I would not have known about this restaurant except for the Facebook group “Hilton Head Foodies.” We made reservations for an outdoor table because I was craving sauerbraten. There were so many other choices but I was determined to get sauerbraten. It as a good...choice. My husband had the special halibut with a potato crust and crab meat. It was excellent. This place is hard to find but so worth the effort. The drinks were a generous pour. Our waiter, William, was helpful but unobtrusive. This definitely is a keeper on our Hilton Head list.More

Wherever we travel, we always look for German Cuisine. We were so happy to find Alfred’s Restaurant. After reading the excellent reviews, we decided to give it a try. My Mother is German, and makes the best Rouladen . I must say, the Chef did...an excellent job of coming a close second!! 😁. His Sauerbraten was fantastic! The icing on the cake were the delectable desserts. Thank you for a wonderful evening! We will be back!More

Hubby had a real chop and I had filet. I could not believe how exceptional it was. Every bite just tasted better. Wonderful welcoming environment. I would give them a 12 out of 10!

We went back since we liked it last year and were very pleasantly surprised to find it is even better! We ordered escargot which were outstanding! We had a beat salad shared which was very tasty. Both of us had a veal chop with spinach...and spaechle -very good! The restaurant is small and has outdoor seating as well. The service and staff are very positive. We did not have dessert, although many choices, because we were really full! Certainly recommend a visit.More

This was our first visit to this restaurant. The hostess was friendly and nice. I ordered the foie gras for an appetizer. I am a foie gras fan and have sampled this delicacy several times. Foie gras is already a rich and heavily fatty dish....This presentation included a slice of crust French bread soaking in truffle oil which also spread around the small platter. I think that the chef tried too hard with this prep and over did the oil. It was sooo rich with fat that that weird coating feeling sticks in your throat. I also believe that the foie gras was not grilled completely. I like my foie gras slightly browned on each side. I then had a schnitzel dinner because I’m also a fan of good German food which I was brought up on. The schnitzel was very average. The fried breading was boring. The topping of egg and anchovies just didn’t come together well for a flavorful experience. I just didn’t enjoy myself as much as I thought I would.More

Every once in a while we go to a new restaurant and forces combine to make it an absolute stand=out. Alfred's is one of those experiences. We are 'Foodies' for sure...we love food, we enjoy a good atmosphere and great service and Alfred's had all...three. Tonight it was raining so outside seating was closed; Reservations are accepted to this small intimate setting- it is charming- very Charleston-ish. Our waiter was fabulous; knew the food and his job- very personable. Now the menu has a wonderful blend of Seafood, American and German/French food. 100% there is a chef here.... We had the German potato pancakes and foie gras with blueberry compote as appetizers, parmesan encrusted haddock, topped with crab and sauerbraten- end that with Black Forest Cake made by the French Bakery (if you are not going to make it yourself- get it made here!!) Guy Fieri needs to visit here- but then none of us would get it again!!More

My wife and I arrived at Alfred's for dinner on a Friday night in early June....just as the cloudburst began. While we had reservations for an indoors table, the staff hurriedly had to accommodate arriving guests, and those quests with outside seating. They did a...fine job with this task, with all tables being used, as well as most seats at the bar. We began with tasty cocktails of Old Fashioned and Vodka Gimlet. The bartender was spot on in these classic favorites. We enjoyed the beverages while sharing a good-sized appetizer of potato pancakes, followed by salads: Caesar, as well as Roasted Beets. My wife opted for the Sauerbraten, and received a huge piece of slow-cooked marinated short rib, over spaetzle, along with red cabbage. I selected the Veal Chasseur (a.k.a. Jagerschnitzel) with fork tender veal, surrounded by mushrooms and petite tomatoes, in a tasty tarragon white wine reduction and veal demi glace., over spaetzle. It was superb, and thoroughly enjoyed! We shared desert of Black Forest cake...large, moist, and tasty. Atmosphere was cozy (partly due to the weather), and server Will was friendly, helpful, and timely. Value was quite good, in view of quality and quantity. We ended our visit with a solid "Thank you" to the chef and staff.More

Visited Alfreds on 7/23/21 with a party of 4. Dined outside which was very comfortable. Our waiter, Josh (?), was terrific. One of our friends lived in Germany several years and was very excited when the food proved to be excellent and authentic. 3 of...the 4 of us had Weiner schnitzel and the other pork schnitzel. I had my first Weiner schnitzel in Vienna and this compared favorably. We all loved the potato pancakes and red cabbage (I got some extra cabbage). Our friends loved their spaetzel. We all had apple streudel with vanilla ice cream for dessert, also yummy. My husband enjoyed his German beer and the 2 ladies enjoyed a very nice Spanish white wine recommended by the waiter. We be going back to HH again soon and will definitely go back to Alfreds. AWESOME EXPERIENCE.More

Returned to another fantastic meal at Alfred's. Love the veal and French Onion soup. My wife's Halibut was another hit. Chef's Heath and Jorge put a lot of love and effort to make our night special. A must on your visit to Hilton Head! Our...server Ann (Heath's wife) was a delight.More
