Good place for lunch and beers-food was average. Good place for food and beers with friends-not ideal for families

Very good beer and salad. The gyros was fine. I really enjoyed the ESB, although the pale ale was close in quality.

Had dinner the other night with some colleagues. The hotel recommended this restaurant and sang the praises of the Shrimp and Grits. On their recommendation, cancelled out reservation at another place and went here and everyone ordered the S&G. Good but not great.

I went to "HG" on Monday with friends after work and had a great pale ale, a fresh locally sourced meal, and laughter and lies within the open two story brewery-pub. This is my favorite Columbia watering hole and restaurant...bar none.

We loved this place. The beer was great. We tried the wheat, porter, pale ale and ESB. Loved them all. The food was really tasty. We had the black bean dip. Tried two of their pizzas, a gyro and both desserts. Everything was awesome. Wish...More

Cool space in Columbia downtown, with big tanks behind the ample bar. Nice selection of beers, porter was my favorite. Easy drinking styles, maybe not for hopheads. Food was amazing, duck and mussels big winners. Good friendly service. Excellent value.

After hearing about HG and all the raves my friends give it....we finally made it there last night. Let me say, it does not disappoint. I loved everything about the place. It has a very warm, welcoming thing going on. We sat at the bar,...More

I guess I'm stupid but I just presumed that all bars/breweries had televisions. Hope you brought a book/friend/cellphone. Food was amazing. Even the salad was incredible. -1 star for no tv's.

I'm a huge fan of breweries serving beer. This place has great porter and amazing shrimp and grits! Service around 6pm on a Wednesday night was fabulous. Worth every penny to get some UNFRIED southern food.

Sorry for the slow and partially helpful response. For us a large group is 8-12, most often we can seat 8-12 people in a reasonable amount of time. A group of more than 12 would have to find separate tables. We don't take... More

Description
Hunter-Gatherer Brewery has been brewing and serving classic ales since 1995. Starting in 2015, we will regularly feature cask-conditioned ales served from wood kilderkins made by Alastair Simms, the only master cooper in the United Kingdom. Michael Jackson, aka the "Beer Hunter", visited the Hunter-Gatherer Brewery in 1997. He wrote that the Hunter-Gatherer is "the kind of place CAMRA (Campaign For Real Ale) members might enjoy. The beer is the hero, rather than the brewery being an afterthought. In the U.S., And even sometimes in Britain, the latter is too often the case." Michael Jackson was the best beer writer and critic the world has known. A compliment from Michael Jackson is as meaningful as it gets in the brewery world.
