Taste of NOLA in State College

My girlfriend and I stopped in for dinner on a snowy Saturday evening. The food was excellent. Our soups came first: the gumbo was one of the more authentic bowls I've had outside of the South, although I would have preferred some seafood in it; the creamy crab, corn, and mushroom chowder was... read more

This has been the lunch place to go. Not like the other ones in town, this place has been able to maintain the level, no matter what it is. The food tends to be a little heavy, but very tasty. If you are hungry, you should try their short rib dish.

We chose Spats based in reviews and were not disappointed. We made reservations for Saturday night and were seated immediately. Service was very good. The environment was pleasant and not too loud. My wife had crispy asparagus which she really loved. She also had the beets and edamame hummus, which she said was ok. I had scallops which were tasty,... More

Very tasty tapas (gator bites, calamari, scallops, voodoo shrimp, duck breast) and even better main dishes (lamb chops, crab cakes and catfish). Kids menu items include Mahi Mahi option instead of chicken fingers. One major drawback is that they don't allow BYOB, not even with a corking fee. Would recommend going early on Saturday.

Small Plates are fun and allow you to sample. A bit on the pricey side (Two scallops?) but well-prepared and good service. Interesting retro drinks as well.

WOW ! What a fantastic meal and great service. I started off with the asparagus appetizer which was topped with a poached egg. The presentation and taste was perfect. My wife had the crab and corn chowder and she said it was very good. I tried some and it was good but I've had better. Main course for me was... More

Stopped in for a nice lunch and while the salad was very good, the Mahi tacos were not as good. Simply too much garlic in the tzaziki sauce served on the tacos. Attempted to order a oyster Po'boy, but was told the fryer wasn't operating on this visit. Will return based on previous visits, but not rushing back after this... More

Creole cooking, with unusual choices for State College folks. Can be crowded at peak dinner time, so plan for a wait. The bar area is very small.

Had lunch here this time and it was as good as always! Never have a complaint here. Also asked them to make a to go box for us for something that isn't on the lunch menu (dinner only) and they were happy to do so! Great service! Great Food!
