Ireland in reading

Good comfort food. The atmosphere is like an Irish pub. The dining area is small and parking can be an issue.

This spot has the best chicken cheesesteaks downtown! When you walk into the place it's beautiful and very cozy for couples. Great fast service.

Pub food at it's best! Love the oysters and the Portobello mushroom sandwich. Wonderful traditional Irish pub atmosphere. Great efficient fun staff!

Historic warm friendly pub with good food. Downtown Reading needs more places like this to give people a reason to visit downtown more regularly. There is money in the suburbs, now we need to get those people downtown to spend their money and support an independent business.

The Ugly Oyster is a wonderfully-welcoming Irish pub that offers tasty bar food, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and tons of drink options in bottles and on tap. The bartenders are warm and friendly and the live music (if you're there when it's being played) is a perfect complement for the space. Be sure to try one of the handmade... More

This is a very popular Irish bar with limited seating, so do call ahead for reservations should you want a table for dinner. We went on a Friday night and sat at the bar because no tables would have been available for 2 hours. There's a nice selection of beers on tap and they do know how to pour a... More

Ok, 8 grown men, the neighborhood was not that bad, but this is not a mall out-lot. That said, the food and service was great, and I would not hesitate to visit again or recommend it to other similar groups. The neighborhood would make me reluctant to recommend the Ugly Oyster as a romantic evening, unless you plan on capping... More

Authentic Irish atmosphere. Great beverage selections. Friendly staff. Great little get away in the city. Perfect spot before or after a Royals game or catching a show at the Performing Arts Center. Food is great. There are a couple signature dishes worth trying. The Ugly Pretzel and Chicken Cheesteak sandwich are a few of my favorites.

The UO does not disappoint. The Oysters were amazing once again. Staff is always friendly. Food is plentiful and the atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming. Always make it a point to stop here when coming into Reading.

We hadn't been to the UO for several years. The atmosphere remains amazing. The Guinness is perfectly poured. However, the fish and chips were just about not edible. Heavy, greasy coating on the fish. Tasted like it was fried in old oil. The wait staff was not interested. Needless to say, we will pop in here for a beer but... More
