An Excellent Place

Basil is a real jewel in Charleston. The quality of their Asian cuisine is as good as you will get in the United States. The staff is attentive and very focused on their customers. It is an excellent place for both locals and visitors.

Thai food for us is a sort of default choice when we can't decide or agree on a place. We were walking up and down King Street trying to decide on a spot when we opened the door to Basil. The Tum yum soup was tasty and the serving for two was generous. We both enjoyed our meal.

While Thai food is generally not my first choice there are some great dishes that I enjoy. I have not had any Thai food since moving to Charleston so i was pleased when it was suggested as an option for lunch. We shared the Fresh Basil Rolls which were great, I love the sauce that came with them, and I... More

I had the fresh basil rolls and chicken Pad Kee Mow. I'd recommend both. The ingredients tasted very fresh and the atmosphere was modern yet comfortable.

I was surprised how good the Pad Thai was considering that Basil is a chain of restaurants. Two in Charleston, one in Charlotte, and one Jacksonville. The location is a bit small, but the food is good.

I travel around to different restaurants more often than I should, and I can say this (even compared to the other Basil's) The Downtown Basil is the best Thai restaurant I have ever been to in South Carolina. The mood and ambiance is great. The service is ALWAYS 5-star! If you are wondering on whether you should go... GO!! :-)

Fantastic food! I did try the Pad Thai which I thought was great. It came with Chicken and Shrimp but you could order any combination. Prices very reasonable.

Expect to wait a long time....as an aside, there is a sister restaurant in Mt. Pleasant that does take reservations. Beautiful building and outside patio in Mt. Pleasant. Appetizers we enjoy are the eggrolls and the shrimp and chicken wontons. Sometimes, this can be enough for a meal. Of course, the Pad Thai is amazing. My husband and I can... More
