About
Florence’s Lowcountry Kitchen is a tribute to Florence Powell, the Great Grandmother of Jonathan and Patrick Kish of 82 Queen Restaurant established in 1982. Florence Mosley was born in 1908 in Charleston and worked at The American Tobacco Company’s Cigar Factory, where she met and married Plant Manager Jesse Powell. They enjoyed their life in the Lowcountry, crabbing, fishing, visiting the Limehouse Farmers Market on Wapoo road, and creating delicious home-cooked southern meals. They passed their recipes down to their granddaughter Tyler Kish, wife to Steve Kish chef/owner of 82 Queen. Florence and Jesse’s favorite dishes to cook were Deviled Crab Cakes, Seafood Gumbo, and Johnny Cakes. For

This recent arrival is a welcome addition to eating options in this part of Folly road. We stopped by for Saturday lunch, prompted by several positive comments on social media. We were not disappointed. The restaurant has several types of seating, well spaced out. Service...is friendly, efficient and unobtrusive. The menu offers a good variety from which to choose and we found our meals tasty, well prepared and well presented. We left thinking the restaurant was in the nands of people who now how to make it work well. We will definitely be backMore

This was the first time to eat here for all of us. I had the crab cake entree. The crab cakes were greasy, the red rice was slightly al dente but the squash was good. My husband and one of our friends had the seafood...gumbo and the veggies in the dish were not cooked completely otherwise the dish was OK. Our other friend had the shrimp and grits and she said it was great.More

We had a fabulous dinner at Florence’s. We started with the Hot Shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was crispy and the sauce was sweet and spicy and melted in your mouth. I had the seafood pasta with 2 pieces of garlic bread. The bread was warm,...buttery, and soft. The pasta dish had scallops and shrimp. This was yummy! My wife had the Side Dish— sautéed squash and onions, rice, and Gouda Mac & Cheese. It was all fabulous! The manager (Madeline) checked on us several times to make sure we were taken care of. She was a southern sweetheart with a warm heart and a sparkling smile. We’ll be back soon!More

Food was disappointing. Definitel Award winny not southern fried chicken. Three pieces were small, coating was bland., and half breast dry and overooked. Red rice lacked any sausage and was bland. Mac and cheese was good but I wanted something else--No substitutes! She crab soup...would not win an award. She had crab cakes and fried okra, both just OK. There is NO ambiance. Its in an old shopping center, interior is not inviting and small booths are not comfortable. Limited wine and beer choices unless you buy the whole bottle. Prices are expensve, I've had much better. I cannot believe all these positive reviews.More

Very good! Recommend getting a reservation. We did get lucky and was able to eat outside. I had the fried chicken, and I felt it was over cooked. Breast meat was dry. Fried okra was fantastic, and Mac n cheese was good. Wife loved the...collard greens. Very good place to eat.More

I’m surprised at the number of stellar reviews. We chose to visit based on that. The food was mediocre. Although the fried green tomatoes were presented nicely but tasted bland. I did not care for the shrimp and grits either. The bacon overwhelmed the shrimp....My husband’s fried chicken was over cooked a dark brown and dry. The red rice was also dry. He said the Mac and cheese was the best part of the platter. The strawberry mule was underwhelming. I wasn’t even sure there was any alcohol in it to be honest. In summary, not great but not terrible.More

I have been here on several occasions and i am never disappointed. The food is fabulous. I always get the pimento cheese as my app and so love it. I brought my friend new to the area that never had it before . I knew...this was the place to try. I also had the chicken salad wrap and a lovely bowl of tomato bisque. all amazing. The best part was the conversations with our server Andrew. He was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu and gave us a great history lesson about the restaurant. That was a very nice touch to a great lunch !More

A southern seafood restaurant with a vintage Oceanside country cottage vibe was adorable and delicious! The fried fish was crispy and juicy, and the pimento cheese grits were flavorful and the perfect texture! Our fave dishes so far are the fried green tomato appetizer and...the fried fish and grits! Natalie was our server and she was very attentive and friendly! We will be back soon to try brunch!More

First time here. Nice deco and atmosphere. Riley was a fantastic server. Food we got was great: fried green tomatoes, flounder, chicken sandwich, and bread pudding. Definitely going back to try more items on the menu.

I caught up with an old friend here for brunch and absolutely loved it. Their berry and cream French toast is delicious, and while I've never been a fan of tomatoes, my friend insisted I try their Fried Green Tomatoes and they were amazing! Our...server Andrew was incredibly on top of it and friendly. Will definitely be coming here again next time I visit!More

We decided at the spur of the moment to have lunch at Florence's, and we are definitely glad we did! All the food was spot on, from the arugula salad to the fried chicken to the sweet tea. And how could I forget the bread...pudding with mixed berries? It was one of the best I have had in Charleston. But our server Natalie made the meal; she was attentive throughout. We will definitely be back!More

We are. “ locals”, but for some reason we had not eaten at Florence’s before. We were celebrating my friend’s birthday, so decided to go there for lunch. We were delighted by how delicious everything was and also by our server Natalie, who was friendly,...efficient, and professional. Chef Matthew came over to say hello, and as it turns out my friend knew him. We are both former food and beverage people, so we’re pretty particular when it comes to restaurants. Everything was delicious-crab cake sandwich, flounder sandwich, red rice, and then chocolate mousse and mixed berry bread pudding for dessert! Thanks for a great luncheon experience!More

I went and ate at Florence’s earlier this week and met up with a group of friends. The food was so amazing, we started with the fried green tomatoes and crab dip that our server Reiley recommended. They were both incredible dishes and a unique...twist on typical fried green tomatoes. We all enjoyed our entrees and the portions are huge, we defiantly had left overs. I would highly recommend the flounder or crab cakes. I would highly recommend making the drive and trying Florence’s, it is worth it. We had exceptional service from Reiley and will definitely be back again. 😊More
