The Belgian sandwiches are reminders of our several trips to Ghent, Brussels, Leuven and Westport. Crepes are a speciality of the house.....try them.

Service was fine - prompt, pleasant. Crepes were terrific, We had traditional (butter, brown sugar and maple syrup), Normand (apples inside) and blueberry. The apples were cut in small thin pieces and lightly browned before being placed in the crepe. All came with confectioners sugar on top. All three were yummy. I've also had the chocolate hazelnut, which was a... More

Reminds me of European cafe. Depends on how busy they are you may have to next to other customers( long tables). Also, you may have to wait because orders are only prepared at the time of ordering.

Sunday morning decided to venture to Van Ghent for breakfast. The place was busy but some tables were open. The waitress was definitely stressed out over the Sunday morning crowd. The eatery was definitely not prepared today to handle a regular breakfast crowd. Very disappointed, waitress kept apologizing. The eatery definitely needs more than one waitress. Not impressed.

We happened upon this old world restaurant while walking through town. It's a lovely European feel with printed tablecloths and pictures of Gent on the walls. The food from crepes to waffles to fried eggs is delicious. The service is friendly and attentive. Enjoy this little gem.

Eating at Van Ghent's is like eating at a friend's house. Ebba, the owner of this wonderful place, has created a lovely atmosphere with a taste of Belgium. She creates wonderful crepes both sweet and savory and homemade Belgium waffles. I had the crepes smothered with delicious fresh fruit and powdered sugar. She also makes eggs and omelets, sandwiches and... More

This was our second time at Van Ghent for crepes. Beau and I like this different little spot tucked in the corner in downtown Westerly. It's very charming with an old European flair mixed with a heavy reference to the Grateful Dead (be sure to check out the bathrooms while you visit). Crepes are not a typical menu item on... More

Went into this place because I was looking for a good cup of coffee and then realized it was a restaurant and decided to have breakfast. I wish I hadn't. I had crepes and they were ok. I have had much better. I ordered a cup of cappuccino and it was the the worst I have ever tasted! It tasted... More

My wife and I enjoyed a nice late breakfast in downtown Westerly today. My wife had the vegetarian omelette with toast and I had the Belgium waffle. They definitely have the best waffle maker this side of Belgium. The food was prepare to perfection and the quality was very good. So get your eyes off your phone or tablet and... More

The word "sandwich" in the Van Ghent Cafe name might limit what you think is possible (always a bad idea). We came looking for breakfast (the sign offered coffee and crepes and Belgian waffles). We hadn't counted on such a wonderful experience. We met the chef/owner, who has gone to Belgium herself to update the original owners' recipes. The room... More
