This review is a long time coming for The Dining Room. I fear the restaurant has been sitting on its laurels for too long exclusively because of the location and the nostalgia that people feel going there to eat. My wife and I have been...one of those nostalgia visitors for about a decade now, but no more. We went for a nice quiet evening out together a little bit before Christmas. Not at an unreasonable time and day either, mind you. It was like 6 pm on a Thursday. We were greeted with some of the most obnoxiously juvenile holiday music I've heard in some time (Must be Santa Claus and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer featuring heavily in the lineup). Not exactly the kind of quiet, classy ambiance we had come to expect from prior visits. Also, since our last visit, the lights have been updated to the cheaper end of energy efficient lighting (seriously, you can get an energy efficient light bulb that doesn't look like bright hell on earth). In between the music, which was also far too loud, and lights that were so bright we had to keep our eyes fixed on our plates, we were regaled with the gossip of wait staff crowded around a nearby table. Okay, so check mark to ambiance getting a F-. The food, that would be a saving point, right? No, not even a little. The scallops were undercooked (needed another minute) and the risotto was also undercooked (needed considerably more minutes) . Fortunately each of the dishes was over-salted so it evens out? No not even a little. F- again. We really hope The Dining Room takes this review to heart and makes some changes so we can once again enjoy this establishment.More

Had a lunch meeting at the dining room. On the way out, asked the front desk to validate my parking ticket. There were no other guests at the desk. They made me walk all the way back to the restaurant to get it validated where...the hostess rolled her eyes because the front desk wouldn't stamp it. And its the same stamp! Then on the way back past the desk the desk clerk asked if it went ok. Seriously, why didn't she just stamp my ticket. Obviously there is an internal battle going on at the hotel and I got caught in the middle. Very poor customer service....More

We went to breakfast with santa this weekend at the Nittany Lion Inn and it was the WORST event I have been to with my family. First if all you have to buy tickets to it and when you go the seating is a free...for all and not reserved like it should be. The food was terrible, they only had blueberry pancakes with white chocolate chips which is fine for adults but not for kids. Pam the hospitality manager should be fired for the way she treats her staff infront of guests. She was screaming at them infront of everyone. Dont waste your money it is not worth it at allMore

Went out to State College to visit my daughters and celebrate my firstborn’s 20th birthday. Wanted to take her to a nice restaurant for dinner plus she was craving steak so I chose The Dining Room at the NLI. I have to say that we...had an excellent dining experience from start to finish. The waitress who was clearly a PSU student was friendly and professional. She brought out wonderful bread with seasoned olive oil for dipping. My daughters had the file mignon and the short ribs for their entrees and I had the salmon. Every one of our dishes was tremendous. It was then followed by a birthday dessert which we all shared since our stomachs were so full. The complimentary birthday dessert that my daughter chose was the chocolate and peanut butter cake which was to die for. They presented it with “happy birthday “ written with chocolate on the plate and a candle. Because it is expensive I would recommend this restaurant for special occasions. It is definitely worth it.More

Beautiful setting but food was pricey and just good. Service was good, but needed to ask for steak knives for our steaks. Starters were adequate. Our steaks were $50 each without sides and Longhorn look and taste. Probably would not return.

We ordered off the menu and had the ham and cheese omelet and the banana bread french toast. Coffee was good. Omelet was a bit dry, roasted potatoes were seasoned well and tasted great. Banana bread french toast was too sweet for me with the...extra powered sugar on top and the bread got very mushy very quickly when syrup was added. I think it could have been dipped heavier in the egg mixture and fried longer to crisp up more on the outside. Service was great. Price from breakfast was reasonable.More

Fabulous brunch with the family! The prime rib was delicious along with the shrimp. My husband’s favorite selection. Our son raved about the French toast and the eggs Benedict. I enjoyed the shrimp lo mein cold salad, the variety of cheeses, and the salmon spread...was out of this world. The cheese blitzes with the raspberry sauce made the perfect dessert. Excellent service and wonderful meal.More

Thank you for the kind words about our Sunday Brunch. It is a great tradition here at The Inn and made even more special on weekends such as THON.

We had a small meeting in one of the rooms at which lunch was served. Service was excellent - our server was extremely attentive without being disruptive and was very friendly. Based on the recommendation of one of our party who'd eaten there before, we...had the lobster bisque - which was perhaps the best I've had: rich, creamy and loaded with large pieces of lobster. The other dishes we had were equally impressive.More

We had not been to the Thanksgiving buffet at the Inn for a few years after a few not so great experiences. We tried it again this year and it was excellent! We were lucky to be seated in the traditional colonial dining room, although...the ballroom and other rooms were very busy as well. The food was great as well as the display and service. I was so impressed that the Inn is back to its wonderful past excellence! We will be back attending other buffets as well.More
