On the way from Charleston to Florida, we noticed La Fontana restaurant and made the best decision to turn around and eat there. My husband has Italian background and lived in Italy for some time. We loved their (really) authentic food. I am sure we...will be visiting them again Mirjana and DamirMore

Having worked in an authentic Italian restaurant myself, I'll give Fontana full marks for quality. My 'Linguine con cozze' [mussels] was superb, and I'm very fussy about shellfish. Portions are appropriately ample, but not excessive like so many places. My 11 yo daughter had lasagna,...which was very good, but lacking 'child portions' there was far too much of it, and it was full entrée price. The wine list was not extensive, but certainly adequate, and you can get some pretty good ones by the glass.More

Soda was served to us in a can, we had to pour it ourselves. For the price they charged for our dinners I would not expect to have to do that. The food at best was average.

La Fontana reminds one of a time gone by. Small by today's standards and a little shabby. The food is terrific! We had linguini and the fettucine with shrimp. Both top notch. Service attentive without being over bearing. Full bar. Wine by the glass very...good.More

The service is very slow. The menu in the restaurant is different than their website menu. When I asked about it, they told me that that have not update their website since Covid. If you are choosing the place based on their online menu -...don’t. How difficult is it to update your on menu???More

This is the first time that Trip Advisor let me down. I always use this app to find local businesses. We like to support local business when we travel and stay away from chains. Anyway, I got the chicken alfredo. It wasnt great. My husband...got the chicken parm. The breading was soggy and the meal was bland. The waitress/hostess wasnt horrible but not extremely outgoing either. Would we go back...NOPE!More

Wonderful family owned & operated Italian restaurant. Every entree was delicious and a beautiful presentation. On our next visit to Charleston we will be back for another great Italian dinner.

The booths have huge rips in the vinyl covering and no support. Service was almost nonexistent. I got Chicken Parmesan. The chicken must have been bought frozen and pre breaded. The chicken breast was not pounded at all, and the breading was way, way, too...thick to the point it completely overpowered the chicken and mozzarella. My wife got the chicken special (chicken pieces, mushrooms & cherry tomatoes in a garlic and oil sauce) over linguine. She liked it but it was $32 - clearly not worth that. We each ordered a glass of wine off the wine list (both $9). They did not have either and said they have house wine. We each ordered it and we were surprised when we got the bill for $10 each - and it was a small pour.More

Please avoid! Worst restaurant experience. Rude staff that argued with each other, forgot my order and just overall a very poor experience. I’m not one for negative reviews, but this was worth the review, unfortunately.

La Fontana is a small quite Italian restaurant. The dining room is dimly lit and the menu is simple and to the point. We started with the tomato soup which was the highlight of the meal. It was delicious. I had the Saltimbocca, and my...wife had the chicken piccata. Both dishes had watery sauce that did not adhere to the pasta. My sauce was flavorless. There was kale or something in the dish that overpowered the flavor and was all I could taste. The chicken and the prosciutto that was wrapped around it were both soggy. Unfortunately, it was not worth the price and i would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The staff was friendly and nice but unless you go for only the soup, I would not recommend this place.More

We had reservations for a party of seven on Christmas Eve. We were seated immediately. We were brought water and menus. Someone came over and explained the specials and we ordered. No one came back to take any drink orders from us so we spent...the entire dinner only with water. We ordered appetizers (3) which came out staggered, one at a time. Out of our party of seven, we received 5 dinners, two which were incorrect and went back to the kitchen. Three of us ate our meals and were completely finished with plates cleared before the additional meals came out, also staggered. If it wasn’t Christmas Eve we would have made a fuss. We weren’t even offered a single comped item out of a $300.00 meal bill. Poor service, poor customer service and although the food was very good apparently our business wasn’t important to them. Good riddance.More

Quite surprised that this place was open on Chrisman day, This was the only game in town. Everyone else was closed. So we went in for lunch. The place was full and they were taking people with a reservation. We did not have one but...no problem, we sat at the bar. We split a meal and decided to go back for dinner. Reservations were already full but again, they made room for us at the bar. If you know us, you know that the bar is were we would rather be seated. This was no exception. The service was good. Food was served fast. The other people next to us were very nice. We talked the entire time. Compared notes on the food and we all agreed, the food was good. So, if and when you are in this area or want to take a date, this is a good spot for that. Enjoy and have a good meal.More

We were staying at the Hampton Inn nearby and made reservations here. I later cancelled the reservation and chose Ruby Tuesday's. After 30 minutes there with little service, we left and drove here. There was a large party at the area nearest the bar, but...there were a few tables so we got one. My other half started with a glass of Impero white wine for $9. I just drank water. I chose the Veal Marsala. Other half had the Lasagna al Forno. Everything was delicious, and we cleaned our plates. We also enjoyed the free bread with the olive oil to dip. Service was very good even with the full, Sunday night crowd. If back in Charleston, this would be my choice for authentic Italian food. It was only my 2nd time ever to Charleston, and I kept thinking of the DeMasi family that I visited 40 years ago on my 1st visit. Hi to Diane if you know her. I wondered if they ate here! I bet they did. Grazie!More
