Me and a guest went to brunch at Leon's. The atmosphere was great, a small cafe with great music and art work on the walls. The place was busy so we were expecting a great brunch.
Our waitress came to the table and instantly we...realized she was in a bad mood. No smile and what she said seemed rehearsed. My guests asked for milk instead of cream with their tea and got a "Okk???" We tend to ignore those things if everything else goes well.
We waited for our brunch which was ok we are never in a hurry however when we got our brunch everything was burnt. I got the platter with eggs, toast which was their house made focaccia with thyme, their hash, sausage, thick cut bacon, and potatoes. The eggs and toast was great (more on that soon) but the bacon was way overcooked; was like I was eating shoe leather. As someone who works in the industry as a chef, I knew that is was left on too long. The sausage was undercooked (pink in the middle) the potatoes were almost smashed and hardly any texture and the hash was more burnt then not. My guest had the special waffle which was also a bit overdone and not able to just cut with a fork. We were asked how it was and before we answered she was walking away.
At the end I really loved their bread and saw on a menu previously that they sold it by the loaf. I asked to purchase one. I heard the waitress go ask the chef then some mumbling to which i was told they didn't have enough because they also use it in the restaurant. They are closed the next few days so I knew that this was all because they didn't want to make more for wednesday. If you offer to sell it on the menu, you should sell it and if not have a sign in your door saying that you are sold out.
The plus is there was this male waiter who offered us more tea and more to drink when our waitress did not and was very pleasant.
I think they have a great concept but needs to work more on their customer service. I understand if some dishes come out burnt or sometimes there are problems but for my guests waffle to be burnt and 3 out of 5 things on my plate to be burnt and the customer service and to end with not being able to buy something you say you sell, is disappointing. Again, working in the food industry I know some things go wrong but with the waitress also not being enjoyable, it made the whole experience kind of lackluster.More
