Luckily we could get seated. Food and service were both excellent. However, even though we had an Opentable email confirmation of a reservation at this restaurant for dinner for 2 at 6:30 pm on October 9, the restaurant did not have any record of a...reservation for us. Annoying to say the least. We made do with a hightop table in the bar but it was not what I envisioned. If you use Opentable I would double check that you will have a table.More

When you walk in, you are warmly greeted and seated in a chic, Asian inspired building. Waitress provided excellent and informative service. The cocktails were a little disappointing with too much sour mix. The tempura rock shrimp and tuna tartare were great starters. The black...cod entree was exceptional. The chocolate mousse sushi was nicely presented and delicious.More

Excellent quality - average service. The rock shrimp tempura was really really good. The drinks were solid and the sashimi was very high quality. The service was just average but I would definitely go back

We stopped here for dinner during a short B&B stay in Shadyside. We have been here for dinner several times before, and Soba still offers excellent cuisine in a nice atmosphere. All of our dinner choices were delicious, and I particularly enjoyed the Salmon Maki...Roll. I was pleased that they offer an excellent, smooth Sake - Taisetsu Ice Dome - best sake I have had in a very long time. The service was attentive and they are doing a nice job within the COVID guidelines. We will definitely keep coming back.More

This is a high-level dinner restaurant that serves mostly Asian dishes. The fried dumplings were okay. I have had better served in to go boxes at much less expensive places. The fried rice was excellent as long as you like the crispy edges. If not,...don't go here.More

Soba used to be one of our favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. This assessment took a hit in our last visit. The people at the desk were efficient but unfriendly. We did not feel welcome. In contrast, the wait people and servers were delightful. The food...was very problematic. One of our favorite dishes is their rock shrimp tempura with a nice crisp crust. This time, it came as a soggy mess. My wife ordered their shaking steak dish. She ordered it medium rare but it arrived medium raw. Worse, while tender, it was devoid of flavor. The side dish that came with it was boring. I fared better with theor swordfish even though it was a bit dry. Either the standards of this restaurant have slipped of the kitchen was having a very bad night. We hope it was the latter but we will not be returning soon. The wine list is rather unimaginative.More

Four of us visited for a dinner on a weekday evening. Our server, Sarah, was just wonderful. The food was excellent. We sat at a table on a second floor porch and it was very comfortable at sunset in September.

Come EARLY for a sit in a MagATROSHERE (Magical atmosphere). Unique and pretty cocktails. Great mixologist at the helm! I had the Dragon's Breath (barbancourt 8 year rum, ancho chili liqueur, thai basil, lime) RUMMA LUMMA LICIOUS! We were a party 5 with a reservation....We had planned to arrive early to enjoy the cocktail lounge. Our table was ready at reservation time right on schedule and the place was jumpin! We started with many appetizers, the calamari with mint and chilis, the spicy tuna roll with spicy aoli, tuna tartar (YUM!) and the spicy port lettuce wraps (the wraps were meh for me...a lil bland) MOST of us at the table ordered the Seared Rare Tuna (sesame crust, korean barbeque sauce, kim chi, cucumber salad, ginger fried rice, peanuts) YUM YUM YUM...Highly recommend. Another in our party ordered the Summer Duck Lo Mein, also declicious!!! Dessert was the banana split (unique and exciting) and the banana ice cream with beautiful glasses of port. Service was excellent. Remarkable dining!More

Both the food and the service were quite good, let alone the atmosphere. We were there for a business dinner (around 30 people), and they had a special area for that upstairs.

We have been going to Soba several times/year since it opened. Very nice decor with complimentary valet parking. Pleasant hostess, but what seemed to be disinterest from the server. The food has always been superb, but not tonight. We ordered 5 different starters. Mostly good....Korean ribs dryer than usual. I ordered Ahi tuna. Something seemed missing flavor wise. I trust this night to be an anomaly!More

We have been eating at Soba since the beginning. Both the food and the service vary. Yesterday the service was wonderful..waitstaff paying attention, answering questions, checking back even as they got busier. But the food bordered between Poor and Dreadful. Why have a special Thai...menu if you're going to serve dried out, tasteless, bland so called Thai food? There are plenty of Thai restaurants in town with a broader menu, more reasonable portions and certainly lower prices. If I had known just how bad it would be, I would never have ordered from that side of the menu. Soba does do some things well, but their menu needs to add items on that are in line with the cod or the salmon. I had ordered the pumpkin curry which was so bland that you couldn't tell what the vegetable was nor was there more than a hint of curry. I didn't eat it but offered it to others at the table who didn't take more than a bite. The shrimp was also tasteless and served with dried out rice noodles that had clearly been sitting around for hours....and we were there early! The beef satay was actually quite good and a couple of us ordered it at the suggestion of the waitress. To give credit where it is due, I have to give the ice cream 5 stars: it was hibiscus honey, I think. Really quite wonderful. When we left the upstairs was full and mezzanine as well. So I guess some people like Soba. The problem was that the regular menu, boring and predictable, but usually pretty good, was severely limited to allow for the Thai side. I'd say either stick to what you know or else take more care in the prep of the "special" dinners. There is a lot of competition out there and somehow you've managed to survive with the weirdly chosen art. The food used to have its own personality but last night at least it was more like the weird art--a bit of this and that with little apparent thought going into it.More

If you are referring to Springhill Suites in Pittsburgh, then yes. Trader Joes is within walking distance. It is in a small shopping center 1-2 blocks up the street. A Target is also up the street, but a bit further walk.
