Good Home Cooking

A good place to eat if you liked your mother’s cooking. We ordered blackened catfish, fried okra and hush puppies. Well cooked and savory. The catfish was soft and tasty. The hush puppies were served with a side of cinnamon butter. The prices were reasonable and the service very good.

Excellent Oyster Basket

The oysters had probably just been shucked as they were flavorful and fresh. I enjoyed the side of seafood chowder too. The service-not so much. It was a late lunch and there were few diners, but my husband had to get up from the table to search for the server so we could order. She left us twiddling our thumbs far too long after giving us our menus.

What a pearl in the oyster of Bluffton!

Let me start with Gaylia. She was the absolutely perfect server. She was friendly, engaging, cute sense of humor and knew the menu very well. She made great recommendations, thanked us for coming, and invited us to come back when we returned to Bel;uffton. Now to the food. Simply among the best fried shrimp I have ever had. Why? They were not coated with so much breading that it was all you could taste. I tasted shrimp. We also had the Oysters Rockefeller, and they were at the top of my list for the best ever. My wife had the fried oyster basket and said the same thing - light batter, so she tasted the delicious oysters. A surprising wine list for a small seafood restaurant. We will definitely go back!

We ordered a two item selection. Our server changed it to the more expensive 3 item. We had selected scallops and oysters Our appetizer was calamari..the rings were smaller than a wedding band and we returned, uneaten, that dish. The main dish contained 3, yes THREE scallops , and about six shrimp. What was represented as oysters were so small that they were shorter than the end of your pinky. At this point we were so disgusted that I didn’t even bother to we ate what was there paid the bill and will never return

Don’t waste your time and $$

I’m not sure where the 4 and 5 star reviews are from; maybe the staff? Or, people who really don’t know good seafood. First (and last) visit to Toomers with family and friends was a bad experience. The blackened Mahi Mahi was way over cooked; completely dried out. The collards had zero flavor and were nothing but stems and dried meat. The grits were made edible only by the sprinkling of cheese over the top. Our son’s fried shrimp tasted like ammonia. Not to mention it took ~ 40 minutes for the food to be served and none of us got our food at the same time. Truly a poor experience overall

Worse Restaurant in Bluffton

One of the worse dining experiences we've ever had. All of the starters and entrees had no flavor and not properly heated plus the server was bad as they come. We should have known better as every other restaurant in the area was busy except for here. Obviously there's no repeat business and we won't be back either. Waste of $100 for sure!!!

What a Disappointment

We went there today for lunch. We’re few customers. I should have known better. I will start with the good: the waitress Danielle was awesome. The she crab soup was finger licking good. End of story. I ordered the fried oysters thinking that they have an oyster company. The oysters were small in size like you would get it you ordered clams. All I could taste was breading. The rice and tomato side is tasteless rice with a cooked tomato on top. I wish our server would have warmed me. I don’t mind paying for a good meal but this was pricey without the quality to go with it.

Mostly Good

The food here is very good. It's restaurant week, so there were specials offered for this week only. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. The problem came with the kitchen. Each of our appetizers came out about 10 minutes apart. The she-crab soup, then 10 minutes later the raw oysters, then came shrimp cocktail after another 8 minutes, then clams after another 10 minutes. 4 of us were dining and we each got an appetizer. We thought that was very odd. Then two of the main courses came out immediately following the last two appetizers, followed by a 3rd 5 minutes later, and the 4th 8 minutes later. The last meal was supposed to come with shrimp, but after several attempts to get it, we gave up. Nothing huge to complain about, but the kitchen should probably get their act together. Overall I would still recommend this place. Below is a picture of what cluster oysters look like after you've opened them.

She crab soup was the best item we had. Gumbo didn’t have any discernible seafood in it. House salad had some black (old) lettuce, and was very plain, but the grilled shrimp on it was very good. Plate - scallops excellent, calamari ok, collards not good. Thought price was high for what we ordered.

The Beer Was Cold

After that everything went down hill. The fresh grouper which I question whether or not it was actually fresh catch was cooked beyond well done. The sides (macaroni and cheese) tasted like it can out of a box, the cheese grits were hard and cold, the collards were bland and the She Crab soup was a thick cold mess.

Good raw oysters but fair service.

She Crab soup and May River oysters on the half shell were very good. Baked oysters fair. Service was not very good even though we were around 2 in the afternoon when there weren't many customers.

Poor service

The service here was extremely poor. We left after waiting 50 minutes for our food. Turns out the server did not put in the order until 25 minutes after we ordered out food. The other server had food coming out to other tables for people that had sat down well after our arrival. Tired of waiting, we left, went to Captain Woodys. Great service at Captain Woodys.

Glad we asked at the Oyster House where the restaurant is located and tried it!

Excellent service and food. Exceeded our expectations. The quantity and quality of the good was exceptional. We ordered the seafood platter of steamed oysters, mussels, and shrimp and the platter of cod, shrimp and oysters with mashed red potatoes and collard greens. All excellent!

best evah shrimp

The shrimp was wonderful. The batter was very light and the shrimp was cooked just right. The portions were huge. We live in a seaport town so we have very high standards for seafood. Toomer's is now number 2 on my list, just below Jake's in Hull.

Not the REAL DEAL!

Food was expensive, not hot, was not in sync with my husband's. And when I did get mine, the fries arrived after I had finished my entree and slaw. Seafood was not fresh but must have come from food supply company. My husband is a great cook and he was so disappointed in his $38 meal!
