Service was good, food ok, but way overpriced. We paid $38 for eight average sized scallops with salad and crappy fries; and $48 for a dry 8 oz filet mignon with salad and microwaved baked potato…food was far from outstanding. At these prices we wont...be giving it a second try.More

It had been almost 2 years since we saw our old friends and the meal experience was ruined by our server Connie. We were asked to leave immediately after finishing our meal, because the people who had reservations after us for the table we were...seated at were waiting. There were multiple empty tables around us, but these people had reservations for our table. We had dined at The Paddock many times before and never been insulted like this before. We have dined in restaurants around the country and never experienced anything like this before. The only upside of this experience was spending time with our old friends. Gene and Judy TysonMore

Went with a party of 7 and service was very good. I asked if their crab meat was from Maryland or at least domestic. Our waitress replied that they only used Maryland crab. I am from the Chesapeake Bay Area and have been eating blue...crabs for 65 years. The crabmeat was horrible and was not domestic much less from Maryland. Disgusting they try to pass off this junk from Venezuela or the Philippines that’s not even blue crab. Never going back. At least be honest when you’re charging $30 for a crab cake!! ,More

I had pasta with shrimp and crab. The shrimp were large, 5 of them, and there was ample crab. It was with a blush sauce that was very bland. Hubby ordered lobster and crab Mac and cheese, again, very bland. At the table next to...us, the man ordered a filet and commented he can make one better than what he was served. It is somewhat pricey and really not worth it. They do not have a wine list and they only house wine is Woodbridge. Really? This is one of the least expensive wines you can get, plus it’s not that good, especially if you enjoy wine. I asked if that was all they had and told yes. However, we decided to order dessert and I commented with a chocolate dessert I really wish they had a better red wine. All of a sudden the server said, oh, we also have Josh! I asked why when I first asked before dinner about wine I wasn’t told about this. She said, oh, it just came in. What, it arrived while we were eating?!? There are other, much better restaurants in York. The service was good, except for the misinformation on the wine.More

My wife and I were in York recently for the biannual York Train Meet and went to dinner one evening at the Paddock, as it seemed to be an upscale restaurant and was rated #4 in the York area. We had made a reservation and...arrived on time. The parking lot was full, so we parked on the street. We were promptly seated at a small table for two along the back window facing the parking lot. There was an immediate problem. It was a very chilly evening, but for some reason, the air conditioning was on and my chair was right next to a floor vent which was blowing cold air onto me. There was no need for A/C on such a chilly night. If anything, the heat should have been on, but there was really no need for either, and certainly no need for A/C. It was bizarre. I politely asked the server to please turn off the air conditioning or at least turn it way down, but she said there was nothing she could do about it, because it was controlled automatically. Frankly, I was not at all convinced by her answer. There was also no offer to move us to another table. The best I could do was place a menu over the vent and hold it down with my foot, while wearing the heavy sweatshirt I wore to the restaurant the rest of the time we were there. Strike 1. We then attempted to order a bottle of wine, or glasses of wine other than the cheap house wines, which all came from the same winemaker, as Paddock's online and actual menus indicated that the had such wines available. However, to our surprise, we were told by the server that they only had wines by the glass, and they were all the house wines. What a bummer and it was very misleading advertising as well. My wife then ordered a glass of house wine. I decided to order a draft beer and asked our server to review their draft list, but she told me that they had no such list. She then rattled off the draft beers they had at a brisk pace that was a challenge to process. I ordered an IPA. Strike 2. We both ordered, starter salads, the Haddock entrees - with extra lemons, and some dinner sides. The vegetables in the salads were blah, although the dressing was pretty good. The entrees arrived before we were finished our salads, a no-no. That should never happen in a good restaurant. The pieces of haddock were huge and too big for even me to finish, and I never leave food on the table. My wife was barely able to eat half of hers, and I ate about 2/3 of mine. The fish was delicious, but what a waste to have to throw out nearly a whole entree. The server should have let us know in advance that the portions of haddock were huge, and we then would have ordered only one. Also, the lemons we had ordered were not delivered with the entree. May seem like a small point, but it is a pet peeve of mine. The sides that came with our meals were barely warm, and were just OK, nothing special. Strike 3. The experience we had was nothing like what we expected. With all of the issues we experienced, notably mediocre food and substandard service, there is no way that this restaurant could possibly be the #4 restaurant in York. Needless to say, we will never return.More

The Paddock has become one of our favorite "special places." We've been there a dozen times for special occasions and always have been treated very well by staff as well as provided with exceptional quality food, beautifully presented. Today was no exception. Sadly, we will...be moving from the area next month, so we took a bit of extra time while there, to enjoy the restaurant which we have come to love. If it weren't for the move, I imagine we would be returning again and again for many years to come. To the Paddock staff--thank you for taking such good care of us over the years. Godspeed.More

Traveling for business and dining alone I prefer the bar where I can watch TV and maybe have some conversation with the barmaid or other solo travelers. The restaurant was very busy for a Wednesday night in my opinion. Always a good sign for good...food. I enjoyed a Crabcake Sandwich at the bar with a couple of cocktails. The barmaid was always moving keeping up with a busy bar and orders from the waitresses. She did make time for light conversation during her few free moments. Good Food, Nice Bar, Great Atmosphere. Would definitely go again. Parking can be challenging, but not impossible. Recommended.More

They are getting to the point where they think pretty highly of themselves. Have been a steady customer for years. Food is very good, you pay fir it and service doesn’t warrant adding a tip to party of 5 or more. If you are good...enough people will pay. Also started adding a 15% gratuity to take out orders??? Again, 10% for answering the phone and bagging an order ok, not 15%. Understand what the last year has been but don’t try and make it up all at once. You lost a long time steady customer..More

We stopped at The Paddock en route from Virginia to PA yesterday for a late lunch/early dinner. To be honest, we have not dined indoors in over a year and this was the first time. We wanted a break and a nice meal and fast...food in the car was just not going to cut it. We are both vaccinated and while we aren't planning to make a habit of indoor dining yet, I was surprised at how comfortable I was. The place (including rest rooms) was spotless, and while we were only about 3 feet from the nearest table of guests, it was an off time (about 2:30) and it was not crowded. We had cocktails which were delicious and well-made, cream of crab soup, and fried oysters, which were absolutely wonderful, not inexpensive at $27, but the quality was fantastic. Our servers were young but efficient, polite, and very pleasant. Really no complaints with the dining experience and we will return when we are in the area again. Food was excellent. A 20% gratuity was added to our bill, with which I have no problem. In these tough times with reduced restaurant capacity, I am glad to see a place taking care of its waitstaff to ensure they are still making a living wage, or as close as possible.More

We made reservations and even with the mask wearing and social distancing requirements, were very pleased. Food was excellent from scallops to steaks, baked potato to soup and everything else in between, all served hot and as requested. Their onion rings were the best I've...ever had. Kids loved the match stick fries. Definitely will return and highly recommend.More

First time we visited and we enjoyed one of the best seafood meals. Celebrating a special occasion and happy of our choice of locations and the meal was superb. Our server was outstanding and did a fantastic job of checking in with us on a...regular basis and wanting to refill our water. Now this could be because it increases automatic tip. However, she was a great customer service representative of The Paddock. While I understand the many guidelines and restrictions placed on restaurants by the Governor, I am not sure this location is following all or just ones that increase revenue. Not looking for a response with attitude, please. I do not understand the water issue when serving other beverages direct in a plastic cup, but not interested to debate the $2. The big concern was when a group of 3 ladies were seated at the table directly beside us and one person was seated about 3 feet from me. I was not comfortable with this decision and did not relax to end our meal. Not a positive end of the very great Paddock experience. We do plan on returning in the future. However, will ask for specific table that is further away from others. The 20% automatic gratuity was not an issue as we always give at least that when we receive the type of service we received at the Paddock.More
