We went there last night but the wait was too long so we left. We had read about the food and wanted to try it, we came in from out of town for a few days. We ordered takeout today which I went and picked up. The food was awesome! Fresh pasta was to die for. Had the rigatoni with sweet sausage with a couple of meatballs, was terrific. Wife had chicken piccatta, sister in law had chicken in a carbonara type sauce with pasta was delicious. Bread was awesome. Definitely will be returning. We wanted to eat in but settled for takeout, it did not disappoint.

We patiently waited at the bar watching beautiful dishes coming from the kitchen. The wait was well worth it! We ordered pasta dishes that were well seasoned and packed in the flavor. I ordered penne pasta with mushrooms tomatoes in a light sauce topped with blackened chicken. The pasta was cooked al dente and is a large serving. My husband ordered the mussels scallops shrimp dish severed over fettuccine. Both our servings were so large we enjoyed them for lunch the next day. The wild berry Gelato ended our quiet dinner on their outdoor umbrella covered patio. This was our favorite meal on our Charleston vacation. The outdoor atmosphere combined with such a friendly wait staff is a winning combination. I would gladly return.

We like to try to find restaurants frequented by locals when we travel & we found it in Mondo’s. Do yourself a favor and take a little drive out of downtown. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed! If you’re just looking for fancy atmosphere, this is not your place. If you’re looking for great Italian food, it is your place! Todd was our server & he was excellent! They don’t take reservations, so plan accordingly. There is usually a wait, but there is a bar outside. We loved it & will definitely be back!

Knew they didn’t take reservations so, as VERY regular customers, we called and asked if they could just hold a table for 8 for us for my husband’s birthday if we got there as soon as they opened. We were there on time and promptly seated. However when we asked for the dessert options after our meal we were promptly told that they held that table for us which is an exception to their norm and that they needed to turn the table over so refused to take a dessert order, basically asking us to leave. They insisted we get up so then we were all awkwardly standing in the cramped restaurant waiting to pay our bill. They acted like we were criminals or something instead of showing even a hint of appreciation for the revenue that a table of 8 brings. Please note that we were with our adult children and their spouses and we were in no way whatsoever rowdy or loud. We’ve never been back since. They owners have trained their staff to have an assembly line attitude and I’d just rather stay home and cook my own pasta.

I drove my family in tonight about 45 minutes to enjoy a dinner. Upon arriving, we were quickly notified by the hostess that they will not seat parties of more than six under any circumstances. It wasn't necessarily their policy that was troublesome. It was the extremely dismissive and rude attitude of the hostess. This is obviously a restaurant that caters to its locals and doesn't want or appreciate the business of anyone who isn't local. My advice would be, if you aren't local, don't bother visiting this restaurant. If you have more than six in your group, don't bother visiting this restaurant. If you want verification of the facts I have stated, just look at the Google reviews of other individuals who have rudely been turned away by this horrible, ghoul of a hostess. You have plenty of other options, including some fine Italian establishments within just a couple miles of these unappreciative and self entitled workers.

Our group of 11 well dressed, reasonable seniors tried to have dinner at Mondos recently. We arrived 20 minutes before the restaurant opened and waited patiently behind the chained doorway. We were the first party to arrive.when the door was opened, chain removed, the greeter asked how many in our party. 11, we said. She said they would not serve parties larger than six. We said , no problem, we would be happy to split into 2 or even 3 smaller groups. She said they still would not serve us. We again offered to break into 3 or 3 smaller groups and stated it didn’t matter if the groups were seated near each other or not. She then went to speak with the manager. The manager returned and she was equally rude. She said “we don’t serve parties larger than 6 and we know that there are 11 of you.” We patiently repeated that we would be fine with being several smaller groups . She replied, very curtly, “we won’t serve any of you tonight, no matter what.” Charleston is a lovely city with many great restaurants and plenty of warm Southern hospitality. I would suggest to anyone considering eating at this restaurant to find another place.

We are locals that love food and supporting local businesses. This jem always pleases. Fresh, flavorful, and friendly service from spaghetti and meatballs to tonight’s special, Shimp and Sausage Diavola.....soooo tasty. Don’t forget the Prosciutto Wrapped Artichoke Heart appetizer. Thank me later. Enjoy!

This restaurant has the distinction of having the most rude hostess and most arrogant manager of any restaurant I have ever been to. Mondo’s is not worth the effort it takes to go there. We’ve been going there for years and enjoyed the food but ignored the hostess. Our last two visits convinced us to never go there again.

Indoor restaurant was closed for some reason. We ate at the bar, service was good, no atmosphere. The Prosciutto Wrapped Artichokes were tasty as was my penne pasta with vodka sauce. I’ve had better and I’ve had worse. Not compelled to visit again, but would not be averse either. Just so many other options I would prefer.

My boyfriend and I have been coming here for the last few years. After our very first time, we knew this was the place to go to for special occasions. We've been there for anniversaries, birthdays, and when we just want to spoil ourselves. Our most recent trip was in December as a Christmas gift to ourselves. Wait times can be long, but it's worth it. The food is wonderful. Everything is always so fresh! Pasta is homemade and the seafood tastes like it was just caught that day. I usually get chicken and it's never dry! The building may be small, but I love the atmosphere. It's quaint and more personable. The staff is good too. There have been people that were better than others, but I don't think we've ever had a bad experience with anyone there. However, there was one who really stood out to us a few months ago. Chris was by far the best waiter that we've ever had! It was the end of the night and he was so energetic and fun to interact with. You never would've guessed that he pulled a double shift that day. He made the experience even better for us. The food may seem expensive, but their entrees are good for 2 meals. I don't think I've ever left the restaurant without needing a to-go box! Long story short, Mondo's has great food, good atmosphere, and good employees. Go there!

HAD to have some our favorite fare from our #1 Italian Restaurant. Call in your order and they will even text you once it’s ready for pick up. This time we had Prosciutto Wrapped Artichoke Hearts, Spaghetti &Meatballs, and Pomodoro with added Grilled Chicken. Fantastic!! The only thing missing was the friendly wait staff coming to our dinner table, though the counter staff made our pick up a breeze. Note: as of today, (9/8), they have limited in-restaurant dining. Satisfy your craving and support our local friends.

We moved to the area in August (from Pennsylvania) It's been terrific trying out so many wonderful restaurants. Last night's adventure was Mondo's with a table for 4. Everyone loved everything: the arancini and bruschetta appetizers, the manicotti and meatballs and the gorgonzola pasta dish (WOW flavor). Prices good, place busy and service just FINE! Until next time: CIAO

Food is awful, restaurant is dirty, and management is actually worse than the food and ambiance combined. As you can see from other negative reviews, the “Chef/Owner Chris”, typically responds with hostility. Shows you the level of class (none) of the person who runs this restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go to Charleston or Kiawah to dine.

My family and I have lived on James Island and Folly through 5 generations. The food and service here has always been hands down amazing. Service was great except for the having the rudest host. Every interaction with the host was absolutely terrible. She had the worst attitude and facial expressions. Her alone will make me never want to return again. I asked our server her name and she said it was Lisa. She needs to find a new profession that doesn’t involve customer service.

This place is amazing! My husband and I just moved to the area and chose this as a new dinner spot to try. The service was phenomenal and the food was just as good. Shoutout to Todd for his excellent service and positive attitude! We will definitely be returning soon.
