We love the Valley Inn! They have the very best pizza! Service is friendly and quick. The owner will tell you the history of the establishment which is very interesting. We have never had a bad meal. The environment is "different" but get by that...and the food, service, and pricing can't be beaten. Strongly recommend!More

We have been going here for at least 8 years. We live in town and it's one of our "go to" places with our friends. The food and drinks are fantastic! And if you love cosmopolitans, ask if Joe can make yours....the BEST around! Love...that entrees come with a stuffed quahog, salad or soup and your meal! So much food! If your first impression is that the building looks dated, or the interior design needs a little updating, look past it and enjoy the great food and service they have to offer. You will not regret it! And the entertainment most weekends is a huge plus!!!More

We have been wanting to try The Valley Inn for a while and it finally worked out on New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, a limited menu was offered and that eliminated some items we'd been wanting to try, but instead we got two filet mignon dinners...that were exceptional. The service was top notch (complete with the owner checking on tables, obviously showing concern for all his guests' satisfaction) and the setting in a supposedly-haunted old mansion was an added plus. We can't wait to return on a normal business day and check out some other meals.More

I was referred here from a coworker and was told the story about Rebecca so thought is was fitting to come in October on the way to Maine since we stopped in Newport. The place was packed and even though we finally got a table...we were told we couldn’t even order the food for over an hour until the kitchen caught up. Tables were available so maybe they were short staffed. We left disappointed and ate elsewhere as we could not wait wait that long and the wait time changed again once I came from the rest room. So I ended up coming back through a week later and made reservations on the drive there. It’s very rustic and old inside. I felt if you didn’t order alcohol the Mgr or owner walking around was done with you as he only spoke to those who ordered wine and drinks. We never even got a refill or was offered one as I hardly saw our waitress. We both ordered pasta. I ordered the penne with creamy vodka sauce and my husband ordered the meat sauce with penne. Although the pasta was cooked perfectly the meal was just ok. My Italian husband didn’t care for the meat sauce at all which I tried and although I’m sure there was a blend of meats , you could not pin point what exactly it was and didn’t taste good at all. I was very disappointed with mine. It was hands down the worse penne with vodka sauce I ever had. It was not even creamy at all. No blush sauce nothing. There was no heavy cream. It was chunky canned tomatoes with every herb they could find in the kitchen. Basil, thyme, oregano and chunks of garlic. It literally tasted ok but definitely not penne with vodka sauce. I only ate half. Didn’t want it to go as I was headed to a hotel and didn’t plan on eating it. It was the most expensive penne with vodka sauce I ever ordered and that included little Italy in NY and it was not made correctly. Wrong ingredients. Wrong texture. Maybe I’m spoiled because I’m from NJ where we have great Italian food. There was no way I would order their pizza from the looks of it either. AGAIN. I am from New Jersey where we have great Pizza also. The clam casino was ok that comes with the meal but they ask if you want it. The salad the came with the meal would have been great as it had tomatoes, onions, peppers, mushrooms but the romaine lettuce was the dark green wrinkly outside part with the black spots which was so old and soggy I could not finish it. I ate all except most of the lettuce. My fork could not even pick it up it was so soft. Most places throw that part away or at least mix a little in with the romaine hearts. I told the waitress but she just took the plate and walked away. Again no refills and no one really cared about the food. She didn’t even ask me if I wanted a box or if I wanted the pasta to go. Which was fine but I felt She had to of known that was but even close to what I ordered. Overpriced food that was not even made right or good. So disappointing!! I guess it was a sign the first night. Wish I never went back a week later. I was mad for an entire day that I wasted my hard earned money there. I saved a while for this New England road trip!! Never again.More

We went during the week so there wasn't many people there plus slow season is starting. They said it gets packed on weekends with locals. We had a pizza which was great and shared a salad with salmon which was moist and tasty. We also...shared the chateaubriand which was pricy but enough for 3 people, very tender beef, asparagus and great mashed potatoes. We also got 2 stuffies and 2 sides so we had the french onion soup which was probably the best I have ever tasted and a salad. We plan to go back and try the steak sandwich and other items on the menu.More

The service was excellent! The food was good, nothing special but good. We had a table by the fireplace which I thought to be quite romantic as this was my boyfriend's birthday. Been by this place a number of times and always wanted to try...it. Well, I would definitely recommend it and would go back. I would like to try other things on the menu. They also had an acoustic guitar player which I would've have like to stick around for but we had other plans.More

we love to go here. I love the great onion soup which is my favorite soup. I get a nice steak dinner and If they have one on special I will go with that as it is never bad. My wife will get a fish...dinner again if it is on special or else she will go with whatever she likes on the menu. A really nice friendly place and the service is good. It has been a bit slower than most times but I note they have less staff which can be due to Covid. not their fault. Everyone is haviing the same problems now. But the food is great and you can relax and no one pushes you to hurry up. good parking and the place is super clean. good for the entire family.More

After not being able to get into fancy Newport restaurants (or not paying their prices) we went to Valley Inn. We had a lovely meal at reasonable prices. I would have given 5 stars but service was spotty and the menu needs to have more...clarification- like the mushrooms on the Steak au poivre or the pepper on the sirloin with mushroom sauce or sausage in a “vegetable “ soup. But the food was good. We’d come backMore

My wife and I were taken here by some local friends. They have entertainment on Saturday nights and all the locals know about it and show up. These two musicians are great. The antipasto for 2 is large enough to split 4 to 6 ways...and it was very good. The pizza was average flat pizza, large but with crust of cardboard(not so good). The steak sandwich is a whole steak placed on two texas toast buns, WOW. But the reason to come here is for the local color and entertainment.More

WAY off the beaten Newport-tourist track in farthest Portsmouth, this place is a throwback to the 50's and 60's in terms of the decor, the music, and even the menu. Very friendly service. Get a reservation if you can, because it gets packed with the...locals. Very varied food selections, from pizza to steak to Italian comfort food and local specialties (quahogs, of course), all prepared in generous portions and clearly from fresh ingredients. The Antipasto "for two" was enough for four. Good wine list, with very competitive prices; excellent bar for mixed drinks; NO DRAFT BEER (!!!!) when we were there. Lots of kids and families in addition to couples and groups of friends. The building is a converted stone barn, so decor is very rustic.More
