This review is a long time coming for The Dining Room. I fear the restaurant has been sitting on its laurels for too long exclusively because of the location and the nostalgia that people feel going there to eat. My wife and I have been...one of those nostalgia visitors for about a decade now, but no more. We went for a nice quiet evening out together a little bit before Christmas. Not at an unreasonable time and day either, mind you. It was like 6 pm on a Thursday. We were greeted with some of the most obnoxiously juvenile holiday music I've heard in some time (Must be Santa Claus and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer featuring heavily in the lineup). Not exactly the kind of quiet, classy ambiance we had come to expect from prior visits. Also, since our last visit, the lights have been updated to the cheaper end of energy efficient lighting (seriously, you can get an energy efficient light bulb that doesn't look like bright hell on earth). In between the music, which was also far too loud, and lights that were so bright we had to keep our eyes fixed on our plates, we were regaled with the gossip of wait staff crowded around a nearby table. Okay, so check mark to ambiance getting a F-. The food, that would be a saving point, right? No, not even a little. The scallops were undercooked (needed another minute) and the risotto was also undercooked (needed considerably more minutes) . Fortunately each of the dishes was over-salted so it evens out? No not even a little. F- again. We really hope The Dining Room takes this review to heart and makes some changes so we can once again enjoy this establishment.More
