Quality Mexican to-go

We were passing through NW Columbia on our way out of the Lake Murray area and were happy to find Real Mexico. My wife enjoyed her burrito and I loved the grilled chicken with pineapple/avocado salsa. Good lunch specials for the quality. Our daughter enjoyed her quesadilla, and she can be picky at times. Food was ready right when the promised. As many have said, tiny parking lot. They may need a better piece of land to match their popularity. Great family visit!

Mexican delight

I shared the fajitas for two. We had the chicken fajitas the meat was delicious the portion could have been bigger but the toppings that it came with came with were plenty. One of our family members had the shrimp tacos. From what they told me the food was delicious but also the portion could have been bigger. The parking lot is small so also it is hard to park there especially on the weekends. The complimentary chips were delicious and the homemade salsa that we had in the green bottle and the red one were outstanding. The restaurant also gets crowded and since it is not a very large place it is best to get there early enough to make sure you get seat but they also do have seating outside if you prefer. The decorations in the restaurant will also very nice overall we were very satisfied with this place and definitely will return

Great Birria Burrito

This was my first time trying a Birria Burrito and was I surprised! Real Mexico fixed a burrito with slow cooked pot roast and put beans, rice, cheese, cilantro and other veggies with it!! Excellent flavor but didn’t cut in half easily as shown by picture. The guacamole grande was very good also with the combination of taquitos and cheese quesadillas. Hard to park here but great food.

Excellent menu... Experience meh

This restaurant is hit and miss. The menu offerings are traditional and varied, many items you can't find other places. Tonight we had a party of 6, 3 had great meals, 3 didn't. My taco salad had very little meat or beans, no cheese, and a bagged iceberg lettuce mix for the salad, with a modest dollop of sour cream. It had almost no flavor. I would encourage you to visit when they are slow, not during the dinner rush as the service was obligatory at best. I have been other times when both the service and food was better, but the hype is a little overrated.

Great Mexican Food

This is my favorite Mexican food in Columbia. I ordered, curbside, a fantastic order of Shrimp Tacos on flour tortillas, rather than corn, and extra pico de gallo. They are so good!!! Naturally I added their homemade green hot sauce, not extremely hot, to round out a fantastic taco. Love this hole in the wall !!!!

Fantastic Mexican Food

Another great meal at one of my top ten restaurants. No white tablecloths here but just good food. I had the Molcajete that was “muy rico”!!! It was steak, cactus, chicken, cheese, onions and chorizo cooked in volcanic rock $$&@@&! Part of my family had the chicken soup that they said was excellent. This is the best “hole in the wall” Mexican food around. BTW, it was during a tremendous thunderstorm so it had to be good.

Great Authentic Mexican!

Hands down, this restaurant has the most amazing food! I've been here twice for lunch (so far); their portion sizes are huge and the flavor is spot on. My last visit, I ordered the Grande Fajita Quesadilla with steak for my meat. I was so impressed! If you go to dine in during the lunch hours, be prepared for it to be packed, but don't lose hope because they'll get you seated quickly. During the shutdown this past month and a half, they ran curbside service and did an excellent job! You will not be disappointed with their food or service.

good food and quick service

We were traveling and stopped at a nearby hotel. We were looking for a local restaurant rather than a chain and came upon their website. We ordered a pickup order consisting of guacamole, Shrimp tacos and a taco salad with chicken. The portion of guacamole was the largest I have ever gotten from a Mexican restaurant and it was also one of the best. The shrimp tacos and the taco salad were nicely spiced, very fresh and delicious. We will return to this restaurant any time we are in the area. The people were very friendly on the phone and friendlier in person when I went to pick up our order.

It’s average Mexican fare, some good some not

The place was very busy but they moved tables quickly. Food doesn’t take long. It’s okay Mexican food, not really worth the rating as high as it is. The shrimp tacos were very good. The carne asada was not so good, very dry and chewy. The chimichanga was soggy, not crispy at all. Maybe they made it to quickly and it sat. The soup was huge and pretty good. Overall we would probably go here again. We would avoid the carne asada.

A cut above the regular American Mexican fare.

My husband and I ate here by default on a Sunday night as most everything was closed. We were warned that it fills up fast and that the parking is difficult so we got there around 5 and the only available tables were outside. The outside dining was under cover but was still hot and lots of flies…not the restaurant’s fault. We both ordered quesadillas…my husband got the bacon and mushroom and I got the corn and zucchini quesadillas. They were wonderful! The chips were warm and the salsa was tasty but not too hot. I had a real margarita which was good…just not enough lime flavor for me. All in all, a Mexican restaurant with a real Mexican atmosphere and not just the typical (American) Mexican fare.

Mediocre at best

This place was recommended by several locals in the area. We love Mexican food so we were pumped to go here. Atmosphere is ok, typical local authentic Mexican restaurant. Chips and salsa are OK, nothing spectacular, I actually first thought the salsa was from a bottle. It wasn't, but shouldn't have to ask. We ordered Fajitas, tamale, and the kids had a taco and chicken fingers. The chicken fingers looked gross,, like they were old.. Fajitas were underseasoned and the steak and chicken were not what we are use to. The steak was not high quality steak and the chicken was also not high quality. We are use to strip of actual steak and chicken breast. This was not that, far from it. Prices are good, drinks are cheap, but would not go again if we were ever in the area again. We are from south florida so we are use to high quality Mexican food, maybe this is great Mexican food for the area, but wouldn't be back home. The food is very affordable and was ok, not horrible so if your looking for an ok affordable place this is good. Maybe we just had our expectations too high when everyone said it was the best Mexican they had ever had.

Fantastic Shrimp Tacos

Another lunch winner with extremely good shrimp tacos from Real Mexico. This is one of favorites in Columbia. You either get 3 flour tortillas or 5 smaller corn tortillas. Unless you hate shrimp, you’ll love them. BTW I always add pico de gallo to top them.

Best Mexican dessert!

It’s the kind of authentic hole in the wall my family always enjoys and it didn’t disappoint. We ordered guacamole, fajitas, Mexican salad, kid tacos, and a beef burrito. The guacamole was fresh but not the best I’ve had. The meals were tasty but typical of other Mexican places. What really set this one part was the dessert. We had fried ice cream and a churro. Both absolutely delicious! Make sure you save room for dessert!

Excellent margaritas and outstanding food!

Patron margaritas on the rocks were excellent, they seemed to be from scratch instead of a mix like many Mexican restaurants have started doing. Grande Guacamole appetizer was wonderful; probably one of the best guacamole I've had, served with cheese quesadillas and chicken taquitos. Shrimp avocado salad was awesome. El Pollo Loco with chicken and shrimp as well as the Seafood Fiesta with salmon, shrimp and scallops were phenomenal. Chicken and steak fajitas were great. There is outdoor dining and everyone was wearing masks.

Poor Service and terrible Margaritas

Bought a Margarita took a sip and it was the worst margarita I have ever had, they refused to reimburse me. The server wouldn't even take it off the table and was rude.he pointed to a sign saying all alcohol sales are final. We didn't even stay for dinner, going to Oaxaca Mexican Restaurant where the Margaritas are great and the food is better. This was our second time here and will be our last.
