My son and I ate here while visiting Penn State. Our plates were filled high with delicious kraut, sausages, pork and dumplings. It is all handmade on site. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely go again!

This was my second visit and was just as great as the first. Staff was very friendly and fun to talk with.

While I was visiting PSU for short term lab research, I was told that I had to stop here. I went in and ordered one of their specials to go (as I was too chicken to stay and face the wrath of asking for a to-go box if I couldn't finish). I'm so glad that I A) ordered their dish... More

Herwig's Wiener Schnitzel takes me back to my visit to Salzburg Castle in the 1980s, lunching on the local Wiener Schnitzel while enjoying a view from the Sound of Music. I loved the Apple Strudel too.

I am an Austrian, and so my daughter and I were of course curious about an Austrian restaurant when we visited Penn State. The food was excellent (try the Wiener Schnitzel), and we also had a nice chat with Bernd, who went to hotel school in Austria (Ischl). It was also nice to see all the pictures of Austria.

Ate a late lunch/early dinner here with my boyfriend and his parents. This was our first time so we were taking it all in. Loved the chalkboard menu. The owner was very funny and made our time dining very fun. We had our main dishes but also split 3 desserts that were divine! Our main meals were delicious as well!... More

This was my second visit to "Herwig's". The first one - several years ago - had been very disappointing. Just like "unappycamper106" I encountered the self appointed "class clown", and the food was not at all like the one I was used to eating in Europe. I am a German native myself, and I have been on vacation in Austria... More

This place has the freshest, most authentic German / Austrian food around, hands down. Everything I've tried there is absolutely amazing! Although they don't serve alcohol, they are B.Y.O.B., so have at it. Parking can be a pain, but it's totally worth it! See you soon, guys!

I have been to this place twice and both the times I had great memories of the meals. I had a Vegetarian Kaslaberl and my friend had some roasted chicken dish, whose name I forgot. Both of them were just too tasty and flavourful. I felt really content at the end of the meals. Feeling proud about this quality place... More

My food was pretty good. My husband wasn't impressed and he knows Austrian cuisine! For the atmosphere and quality, I don't think it was worth the price. We probably won't be back.
