While waiting to enjoy the Rail Explorers we stopped at the Gulf Stream for lunch. Excellent lunch, clean, friendly, efficient staff, and peaceful. Parking is hard to find but with some patience it will happen. Also if you arrive before it gets busy, its no...problem. We sat outside on the deck, nice experience and pet friendly. I had the Debris sandwich and it was sooo good. Two other people in my party had the Blackened Salmon BLT. Salmon cooked perfectly and moist. The other person in my party had the Arugula Salad. All the food was fresh and well prepared. The staff was friendly and efficient.More

Just love sitting in a working marina and enjoying wonderful food and drinks. It doesn't get any better.

Tried this place during a stay at Safe Harbor (New England Boatworks). We didn't know that there was a restaurant on-premise, but we'd GLADLY make a trip just to go to this place. The owners are super nice and are working the floor right alongside...the regular staff. One of the owners (and the Chef) has built a menu with a lot of southern influence. Everything we tried was excellent, but we were particularly happy with the reasonably sized portions. Too often we see restaurants oversizing and then throwing out a lot of food. These guys hit that balance between value and portion size perfectly. Most importantly though, is the dog friendly aspect of the place. They have a whole menu JUST FOR DOGS!!!! My little beagle had some bones and a bacon cheese burger for dinner (no bun)! They also have doggie desserts and doggie specific beverages. I can always tell if I'll like a person by the way they interact with my dogs... these are some GREAT people. Thank you Gulf Stream! We'll be back soon :)More

Had a decent lunch here and the service was ok too. The hardest part was actually finding the restaurant! Nothing spectacular or different but good nonetheless. I'd go back again.

We really like the food because it's not cookie cutter but if you want something straight-forward it's here as well. Very reliable and good options no matter what you're in the mood for. I'm also writing because we had a great server tonight. Ashley. She...was engaging and high energy and helpful. She's a great asset to the restaurant.More

Three out of a party of 5 had fish and chips. Fish was fair but the portions of chips and coleslaw (in a ketchup cup)was very small. Did not have a very large selection of anything. Not impressed.

Another great recommendation by our hotel! Right in the marina. If it wasn’t pouring rain outside it would have been a great view of the marina. The staff was so friendly and helpful with suggestions. Get the Bloody Mary! It’s spicy but delicious.

This is a hidden gem. Food was amazing. Service was excellent. Sarah who served as bartender and waitress made our experience exceptional. She was attentive, made fabulous drinks and recommended some great eats. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you Sarah for all you...do particularly when so many establishments are short staffed. Excellent food, service and atmosphere.More

Made a reservation for party of 3. Requested outside. When arrived, told the empty outside tables for 4 were for "larger parties" (i.e. 4). Food took forever, which is normal in this day and age. Then had to wait awhile to request condiments once meal...came. Food is fine but probably not worth the effort.More

It's not a bad place, but I won't be eager to return. The location is on the water, but unfortunately a lot of their outside dining faces the parking lot or buildings. On a July Sunday at lunch time they were busy, and appeared a...but understaffed .... but I know that's common this year. The server was cheerful and efficient. But lunch was ... just OK. Not bad, but not better than 'OK." Hush puppies were pleasant enough, but the clam chowder was seriously short on clams - and seriously overpriced, too. The burger just didn't have a fresh appearance and was startlingly bland. The fries were pretty good, but at the end of the meal I had to conclude the bill was just too high for Appleby's-level cuisine. Again, not bad: we finished our lunches, and nobody was complaining. But no one seemed particularly pleased, either. I wouldn't refuse to go back, but I sure wouldn't make a special trip to do it.More

We ate before going on the Rail Explorers down the road. We sat outside.. Nice view of the boats in the marina. Staff was very friendly, service was great. After reading other reviews, tried the hush puppies- very good. Didn't care for the dipping sauce...with it, but loved them plain. We both had clam chowder-a Generous bowl and delicious. I had fish and chips, which was very good. My husband had the debris sandwich and said it was good..not great, but good. Overall, very pleased with our dinner and only a 2 minute drive back to Rail Explorers.More

The last dinner of our recently concluded 7-night vacation was at this restaurant that overlooks a shipyard. We started off by sharing their eponymous calamari (flash fried rings tossed in a light cream sauce with hot cherry peppers and chorizo). These were good, but a...little on the chewy side. This is not a gourmet restaurant by any stretch so my wife wisely chose fish & chips for an entree. I went a tiny bit rogue by ordering the Bermuda fish chowder. Mine included both a shot of rum and a sherry peppers sauce that I judiciously added to the otherwise mediocre hake-based chowder.More

We were camping in the area and my husband uses google earth to find locations for food (yes, he's a wicked foody). We knew we were eating out Saturday and I had concentrated my efforts on Newport, which was a bad idea as everything was...crazy busy! So we ended up going to The Gulf Stream as it was close to our campground and we were NOT disappointed! They had hushpuppies on the appetizer menu and they were phenomenal! We don't see a lot of restaurants up North that offer hushpuppies and they totally dominated the ones we were used to getting in South Carolina. The dipping sauce had an awesome kick to it, The staff were super friendly, our waitress (Ashley) was super attentive to us and took good care of us. I had the tacos (with the beef) and hubby had the mussells and we did NOT leave there hungry. We will go back again!!More

We were extremely lucky to get a table on Mother's Day. The cocktail called the "painkiller" was awesome. The brunch.....uuummm not so much. We had the pork belly bowl: sweet potato tots (from frozen) fried pork belly pieces and an over cooked fried eggs over...top. Fried calamari was ok.More
