My husband and I went here for Valentine's Day and it was AMAZING!! I had the Baked dates for my appetizer and it is, hands down, the best appetizer I have ever had. The rest of our meal was delicious as well, as were the...cocktails. Great service and great atmosphere.More

Went there on a Saturday night prior to a show. The curried butternut squash soup with crab was outstanding! Good service with friendly wait people. Would highly recommend.

Was in town from out of state for a funeral and looking for some where to eat dinner on Friday night. We were actually looking for another restaurant when we came upon Judys. What an awesome find . Food was amazing, service was amazing, ……...just a great place ! The focaccia bread was literally the best we’ve ever had . If we are ever in Reading again we will definitely stop at Judys.More

I haven’t been here in many years. I was very excited to go with a friend of mine. I had made a reservation a week earlier and explained that it was my friend’s birthday and asked if they did anything special. They assured me that...they did (a slice of cake with a happy birthday message) and I felt excited having a secret to surprise my friend. We ordered a wine and hot tea. A server brought us focaccia. Something we didn’t ask for but were happy to receive. It was ok. But knowing we had the burrata appetizer coming - I didn’t want to fill up on it, so I only nibbled on one piece. We both ordered salads. Both of which we enjoyed. Our waitress was very pleasant and efficient. The part that bothered me was at the end. We looked at dessert menus but I wasn’t really sure what was happening with my friend’s birthday cake. So we said we passed and when the waitress brought me the check (my treat), I figured there was a disconnect somewhere. I excused myself to the bathroom and went to find the hostess and she wasn’t there. A waiter saw that I was waiting to speak to someone and came over. I explained that I had called and asked about a birthday surprise for my friend. He said they normally do do something. Our waitress saw me at the hostess stand too and came over. I explained to her that when I made the reservation I said it was my friend’s birthday. I wasn’t sure if they charged or not for the dessert (and I didn’t mind paying for something) but the surprise wasn’t there anymore so I said never mind. I guess I thought the waitress might still do something for my friend but she didn’t. Ok but … Then I opened the check and saw a charge for the focaccia. Granted it was only $1.50. But we didn’t ask for it. And certainly didn’t know there would be a charge. A server just plopped it down on our table and said, “I’ll bring oil.” I think for a pricier restaurant this is a bit tacky. It’s more principle than cost. I get that the restaurant industry is having a tough go of it. But this just left a bad taste in my mouth.More

Service was impeccable. Very pleasant wait staff. Of all the dishes I sampled the best one was the Mushroom Pizza. Great crust from a wood fired oven, and perfect charring. Could have possibly used a bit more truffle oil as I could not taste it....But that's a very minor taste matter not a criticism of the execution which was flawless. I would skip the hearts of palms that were fried. A bland dish with little contrasting flavor of the supplied sauce. Everyone else at the table were pleased with their selections including the Pork Chop, the Curry dish, salads with Italian style anchovies (Cesars), and Coconut cake. Social distancing was observed as the customer traffic in the place was light that particular night. I would definitely go back. The house selection of glass wines were also very good. You would have to look hard to find a fault (albeit picky and minor) to gripe about this restaurant. The owner's attention to detail is very obvious.More

A solid choice with some room for improvement. One of the few places in Berks you can get a clean meal with healthy options (including vegetarian and low carb). The atmosphere is lovely and while some complain of the treachery of its downtown Reading location,...there's something to be said for not rolling up to a strip mall on date night. Perfect cocktails- Gin Lavender was refreshing, floral, and still delivered a buzz. Black Manhattan- perfectly mixed. The bread is notorious. A wood-fired, pita-like, focaccia that some people travel for. Appetizer course- Tuscan Meatballs w/ ricotta truffle and ricotta were too tiny to share. Main course Cedar-Planked Mustard Salmon was satisfying. Lamb Cassoulet was savory, better. One of the few places that has dessert not provided by a distributor. I do not like my dessert sickening sweet, though our selections could've used the benefit of some additional sugar as the cheesecake was almost savory. None of the dishes knocked my socks off the way one would hope. But I was happy to have a reliable, fresh-cooked, meal not soaked in salt and trans fats prepared by a professional. You will not leave full, but you will leave satisfied. However, for the cost of our meal I was somewhat disappointed on every level. The bread no longer complimentary was served without dipping oil. We never got water the entire meal. I finished my cocktail then ate 3 courses without a drop of liquid to wash any of it down. I respectfully offer a pass based on the current climate of the food industry post COVID. Judy's remains in my good graces based on lifetime experiences and a still well presented meal. But if value and service continue to decline while prices go higher I may have to patronage fine dining elsewhere.More

We went there based on the reviews. We were there for a concert. The food and drinks were very good. My husband had the salmon and I had the caribean lobster tail. Both dishes were wonderful. Appetizers were good too. I ordered a specialty drink...but subbed out gin for vodka and it was good. We weren't crazy about the coconut cake, not moist and coconut enough. Our waitress was nice but new and not knowledgeable about menu. However, we would eat there again. Bill was about $120 plus tip. We thought for the portion size and quality of the food it was reasonable.More

I'd put our dinner experience in the top 20 of meals enjoyed anywhere, including NYC, Los Angeles, and Italy. This restaurant achieves the rare trifecta of great food, ambiance, and service. It is all very relaxed yet professional. The staff and most diners were very...Covid-compiant. Local art hangs on the walls, and the music is not too loud. Now onto the main attraction: the food. My husband had the vegan stuffed zucchini platter. Usually when I see the word 'vegan' my eyes glaze over and I move on, but wow--it was like an Indonesian presentation with different veggies arranged in a circle around the centerpiece. All fresh, with good herbs. My Florida-style shrimp salad was also excellent, and Judy's focaccia bread is to die for. Have I mentioned the desserts? I could have tried each one, but settled on the homemade blueberry pie for the seasonality. Total opposite of what you usually find in PA Dutch areas -- the fruit in Judy's pie stood firm and was not overly sweetened. Wish it was open for lunch too or had stayed open on Sunday given the tourists (like us) in town for Berks Jazz Festival! We'd return in a heartbeat!More

We enjoyed Judy’s on Cherry. We were in town for the Berks Jazz Festival and this restaurant seemed the best choice close to Santander Performing Arts Center. We shared a bottle of Westbrook Merlot, Walla Walla Washington. It was pretty good. They have a small...but decent wine list. We also shared their Antipasto for Two appetizer. This was the only thing subpar in our dining experience at Judy’s and I would recommend skipping this one. Not that anything was bad but it was nothing special. My wide had the Chilean Sea Bass and I had the Filet Mignon with Gorgonzola butter. Both entrees were excellent and came with a small house salad. The table was set with olive oil and they brought bread for dipping. Service was pretty good but servers were very busy at the opening hour. We would definitely recommend and it was our best meal in Reading.More

The food and service were outstanding. We had Salmon and Chilean sea bass, but the star was the blueberry pie! Not your everyday mushy blueberry pie, it was bright and delicious. Best I have ever had.

Judy’s on Cherry is a relaxed, cozy, fashionable restaurant in the downtown area located in the second floor of a turn of the century marketplace. The exposed stone and brick walls lent charm. Our fresh spring rolls were a good choice for appetizer. My lump...crab cakes were nicely done with lump crab meat--and the asparagus perfectly cooked. My dining partner said his chicken limoncello with capellini was different but ate everything on his plate. The dinner rolls were delicious--however, per the menu, an additional cost would be added for a reorder—everyone must want to take something home from Judy's. Leave room for dessert. Pleasant staff. Reservations are needed to insure a table. Noise level moderate. On street parking. No elevator.More

Hubby and I had a wonderful, wonderful meal. Every dish we received was delicious. We started with the Gorgonzola Baked Figs topped w/ Bacon, which we found extremely enjoyable. Then I had the crabcakes and hubby had the filet mignon. I ate every last morsel....Hubby said his filet was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. We finished the fabulous meal with what had to be one of the finest desert made in heaven....their Banana Creme Pie.........Oh I must mention how efficient and nice our waitress, Iris, was. She made the experience extra special. We will definitely will be back.....More

Tuesday, May 28, 2019: We went to lunch at Judy’s on Cherry, where we met Judy. Lew started with glasses of Pinot grigio (10) while I had iced tea (2.99). Lew enjoyed a cup of their butter nut squash soup (3.99) with crab and curry...and I enjoyed a cup of a wonderful gazpacho (4). Punctuated by a wonderful in-house bread and oil course, Lew shoes a Mushroom Pizza (13) with shiitake, oyster and button mushrooms and fontina cheese, caramelized onion, truffle oil and garlic, and I had an excellent Roast Beef Club Sandwich (11) of roast beef, bacon, lettuce, tomato, horseradish aioli on pumpernickel swirl rye toast. Senior Warning: It's upstairs, but there's good parking across the streetMore

There is no elevator that I'm aware of. If so, it's not visible in the public area.
