Entrees are a little pricey, but we went for happy hour and had a really good time! Happy hour prices were a very good deal, and the drinks were delicious!! I’d recommend the spinach artichoke dip and the Dodge cocktail! It was also a very...nice environment, being a mixture of students and wealthy people.More

Highly overrated in my opinion. Seating not good for two as well as poor lighting in our small booth near the bar. My prime rib sandwich was about what you would get at WaWa. WaWa calls it what is and for much less. Had a...great waiter named Yusef. He was top drawer. If they want business, they better make the restaurant more dominant by signs, lights or whatever. If you want to spend $18.00 on a hamburger be my guest.More

Made reservations for an early dinner at 5 PM. Arrived at 445. The hostess took us to our table which was exactly 5 feet from an extremeley loud bar located in the middle of the restaurant. I asked to be moved to another location and...was informed that the only tables for two people in the entire restaurant were the tables adjacent to the bar and that the other approximately 35 tables in this large (and very beautiful) restaurant were for parties of three or more. I expressed dismay that this restaurant was laid out in such a way that there is no way a couple could have a relaxing dinner without the very loud noise of a large bar just a few feet away. The hostess agreed that this was "unfortunate" and that this "is a common complaint" but there was nothing she could do. Such a shame. So we spent our $120 for several small plates and some wine (good food) but left disappointed and certainly not relaxed as we had to yell to have a conversation. Unfortunately, this bizarre layout and seating policy will never bring us back.More

I loved the Refectory. Owned by Villanova University in Partnership with the group that owns Tredici in Bryn Mawr, the combo is working out terrifically. Right at Ithan and Lancaster in the Heart of The University, it has a terrific menu and everyone around our...table loved their lunch orders. Atmosphere was energetic and chic. And the wine list was very nice. Great place to skip in and enjoy a glass and an appetizer or sit down for a full meal. Parking is great too, they validate for the new University Garage which is right across the street. We’ll be there a lot!More

The worst thing about The Refectory is finding it. Its sign is virtually invisible at night and the exterior doesn't look like a restaurant, so we wandered a bit. Lucky for us a friendly 'Nova student told us where to find it: on the first...floor of the new dorm building at the southwestern corner of Lancaster and Ithan. We made it in time to settle in at one of the freestanding bar "islands" for a long wait for our table, because this place is already very popular and earlier diners didn't want to leave. Happily, management was attentive and sent us some complimentary appetizers when we finally got seated. Service is skilled and friendly, the décor is stylish in a traditional wood-and-brass way, and the food overall is very good. The best dishes were the spicy crab and avocado taquito and the chop salad. The tuna poke bowl was a particularly ample serving, and the grilled sea bass and prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella were fine. Weakest was the baked Brie, which was basically a baguette with barely any Brie on it (but still tasty thanks to the honey sauce). Prices are a little high but not aggressively so. The fact that the room was packed on a cold weeknight is a testament to its attractiveness as a pretty new place to go on the Main Line. It will be worth returning to try more of The Refectory's offerings.More

The Refectory opened in September in The Commons on Villanova University’s campus. There is parking in the garage on the corner of Lancaster Ave and South Ivan which will be validated when necessary. There’s not much signage other than on the door to the restaurant...which makes it feel like a secret place. The interior is very well done with booths, tables and a full service bar. It’s not a huge menu yet the food is delicious with a very pleasing presentation. It’s an open kitchen and I had a view of a well organized operation. Our group of 4 started with the spinach artichoke hot dip with house made tortilla chips. Two of us had the crab cakes which came with two crab cakes each and a creamy sauce. Another entree was branzino. The entrees are served with one side dish. Two had the kale slaw and one had the baked potato that was served with individual containers of shredded cheese, bacon bits, sour cream and scallions. The fourth had the cubano sandwich which was served with skinny fries. Our server Katie was very friendly and attentive. She recommended the butterscotch creme brûlée for dessert. It was delicious!! We will definitely be back to the Refectory again. They recently have begun serving lunch as well. Everyone was very impressed.More

This place just opened recently, and they were crowded on a Friday night when four of us went, but they were not too crowded for the staff and manager to handle well, as the service was friendly and excellent. The food was excellent too, and...I had the fish 'n chips. They have a variety of beer and wine, and enough variety on the menu for most people to probably find something they'd like, including burgers. This was our first time there, so we can't speak for the whole menu (yet). They had their name only on the glass of the entrance door, but will be getting an exterior sign soon. It's on the southwest corner of Lancaster & Ithan Avenues. Park across Ithan Avenue in the parking garage and get your stub validated at the restaurant for free parking. I'd go back.More
