This place was such a disappointment. Over priced food that you can make at home. The staff looked like they hated their job. They kept mispronouncing Italian dishes like Bruschetta. Obviously not authentic.

We moved to the area in August (from Pennsylvania) It's been terrific trying out so many wonderful restaurants. Last night's adventure was Mondo's with a table for 4. Everyone loved everything: the arancini and bruschetta appetizers, the manicotti and meatballs and the gorgonzola pasta dish...(WOW flavor). Prices good, place busy and service just FINE! Until next time: CIAOMore
HAD to have some our favorite fare from our #1 Italian Restaurant. Call in your order and they will even text you once it’s ready for pick up. This time we had Prosciutto Wrapped Artichoke Hearts, Spaghetti &Meatballs, and Pomodoro with added Grilled Chicken. Fantastic!!...The only thing missing was the friendly wait staff coming to our dinner table, though the counter staff made our pick up a breeze. Note: as of today, (9/8), they have limited in-restaurant dining. Satisfy your craving and support our local friends.More
Good food and reasonable prices. Closed inside due to Covid so we ordered for pick up. The penne with prosciutto and peas was excellent.
This place puts out consistently good food with consistently good service. Over the years, I have notice that a fair number of their employees have stayed the same-always a good sign in my opinion. That speaks volumes about the management and the pride all employees...take in their work! Servers are attentive and polite and the bartenders (inside and out) are quick and can give really good food recommendations [if they suggest the dinner special-believe them]. I've had take out and dined-in many times and have tried a number of things on their menu. I've rarely been anything other than completely satisfied! The classics are classic for a reason and Mondo's does them well. The al dente pasta makes you really appreciate that it is the in-house-made. The specials are worth an order (particularly what they do with pork tenderloins and salmon). I haven't tried it, but a dinner companion raved about the beet salad. The location can be a bit surprising, but don't let that deter you. It's at the end of a little strip mall beside a Sonic. They have created a lovely little restaurant there with a fun, closed-in patio for bar and table service. This place is a James Island institution and those of us lucky enough to live here know it. It is busy-for good reason. The restaurant doesn't take reservations for groups smaller than 6 or larger than 9 (if my recollection is correct). If you're there on a typical Thursday, Friday, or Saturday for dine-in you may have to wait unless but it's worth it so try to get there early.More
Solid Italian red sauce offerings. Nice wine list. Good service by folks who know the menu. A little hard to find if you are not a local. Note: large portions.
My boyfriend and I have been coming here for the last few years. After our very first time, we knew this was the place to go to for special occasions. We've been there for anniversaries, birthdays, and when we just want to spoil ourselves. Our...most recent trip was in December as a Christmas gift to ourselves. Wait times can be long, but it's worth it. The food is wonderful. Everything is always so fresh! Pasta is homemade and the seafood tastes like it was just caught that day. I usually get chicken and it's never dry! The building may be small, but I love the atmosphere. It's quaint and more personable. The staff is good too. There have been people that were better than others, but I don't think we've ever had a bad experience with anyone there. However, there was one who really stood out to us a few months ago. Chris was by far the best waiter that we've ever had! It was the end of the night and he was so energetic and fun to interact with. You never would've guessed that he pulled a double shift that day. He made the experience even better for us. The food may seem expensive, but their entrees are good for 2 meals. I don't think I've ever left the restaurant without needing a to-go box! Long story short, Mondo's has great food, good atmosphere, and good employees. Go there!More
Might be rating this place as I have to plan a blue hair time to eat dinner there as it is - well run food is excellent and when you have tenured staff you know the rest
Thank you for the review, Brentybrent! We appreciate you understanding how busy we are and we are so thankful for our regular guests. We hope to see you again soon!
In Charleston for one night, thought we would revisit Mondos which opens at 5. Got there about 5:05, Got a table. By 5:15 there was a wait! Guess the locals know to go early. Food and service were great. Special was outstanding.
Hi, Mamapapa64! We are so glad you chose to dine with us on your one night in Charleston! We’ve been tucked away in that location surprising our guests with great Italian since 1998. We hope to see you again on your next trip in town!
Thought I’d give this another shot, and guess what? Can’t expect things to change. The food quality is okay, but the service attitude puts it at the bottom of my list, forever... stay away, steer clear!More
Hi, Douglas. We see you have returned again after the last experience and review. We are sorry to hear you feel that way. We stand by our response to your last review. "We have policies and protocols in place for running the restaurant. Bullying my...More
