I spent a few years coming to the Jazz. It was the only bar I loved. I spent my 21st birthday here, and many more memorable evenings. Some of my best friend's bands performed at the Jazz over the years. The venue is a decent...sized place to see local and small touring acts. In the last few years the venue has come under new management, which has not always made the best decisions. In an attempt to broaden the appeal of the venue, cover charges, drink prices and food prices all rose in a short period of time. New staff did not reflect the vibe which made the Jazz so popular among its regulars. It appeared that the staff was less interested in appealing to the hippies and free thinking locals who were a mainstay of the club, in favor of middle class, well dressed yuppies out for a dinner with music. Criticism aside, the Jazz remains a decent place to see music in the Wyoming Valley. By NEPA standards, it is pricey, and therefore not your daily bar but a place to go to see musical acts. It ain't what is used to be, but its ok.More

Totally enjoyed watching a show at the Jazz Cafe. Perfect venue. Definite plus is the PBR pounders 😉

My fiancé and I were in Wilkes-barre for an event. When we asked the locals what to do, no one had any suggestions. The River Street Jazz Cafe was a hidden gem we stumbled upon by driving past. How did no one recommend this place?!...The live entertainment was incredible and brought in the friendliest crowd, the atmosphere was perfect, the food was delicious, great selection of really good martinis, and excellent beer list and a super friendly and helpful staff! We had so much fun here and would go back again if we're ever back in the area!More

went for dinner after hearing they changed up their kitchen staff and called the place Guasto's at the Jazz. I used to stay away from the place because it was full of stoned kids every time, and the place was filthy the last time I...attended a show. Let me say this time: WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE. The place is clean! The bathrooms don't smell like hippy puke anymore. We ordered an eggplant appetizer, salads, and tuna/seafood lasagne entrees. The eggplant was amazing. Reminded me of my grandma's. The salads were perfectly portioned. The Tuna I had was unbelievably fresh and incredibly flavorful. My wife's seafood lasagne was amazing. The service was attentive and quick, and the prices were lower than what I've paid in multiple cities across the globe, usually for lesser-quality meals. This place has a lot of potential now that they don't charge $20 for walking through the door to hear a band only 14 people have ever heard of. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town.More

We went to dinner and wanted something different - a scenic restaurant and some place to relax from driving earlier in the day. The bartender/waitress was cheerful and welcoming. She made a fabulous drink too!! We ordered a burger, a salad, and the hummus plate...to share. All we phenominal!! The burger my husband ordered had gouda cheese and a crab cake on it! Awesome!! Delish!! Got a few great photos of a train traveling on a bridge across the river. We left fat and happy - and a bit tipsy from a few great cocktails! Hatos off to you at the River cafe. Cheers! We will be back again!More
