and hashbrowns). Everything was cook nicely and the ladies enjoyed the egg benedict.

We were headed out on Tuesday morning to Sun Rise Cafe about which we’ve heard so much…to find out they are closed Monday and Tuesday! We decided to try the diner, and what a treat! The view can’t compete, but the decor is charming and the food is outstanding! I had the deluxe bagel platter, and there was so much smoked salmon, I had to buy bagels and cream cheese at the store to use it up the next day! Add to that arugula, cucumber slices, kalamata olives, fresh tomatoes, capers, and a balsamic to drizzle on, I was in heaven! Hubby’s French toast breakfast was another winner. While I can’t say the server was warm or welcoming, she was super efficient. I would definitely return.

Went here for lunch with the family. We ordered burgers, chicken tenders and eggs. The chicken tenders were especially awesome, fries perfect, the burgers were big and juicy and the eggs were cooked well. The service was very good too. We enjoyed the ambiance (oldies music, diner decor). Would definitely return!

This is a cute diner with a nice variety of food offered. Our table had fried shrimp, stuffed French toast, breakfast (eggs/bacon) and waffles. All dishes were very tasty, portions were big. Service was friendly and efficient. The price was pretty good, which is nice to find at the beach.

My wife and I have tried out many restaurants over the past several weeks located on Hilton Head, island. We visited the Diner restaurant and the welcome from the manager at the entry was cold at most. he seemed bothered to seat us. However, the waitress seemed friendly. The food was very disappointing and when I tried to use a gift debit card at the counter, the manager told us that they do not take those. I then asked about a coupon I had for a percentage off and he laughed and said he dod not take those either. I paid in cash and left very disappointed in this experience.

Waited about 15 mins for a table. Service was good, foods I think could have been a little better, but I think at most Diner's you get the same kinds of foods. Could be good, Could be bad? Hit or miss. My husband and I both had the bananas foster, it was okay, the bananas had been cooked? Tasted off. French Toast itself tasted pretty good. Our daughter had the kids mac n' cheese and honestly it was toooo cheesy! So, she shared some of my french toast with me. I think when we go back to HHI we'd probably pass this place up and not go back as we found much better Breakfast/Brunch places near by. Our experience tho.

Eggs Benidict is done just right.

The eggs benidict come in a oblong bowl with the hashbrowns on the plate nearby. This is ideal if you want to slowly mix the hashbrown in with egg yokes. Very good and the price was a good value for the food.

We ate here twice for breakfast and both times were great! The coffee is scorching hot, just like it should be. Pancakes were fluffy and delicious. The hash brown were some of the best I’ve had. Great service! Will return when we’re in town again.

Worth the trip

I hadn’t been to HH Diner in years—there are lots of great breakfast places on Hilton Head, and this one is often very busy. We went there one Monday morning and had an excellent breakfast, Challah French toast was perfectly prepared and a huge portion, Corned beef has was also terrfic and ample. Eggs were good to perfection!
