We purchased some seafood to cook and some already prepared items to take back to a time share in Newport. Everything was very good quality. It was worth the ride.

If it were possible to give ratings on individual items, we would. The Clam Chowder was an absolute five as it was well made and really delicious. Everything else, unfortunately was a two. I had the Clam Strips and unfortunately, the oil used to fry...those strips was old as you could taste the oil when eating them. Since my husband does not like seafood, he had a double cheeseburger and that, too, was just ordinary. We were not expecting much from the latter as this is a seafood place, but we had hoped it would be on par with the other reviews. Unfortunately, in our case, it was not. Clam Chowder yea, the rest was nay.More

This restaurant is run by a great family that's been in the seafood business for many years now. It's probably being run by a third or fourth generation. Great place.

We loved Anthony’s especially the friend scallops, flounder and cod. It was highly recommended by the lady at the front desk of our hotel. We loved the fried scallops, founder and cod. We also loved the raw oysters, so fresh. We highly recommend going to...this restaurant if you’re in Newport, RI. We would definitely go back. We highly recommend it and would definitely come back again. The staff were so friendly and accommodating.More

Been here many times - Its our go-to seafood stop in Newport. BUT after our recent visit we'll be looking for something else. Everything was good but not great like it used to be. Clam cakes way over cooked. Scallops/shrimp/oysters/fish under fried, Chowder was a...miss - runny, unseasoned. Likely just a bad chef day but darn put people in the kitchen that want to work there. If this wasn't takeout we would have returned half the meal.More

Haven’t visited Anthony’s since the restaurant shut down during the Pandemic. Stopped in yesterday to get some take-out Clear Broth Clam Chowder, first time in months. What a disappointment! It was potato broth with a few chopped up clams and spices. Nothing like it used...to be pre-pandemic. They need to cut way back on potato, and in smaller pieces, and chop up Clams in larger bites so you can recognize and taste them. Pay attention to the finished product! So sorry to write this review, they’ve had great seafood in the past. Got to get back into the pre-pandemic menu and customer expectations!More

We were taken here by friends for a late afternoon snack. Since we hadn’t had the southern New England style (no milk/cream) of clam chowder, we decided to try it here. We were skeptical since it seemed like it would be thin or less interesting...compared to the northern style. But we were very pleasantly surprised! The clam flavor really came through and we could have eaten several bowls of it. Highly recommended!More

This place is a market that serves food also. The lobster roll had rave reviews so we made this our first lobster roll stop. The food was good, but honestly not great. We all agreed the lobster roll lacked flavor. Mom's fish and chips were...soggy, not crunchy. The staff were less than friendly. We were a bit disappointed.More

I read an article on "Best Lobster Rolls Nearby restaurants.after a couple of weeks decided to try Anthony's Seafood, Portsmouth, R.I. AWe went This past Friday 9/17/2021. I had the Lobster roll and was very, very dissappointed. The Lobster was tasteless, the lettuce on bottom...of roll has slices of lettuce and the roll was soggy. There was alot of Lobster in it and looked like mostly Claws meat.. It had no taste. Not sure they mixed it with anything or even put mayonaise on the roll. There was nothing except meat and lettuce that i could tell. The cost was $24,00 which even made it more dissappointing. I have had rolls before at other places and the meat was sweet and tasty, not like this was..along with this being chewy..I actually had to spit a large hunk of claw meat because it was tough. I do look at Tripadviser reviews for mosts restaurants and we did on this one too, but based on the Article which claimed these were the best places for Lobster Rolls we chose this one. Not because of the Tripadviser ReviewMore

If my husband and I knew how awesome the food was here, we would have made it here at least one more time. Restaurant isn't open everyday. Managed to get there our last night in R.I. Order carefully, because portions are huge. We had fried...clams & fried oysters. I had fried cod dinner & he had fried flounder dinner. Too much. Coleslaw excellent! Service was pretty quick. Got there end of day, it wasn't crowded. Appreciated person taking order wore mask. We ate outside. I'd suggest bug spray. A little buggy, but not bad. Servers friendly, place clean, portions huge and prices reasonable. If ever in R.I, again would deff return!!More

After visiting 2nd beach in Middletown we decided to give Anthony a try for it's famous seafood. There's a twist on dinning option, instead of take out orders we can also find our own table inside or outside of the restaurant to enjoy our meal....I decided on clam chowder & fish taco. Both were done to perfection especially chowder was hot & creamy, loaded with tender bite of clams. I will come back in the future for other dishes on the menuMore

There are many seafood options in and around the Newport/Middletown area. But as with most tourist-driven towns, it can be difficult to decide which are actually good and which are tourist traps. We were staying in the Middletown area and had NOT had our seafood...fix yet. We knew many popularly reviewed places were back toward the Wharf and did not care to drive in that direction only to drive back (probably hitting traffic both ways). I was glad I googled the area and was able to find Anthony’s. It was only about 5 minutes or so from our hotel and they closed at 8 pm on a Friday. I arrived there at about 7 PM ish to grab some take out to bring back to the hotel. The parking lot seemed on the fuller side, but there were still spaces available. I would imagine Friday night would be one of their busier nights. There are some tables and seating outdoor in front of the space. You enter into the seafood market, which was already closed at that time. The market was big and seemed to have (from their price lists and signs) lot of options. You then wait in line (of there is one at the time) for your turn to order. Once you reach the counter, you order whatever you want. They have a variety of seafood items: shrimp, fish, scallops, clam strips, lobster rolls..etc...as well as a variety of beverage (alcoholic and non). Once you order, they will give you a number. You then take that number and sit where you want. You can stay there and eat at an empty table, or take it to go. There are some benches where you can sit and wait for your food but also a few tables around including a separate room, off to the side, with tables and seating. After about 10-15 minutes or so, my food was ready. They currently have a small table off to the side with plastic utensils, straws and napkins. The family was pleasantly surprised when I brought the food back to the hotel...everything was super fresh and tasted great. Perfectly fried, not overdone and well seasoned. I want to mention that all staff there were very efficient. They were hustling to get things done, all while being friendly and patient with customers, which can sometimes be hard to balance. The prices also seemed to be very reasonable compared to other seafood places in the area. I would love to return when the market is opened to get a few things to take home to cook. I highly recommend Anthony for any seafood lover...don't be fooled by the other surrounding tourist traps! Anthony's is the real deal!More

went with my wife and her friend to Anthony's and it is even better than the other times I have gone a few years ago. Inside seating and a few tables outside. You get in line to order and go to your table. They give...you a number to put on the table.and they bring your food to you in to go containers. I got the flounder and chips which was great. Our friend got the fish taco's which was huge and she said outstanding. I went to the fridge section while waiting and got a container of shrimp.Fresh, large and great. So all in all this is a great place to stop. They have a large parking lot which is filled up most of the time but you will find a place to park. Great for the entire family. and they have a full seafood market as well.so you know your fish meal is as fresh as can be. Outstanding place to go. Worth the ride.More

Creamy NE clam chowder was fantastic, the RI style clam chowder was...even better! Stuffies were top ten food experience in my life (stuffed quohog clam). RI style calamari was crispy and delicious with hot peppers and marinara sauce.and fried shrimp were great! Would go there every week if I lived nearbyMore

Hi Anthony's Seafood is first come fist serve and the line usually moves quickly. My favorite is the 1/2 order of fried clams and Portuguese Fish Chowder. Enjoy
