What an awful experience! We have been loyal customers for years and for a long time it was always wonderful. However, the last few years have been different. I don't like to write negative reviews but I must this time. Today I went through the...drive thru window. I had to wait six minutes before someone finally said, hang on be with you in a few minutes. A few minutes later I placed my order and waited about 15 minutes for my order. Arrived at home and placed all the bags on the table for the family to eat. Mmmm, the order was not complete. Missing one entire meal. I checked the receipt and I did indeed order correctly - and I was charged for the meal. Back to the restaurant (20 minutes away). I tried to go into the restaurant but the line was long and I was hungry and did not want to wait in line. I walked up to the drive thru window and knocked several times - totally ignored. Back in the car and drove up to the drive in window order board. Waited 8 minutes and someone says "the drive thru is closed at this time." No sign, no way to explain the situation. Park again and stand in line. Arrived at the counter and started to explain and I did not have to finish because they realized they had left the meal out. "She's here for the basket." I asked before I left - is this hot? Yes, the young lady replied. Not one I'm so sorry about this, not one apology for the inconvenience of the situation. She just handed me the bag. I got home and fries were cold, onion ring was cold and mushy, I am not sure why I did not check it there. Needless to say it was a very frustrating experience and the food for family was mediocre. Honestly I left with the feeling that they were doing me a favor to let me eat there, I don't think so. I think Melvin's will be our go to now. They always appreciate your business and they tell you that they do.More

A very good place to have a tasty good value bbq, burgers, or chicken. It was right next to my hotel and turned out to be a nice discovery. I had the lunch special big chick combo, which was really big. It needed a little...bit of spicing though.,,Not bad at all!More

My son & I decided that we wanted to try some real Southern BBQ food and saw this place from the road driving west from Chareston. We parked for free outside this place. Here, you place your order at the counter, leave your name and...then they shout it out when your food is ready. We didn't really know what to choose but the young lady behind the counter helped us out. She recommended that I try the Pulled Pork with pork bake beans, mac & cheese and corn bread. My son ordered chicken which came with a huge, delicious onion ring. It came on a tray with the food presented on a metal tray with greaseproof paper with some of the sides coming in small cardboard containers. No plates not silver cutlery in sight. We also bought large drinks from the "fountain" – chilled lemonade & I also tried Dr Peppers. On our way out, with stomachs full, I caught up with our server again. She confirmed that we definitely had a typical Southern styled meal. This isn't a high class restaurant. A bit down to earth but with great food!More

The food is reasonably priced and the BBQ is tasty. It seems to be a local favorite with a family friendly atmosphere. This is a sit down place, but you order at the counter and wait for your name to be called - don’t expect...to be waited on here. That being said, the counter staff was helpful and professional.More

Hey so just a suggestion , if you are unable to staff your drive thru window , don't even open it ... sitting and waiting for 35 minutes because no one even bothers to come to the window after food has been ordered is very...unacceptable . Management Change is obviously needed. Whoever was managing this location on June 12 around 3 pm needs to be seriously evaluated. Huge, enormous problems happening at this location.More

We don't live in Charleston but when possible we eat here whether we travel through. It is always delicious!!

The Bar B Que brisket is fabulous. friendly staff and great service. Sandy was at work in the dining room as is a big asset to this place. She greeted us with a friendly smile and checked on us regularly.

Been going to Bessinger’s for 40 years. It is a favorite of my wife and me when we visit Charleston. In this case it was a bad experience. We waited over 30 minutes for our meal due them cooking our onion rings. The onions rings...came out burned and when my wife took them back she got attitude. When the replacement onion rings were provided, they were nowhere close to the Bessinger style. Again when my wife returned the obviously bad onion rings, she got a rude reaction. Unfortunately not a good visit. The management needs to look into their product and service.More

Was on an overnight stay in Charleston and seen Bessinger’s online and thought I would check it out. Enjoyed it so much the first night I went back for the second night for dinner again! This place is the real deal!

Perhaps this is an unfair review given that we arrived on Fathers Day after a 6 hour drive and we were tired and hungry. However, the management can improve communication with those taking food orders regardless of day. We ordered brisket and just when it...was being rung in, suddenly there was no more brisket available. As well as chicken wings. A man had ordered wings and had been waiting at least 15 minutes when he was told there were no more wings. We then ordered pulled chicken which was served but came out cold. I was the second person this had happened to. The chicken was good otherwise. The slaw was very good as was the okra. After talking to several locals I believe this was an unusual occurrence because they all love Bessingers.More

I drive 2 hours from Myrtle Beach to Bessinger's I pass a lot of eating places. I know what I want and its great food so well worth the drive and price. I prefer the cheeseburger basket. The big fries an awesome onion ring that...you will never find anywhere else. Then I take a couple pounds of the best BBQ back home with me and some sauce. If you haven't been, go you will go back I promise.More

This is very good place to eat BBQ, it has a great taste, and the sides are plentiful. It seems to be a mustard-based sauce that is available, but it is very good. The staff were friendly and welcoming if you have never been there,...really enjoyed the food. Worth a lunch or dinner stop very tastyMore
