About
A modern southern eatery. The concept for Revival is modern, yet relaxed dining with a focus on recipes and/or ingredients from South Carolina’s past. The Chef de Cuisine works directly with local farmers to “revive” certain ingredients and utilize them in our dishes. A sample of these ingredients includes the previously extinct Nostrale rice, Jimmy Red grits, or the Bradford Watermelon. Enjoy Revival with a specialty cocktail, an amazing dinner, and later visit the Rooftop for an incredible view.

We made reservations for New Years Eve dinner with friends. We are all big foodies so we were looking forward to the tasting menu with wine pairings. The chef created a very thoughtful menu beginning with amuse-bouche of scallop ravioli with foie gras and caviar, followed by oyster casino which was okay but not spectacular, the 3rd course was a handmade pasta with mushrooms which was very tasty, followed by a lobster and Savoy cabbage dish that was mind blowing. It was such a great combination of flavors with smoked trout roe and a few other unique spices. Perfection! Next course was a well prepared and tasty fillet of beef with potatoe and carrot. Not terribly inventive but done really well nonetheless. Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake, who was too much chocolate. Wine pairings were all very good. We engaged the sommelier to talk about his selections and he was knowledgeable and his explanations believable and thoughtful.
Overall the food preparation and wine selections great. Two of the the dishes (scallop and lobster) were as good as you can get in Charleston or New York for that matter.
The dining room was beautiful and the art original and amazing to enjoy while eating, one server came to our table and talked about the artwork which was a really pleasant surprise.
The hostess unfortunately was rude and unprofessional. When we arrived 6 minutes earlier she rushed up to us and asked us to go wait in the bar area and she would come get us in 6 minutes. She just pointed in the direction of the bar. She was abrupt and cold and unpleasant. Considering we were going to be spending $400 for the two of us in this high end restaurant we expected a warm welcome. She was also wearing jeans and a t-shirt and had her phone in her back pocket when she wasn't texting someone. The other wait staff were very nice and acted professionally. They also had on black t-shirts and jeans which didn't seem to fit in with the decor and high end venue. I think that our waitress was relatively new as she didn't seem to know too much about the food or wines but she was very nice. Overall a wonderful eating experience.

Made reservations for Sunday evening dining as most of the reservations for Saturday evening dining downtown Charleston were already booked. Entered to find the restaurant completely empty at 7pm. My guest and I treated it as a private dining experience as if we had booked the entire restaurant. Melissa, our server, provided her undivided attention to us and even played along g to make our experience even more unique. The cocktails were summertime refreshing ordered the Oysters Casino, Lowcountry Pirlou, and scallop catch of the day. All were phenomenal!

We (5 adults and 3 young girls, 5, 7 and 10 yrs old) tried to get a reservation at Fleet Landing restaurant due to its high rating, but they couldn't/wouldn't have us. Revival responded on the same day (Thursday) and seated us. The food was excellent, including the crab cakes (no filler), dry aged beef tartare, oysters Rockefeller, and especially the Low country pirlou which had butter lobster, scallops and shrimp. For out chicken lover, the roast chicken was very good. The kids particularly enjoyed their crusty Mac and Cheese. And the service was tops. The price is up there, but we felt that the food and experience were well worth it.

Unfortunately I picked this restaurant for our anniversary dinner, due to its rating and great reviews, and it was just not good? Our first true disappointment dining here in Charleston.
We had just eaten at Halls Chophouse the night before and had literally the best meal in our entire time married together, so Revival had a high bar to meet! When entering, we found that the restaurant had a musty, almost moldy oder like in the basement of your grandma’s house, kind of off putting, but the food and ambiance would make up for that, right? Wrong!
The dining area has an upscale, modern style to it and the waiters are very personable and friendly with their service. The food, unfortunately, doesn’t live up to this. My wife had a half dozen raw oysters that were literally nonexistent! Flavorful yes, tiny, definitely yes! My She Crab soup, had great flavor and plenty of Crab, but was again lacking a bit in the bowl? Looked more like an optical illusion, than a proper bowl of soup? The Oysters Casino had outstanding flavor, but those teeny weeny Oysters again provided little sustenance?
What the appetizers lacked in size, the entrees lacked in flavor? My wife had a disappointing, and over cooked Grouper that was flavorless, on a flavorless succotash and pea cake. The Low Country Pirlou sounded excellent on the menu and looked equally excellent in its presentation! But the multi seafood laden dish just lacked any flavor, even with a dark garlic aioli? You know the meal is going down hill when the best thing on the table was the Mac n Cheese, which was very good, but no where near the best I’ve eaten. Unless they can revive my trust in their cooking, I honestly can’t recommend this establishment.

This restaurant looks the part but misses the mark. It is a white tablecloth venue in an art gallery hotel. Revival's web site states that they have worked with local farmers to 'revive' old southern ingredients and use them in their dishes. I understand the concept and I value their mission but if you are going to name a dish after a classic southern dish, you might want to stay true to the flavors. My husband had the lowcountry pirlou: It seemed that all of the seafood was poached together and it all tasted like chicken broth. The shrimp and grits contained a small amount of grits and a plentiful serving of butter poached shrimp but I was missing the creaminess of the grits and the kick of some andouille sausage.
The staff missed the mark, also. We had the she crab soup and the oysters casino for appetizers but they had to go back and get us a soup spoon and an oyster fork. That's just not what is supposed to happen in a fine dining restaurant. I think they will survive on the tourist industry but I think it will not become a local favorite.

Although I already knew that Charleston has some very fine restaurants, I found that Revival served one of the best meals I've ever had. What an interesting idea to revive Low Country foods and recipes from long ago. The dining room is bright and modern but quiet enough on a Tuesday evening to carry on a conversation with no shouting. Server CT was knowledgeable and helpful.
The locally-grown vegetables in the complimentary crudite with Green Godess sauce were super fresh and tasty. The roasted beet salad with home made ricotta was nice although I would have liked a little more of the honey cider vinagrette to spice it up. But maybe they did not do that in the old days! The outstanding entree was Lowcountry Pirlou, a stew of fresh fish, lobster and shrimp in a buttery sauce with Carolina rice and a black garlic aioli (a delightfully inventive touch). For dessert, the Key Lime Pie was tart and exactly as I like it. Portions were appropriate, not huge.
If you enjoy excellent food, put Revival on your list as a special occasion place!

My husband and I visit Charleston often. We are foodies and always research reviews before choosing where we will dine. We chose Revival because it was new and noticed the great reviews.
Starting off we were warmly greeted by our waiter, John. We had lots of questions and he explained everything in detail. It is such a treat when you get a waiter who is incredibly knowledgable about food.
I started with the most amazing crab cakes. They could possibly be the best I have had.
My husband and I both chose the Tuna entree. We had the roasted mushrooms and asked to have olive oil instead of butter(calories). John was totally accommodating to all our requests.
A great experience and yes we will be back!

We are staying at the Vendue (a new favorite place to stay so check out their review) and the manager Josh talked very highly of the restaurant. We are celebrating our anniversary so wanted something special. We walked in and were greeted by a sweet and charming hostess, we chatted and sat next to the window so we could people watch. Melissa was our server and we just clicked. She has probably ruined most other servers for us. We talked to her about the food and basically just let her order for us. It did not disappoint. The lump crab is incredible. My Grouper was about as perfect as you could ever ask for, my wife's filet was absolutely delicious and cooked just how she wanted and the house made steak sauce Melissa suggested was perfect. The corn....well let's just say the corn will change your life. Chef Richard and Chef Dontrell are true masters with taste and presentation. Thank you all so much. Special thanks to Melissa, you made a special dinner one of our most memorable dinners to date. For anyone reading this and wondering if the price is worth it...just go. Tell Melissa Joe and Robin sent you. She will get a kick out of that!

My husband surprised me with a special date night out for my birthday at Revival. I must say, the WHOLE experience was wonderful but our waitress Karis just exceeded all expectations. Great personality, beautiful person inside and out and the best service we've experienced anywhere in Charleston so far (and we do date nights a lot). It was such a pleasure to meet her!!!
The ambiance of the restaurant is sophisticated yet quaint and comfortable located inside the Vendue art hotel. The food was full of flavor, fantastic and no itty bitty portion sizes either. We started with the crab cakes only because of Karis' recommendations and we were glad we did. (Neither my husband nor I generally care for crab cakes but these were made with all crab, no breading and were delicious). I enjoyed the Lowcountry pirlou, so many different flavors it was wonderful! My husband devoured duck confiet. It was a melt in your mouth kind of deliciousness! I was offered a free dessert to celebrate my birthday and a birthday card signed by all of the staff 😊👍, very sweet. Both of our deserts were over the top. We will definitely be going back to try out some more menu options. 100% recommend!!

Horrible food. Ordered ice tea, they didn’t have any but the bartender tried to make something resembling ice tea but was horrible. I ordered a diet coke, had to wait 15 minutes while they changed the tanks, then had to ask the waiter if they were bringing one. I ordered a half dozen oysters that were good but didn’t come with crackers. Got the waiter and they brought over a large cracker of some kind but was stale. I got the grouper with a pea corn cake. No flavor and the peas were hard. Grouper need salt so they bought me a salt grinder that didn’t work. My wife got shrimp and grits and she only ate the shrimp. I can not believe all the good reviews on trip advisor as our meal was perhaps the worst one we ever had.

Our hotel concierges had booked us at another restaurant but after looking at the menu neither of us were thrilled. So I started searching for a restaurant that both of us would like- not always the easiest since I am vegetarian and he is not. This menu looked workable for us both. Not only was it amazing but the staff was superb. Melissa, our waitress, was wonderful. She had spot on suggestions and was very attentive to our every need. I had a special vegetable plate which the chef made special with fresh corn, okra, tomatoes, mixed mushrooms and rice. So wonderfully flavorful. Best meal I have had in so long. I forgot - we started with the Burrata which was delightfully good. My dining mate had the Pan seared grouper which he couldn’t stop raving about. We ended the meal with the Key Lime Pie and the warm Lemon Cake which were perfect and filled in every crack left to fill. I highly recommend eating at Revival. You won’t be sorry. Ask for Melissa to wait on you - she is great waitress!

The complete package: ambience, service and most importantly, the food. When most of the diners had blazers/jackets, I knew that the diners expected a certain experience, and respected the restaurant. We were not disappointed. Our server, Haley, immediately knew that we wanted a civilized cocktail respite before ordering, then spaced the appetizers, entrees and dessert perfectly. The food and beverage manager, Terrell, stopped by, asking (sincerely) about our experience. It was a NYC quality experience, with Charleston charm. We will return soon.

We always make sure we dine at Husk and F.I.G. when we visit Charleston. During this stay, we decided to try Revival for the first time. The experience was excellent. The entire staff, especially our server Hayley, was friendly, helpful, professional and very proud of their restaurant. The restaurant was very low key and calm, a definite plus when compared to so many of the frantic, popular options in Charleston. It was very difficult to select our appetizer and entree as everything on the menu sounded enticing! We shared a small appetizer that included unbelievably fresh oysters surrounded by a delicate puff pastry circle.Rather than the usual bread or rolls we were offered a small container of crudites which included miniature radishes, green onion, asparagus and lovely carrot sticks, This was served with a very light homemade green goddess type dressing. The entree that followed was grouper fillet that was unbelievable. The grouper was cooked to perfection and it was served over a small field pea and corn cake. I am not exaggerating when I say that everything tasted as if was caught or harvested that day. We definitely plan to add it to our "Must Get Reservations!" trip list. This experience easily was the best dining during this visit.

Betty,
I have to say WOW for this awesome review. Thank you taking the time to share your thoughts of your experience. I am lucky to have a great team that appreciates everything we do and glad you witnessed that. Your review will help more guests that visit or are local to the city join us in the near future. The Puff Pastry is one of my favorite appetizers as well. Glad to be on your "Must Get Reservations" list and look forward to you next visit.

Do yourself a favor and request Melissa for your server - she takes her job seriously and will make your experience one you won’t forget. We dined on our last night in Charleston and our group of three was pleased with my selection.
Our table ordered
Cocktails of Old Fashioneds and Bloody Marys
2 of us ordered the Lowcountry Pirlou which was a combination of crispy rice, fresh local vegetables and seafood with just enough broth to marry all the seasonings but not enough to call it a soup - it was deliciously flavorful without being overly seasoned and while it doesn’t look like a large portion it is we both agreed that it was very filling in a good way
1 ordered the Filet Mignon and it too was cooked to perfection and seasoned nicely
Ala carte side chosen: creamed corn which was also raved about!
Deserts: Lemon Cream Cake & Key Lime Pie both fresh, perfectly presented and creamy
Again I cannot say enough about the Professional service provided by Melissa, I come from a large family of Fine Dine Waiters and could clearly see that she has perfected her craft and genuinely cares and strives hard to ensure that your experience is an excellent one in an atmosphere that is Modern and Elegant all while ensuring that our dining experience is 5 star minus any stuffiness... her lighthearted banter kept us laughing and relaxing on our last night in town - we love Charleston and all it has to offer.....really the service we received from Melissa ended a perfect week

I don’t give out 5 star ratings indiscriminately, but Revival deserves a 5+. It is one of the Vendu Hotel’s affiliated restaurants and provided the best dining experience we have had in Charleston. After some difficulty locating the valet service, we parked close by and were warmly welcomed the moment we entered the restaurant. The decor and furnishings exude a classy, but not stuffy vibe. Our server, CT, was very personable and gracious. He provided the type of service one should expect from a fine dining establishment, but seldom receive. His wine recommendations were spot on and complemented our selections perfectly. The little extra veggie appetizer was great and CT’s service was attentive without being intrusive. The highlights were the tasty beet salad, the tender and juicy grouper special, the 90% crab crab cakes, and their signature Lowcountry Pirlou. All the entrees arrived exquisitely presented and very warm, right out of the kitchen. All three of us agreed that Revival was the ultimate Charleston fine dining experience. The chef, manager, our server and hostess all thanked us for dining with them as we left. Though not inexpensive, it is a bargain for what you get. If you want an exceptional Charleston fine dining experience, look no further than Revival.
