Excellent enchiladas BUT other dish not so good. The variety plate offered a bit of everything but not any variety. Burrito, enchilada and taco were all beef and huge portions -- a real waste and inedible. My dinner companion should have had the plate described to him but, despite the restaurant being quiet, the server spent no time at all with us. A variety plate might have included, for example, something different such as a cactus salad. Disappointing. ...

Good Mexican at a Fair Price.

Five for dinner at Agave. We started with nice beers and sangria (house). All fine. Two ordered salads and liked them very much. One went for fish tacos and reported them very good. My wife and the shrimp and scallop fajitas and loved them. I had the steak fajitas and they were very good. Portions were very large. My only complaint is one I have with most Mexican restaurants—they give you less than half the tortillas you will need to wrap your fajitas. On the other hand the beans and rice did not come completely covered with melted cheese, which I dislike. Service was efficient and friendly.

The service here was great. Its friendly atmosphere, nicely updated. However, for me, the food was not very good. The chips seemed old. The main meal just felt like it was lacking flavor. I will say, their salsa is good.

Alas, Agave isn’t the fantastic restaurant it used to be. Recently (2024) under new management, the quality of the food and service have plummeted. I wish I’d taken a photo of my meal last night: a plate awash with sauce, spilling over the edge. The food was mushy. This was a second chance. A few weeks ago, the molé sauce was not molé sauce. My companion and I have enjoyed many delicious meals here in the past, but neither of us enjoyed our recent meals. Makes me very sad. Agave used to be the best Mexican in town.

Here are a few suggestions for management, on how to improve customer experience: 1. Instead of cold stale chips (maybe from Costco or Walmart?), fry your own chips in house, and bring them to the table hot. 2. Thicken up that watery, insipid salsa and give it some authentic Mexican flavor. 3. Have a real vegetarian section on your menu, and put at least 4-5 good options there. Embrace the vegetarian movement, or be crushed by it.

Terrible margaritas, worse service

This place always seems to be fairly busy so we went in on a weeknight and sat at the bar since there were several family groups waiting for tables. There were about 6 other people at the bar and it took about 15 minutes to place our drink order despite a guy behind the bar the whole time, because he was chatting with two of the customers and ignoring everyone else. We were finally able to order two "specialty" margaritas from a different bartender who briefly appeared, but one had no flavor at all while the other was sickeningly sweet though it was described otherwise. After patiently waiting another 10 minutes with no server, we gave up and went down the street to La Nopalera where the drinks, food, and service are always good. I hope this was just a bad night but we won't be going back

This was my second visit to Agave. The first one was in the evening around September of 2021. I got Trio Enchiladas and my friend got a burrito. We both love Mexican food, but we were both disappointed with the lack of flavor in this. Yesterday for lunch, I got an avocado bowl with rice and beans. I chose the veggie option after being told it used quesadilla vegetables. The avocado on top of the large bowl was already brown. There was a big drizzle of something white on the top and I couldn't tell if it was sour cream because it had no flavor. There was rice in the bottom and very bland vegetables and black beans. This would normally be something I would enjoy, but it had absolutely no seasoning and no flavor. I tried adding salsa from my chips and salsa. The salsa also had no flavor, it's very thin and runny. They have an extensive menu and the decor is nice. I just expect more from the food and it's not there. I doubt I will go back.

Terrible Service - Rude Waiter

I’m still shocked by the rude service we received today. After waiting in the lobby for quite a while we were finally seated with menus and a bus boy brought us chips and salsa. After ten minutes with no greeting from any wait staff we began to look around for help. A waiter approached us and very rudely said - “You’ll have to wait because you sat yourselves and I’m busy”. We looked at each other in complete shock. We hadn’t seated ourselves, we had already been waiting ten minutes without a server. We quickly told the server we hadn’t seated ourselves but had been seated by another employee. He told us we’d just have to wait as he was too busy working at the bar to wait on us for a while. I have worked f&b for years, I put myself through college doing so. I understand being busy in a restaurant work environment. I have NEVER had a waiter be so blatantly rude to me. We immediately got up and left. We will certainly not be back and I will definitely tell others about our unfortunate experience at this restaurant. There is never an excuse to treat your customers this way. What an incredible disappointment. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.

The worst food I have ever had. The service was also terrible. I love Mexican food but this was the worst. My in-laws recommended this place to us but I don't think they know what good food is even if they are from NY.

Great staff. Loved our bartender/server. Food was really good. He custom made a margarita for me the way I like them. Was the only restaurant in the Beaufort area that we went back to twice! If you like Mexican, I think you'll be very happy with Agave.

This is much better than most American/Mexican restaurants. Their food is served hot and is very good. My wife and I both had chili rellenos and they were excellent. This was the day before Cinco de Mayo and they were very busy. I can't imagine what Cinco de May will be like. Very popular restaurant.

Great for couples and families alike. The food was very good and very generous portions. The drinks were generous as well. We all got something different and we all were very pleased with the meal and had plenty of leftovers. The service was a bit lacking but not so much as to be an issue. In general we had a very good meal and a very good time. We'd definitely go again when we visit Beaufort.

I worked late and decided to go have dinner at Agave. I checked the website before i left to see when they closed. They were scheduled to be open until 10:00 pm. I arrived at9:15 and was told they were closed even though there were other customers inside. Terrible customer service. I called to ask about why i was turned away on my way back to the hotel, and i was hung up on the phone call.

Excellent staff to welcome you Beautiful terrace & deco outside . Clean inside w/ lot of space. The food is excellent, they have excellent drinks. I never went to Mexico but at Agave I could feel the vibe : excellent

We've been to Agave numerous times. The staff is super friendly, extremely hardworking and takes a lot of pride in their restaurant and food. The portions are huuuge, so think about sharing - or taking some home for later. I ordered a sampler platter and it was enough food for three people! Not that I minded!
