We love Ali Baba...One of the best Mediterranean restaurants in Pittsburgh! Consistently good! Hummus, baba, chicken kabobs, lentil soup, spinach pies & sleek are among some of our favorites! We also love the Mujaddara! Owner & staff are friendly & do a wonderful job! Highly...recommend!More

The unpretentious exterior of this restaurant is misleading. It is casual but truly one of Pittsburgh's best! Don't miss it. Thank you!

Ali baba’s is family owned and consistently has amazing food. It’s the best baba ganouj I’ve ever tasted. The hummus is creamy and smooth. My kafta was great!! From the sleek to the mousaka to the lamb shishkabob, every dish in our group was incredible....The atmosphere is comfortable and quiet. The service is great! It’s byob. Definitely try Ali Babas when in Oakland!More

We went later at night which was great because it wasn’t too busy. The food came out freshly prepared and really delicious. The artichoke salad was a pleasant surprise. The lamb shank was cooked perfectly. And again it was super easy being gluten free

My friend and I are in Pittsburgh once a month for a book club and stumbled upon this place when our usual lunch spot on Craig Street was closed. THIS restaurant is now our "usual" lunch spot! Everything we have had has been excellent and...we have never been truly disappointed. We typically get the Lentil and Spinach soup and share a skewer of meat [here is a note: my friend loves lamb and it did take several tries to get the lamb cooked as she like it; medium rare. IF you like lamb cooked that way, order it rare and it will be perfect] and a small salad with extra feta [which is amazing in the soup FYI]. The service is always fast and friendly and the atmosphere is just lovely. It is a perfect spot for lunch [as evidenced by all the people we see every time we are there]. Love this place!More

Really enjoyed this place. The food was prepared with care and excellent waiter staff. It is a BOYB place, so keep this in mind. Really enjoyed the grilled fish.

Very slow service for dinner. Food selection weak. Kebab was tough. Sides not to my liking. Left food behind - not normal for me.

We were looking for dinner and this restaurant was able to accommodate us without a wait, and we all had a great meal, most of us chose Moussaka, and the other chose lamb souvlaki meal, and we were all pleased with our choices.

Went to Ali Baba for dinner with wife and a friend. Our waitress was quite friendly and food was good albeit not exceptional. The service was really substandard however. Took a loooong time to initially be served. Waitress brought dinners while we were still eating...salads and so we had to scramble to move our dishes around while trying to finish our salads. After we were done with dinner, dirty dishes remained on the table, even while one of us had dessert. These are pretty basic issues that would be easy to fix with proper training of wait staff. Overall a nice place but needs better training of wait staff.More

I don't know what happened to this (formerly) wonderful restaurant. We used to really enjoy eating at Ali Baba. Over the last couple of years, however, it has gone downhill. We went tonight and have finally decided not to go back anymore. The ground lamb...skewers were dry and tasteless. The sauce with the lamb shank was about 80% grease. And when they brought additional sauce, it was also mostly grease. Unfortunately, this restaurant has gone downhill. Maybe the two original founders of the restaurant need to return. Otherwise, I wouldn't expect Ali Baba to last much longer.More

The koozi was ground lamb with rice and peas inside a wrap of filo (or phylo). In other words, en croute, which I always enjoy. It came with either a salad or a big bowl of yogurt. I had the yogurt. It went well with...the koozi, which was great. ($15.95). My brother had the fish platter which was tilapia, which came with a small salad and peas. ($16.95). Our extremely helpful server was Charlie B. It was my brother's turn to pay and I regret to say he under-tipped (10%). He's a tightwad when it comes to tipping. Restrooms were clean, at least the mens room, which is all I can speak to. Parking is always difficult in this neighborhood. I parked two blocks away. By no means would I call this place a hole in the wall as other visitors have done. It is clean and well-lit, I look forward to returning to Ali Babas.More

Tried one of the lentil soups which came with some pita bread. It was tasty and filling. For my main, I got moussaka, which was about 4" x 4" x 2" (which I think is a large piece). The bill came to $21 before tax....The wait staff was friendly.More

We were in the area and visited the nearby Carnegie museum before we decided to grab lunch. Spending 3 hours in the museum really worked up an appetite and were craving Mediterranean food. We Yelped and found Ali Baba's so decided to go here. The...restaurant is in a cute area of town and is quite charming itself. They were not busy when we went in so we received service immediately. Our server was excellent and was able to point out the vegan and vegetarian options. My husband and I both had the lentil soup as a starter. OMG! It was delicious. I really should have had a bowl of it as it was pure heaven. For our appetizer we had a falafel sandwich. Now it is typically a plate but they made it a sandwich for us. It was delicious. There was falafel in every bite which is not my experience with other restaurants serving falafel. At the end of the day I will say this is one of, if not, the best Mediterranean restaurants around.More

One of the best middle eastern places I have eaten at sence I was in the middle east. Well worth the visit. It's off the regular path. But you won't be sorry. And there are some nice little shops in the area.
