My wife and I wanted a restaurant in walking distance from our hotel in Shadyside (Pittsburgh), and came across Avenue B. This restaurant delivered well beyond my expectations for the neighborhood. The staff was helpful, friendly, and knowledgable without pretense. The food was creative and tasty. We especially enjoyed the parsnip and pear bisque and the Chilean Sea Bass with... More

I don't know about you, but I think that an $8 "corking fee" (the fee to open your bottle of wine) is a little outrageous for a BYOB restaurant. [I wonder how much they would have charged to open beer bottles.] I don't live in Pittsburgh, and I've heard that lots of the smaller, good-food restaurants are BYOB. I'm not... More

I didn't realize that many PA restaurants expect you to bring own own bottle, so we dashed in to this place last minute, without libation. A nice chard would have been excellent. The food is great, the service was terrific. We had a pork special, brussel sprouts, and wagyu beef meatloaf. The two amazing dishes, however, were the book ends.... More

They want to be fancy and thy are in the most part. The staff is upstanding in front of you, looking in eyes and talking without stops, demonstrating a knowledge about everything they offer. The food is fancy, too. Nice arrangement, superior look, needs more taste. The Wagyu meatloaf in my plate had no structure and spices at all, but they... More

While it has been a few years since our last visit nothing much had changed except the expansion into the next building. We were able to find street parking, free after 6 PM, just up from the restaurant. The greeting warm and we were shown to our table even if we were a half hour early. Since this a BYOB... More

We had a lovely meal at Avenue B. Unusual menu, unique combinations, presented in creative ways. Comfortable dining room, and good service. It's a BYOB, so plan ahead. If you forget you can buy beer at the Giant Eagle across the street.

Cure is the best restaurant in Pittsburgh by far, but this is the next best we've found so far. The food at Avenue B was truly creative and subtle. Other restaurants getting high ratings from others-- Casbah, Eleven, Legume, Salt, Soba--are much less creative and fall far short of Avenue B and Cure. Outside of town, Lautrec at Nemacolin is... We are in Pittsburgh, (me for the first time) dropping our son to school. Decided to grab dinner with him. My husband found this place in trip advisor. Which failed to mentioned that is BYOB. The place it's way too loud. Could not hear the waitress and specials. Aside from that the grilled peach salad was delicious. The raw deal... More

I first visited this restaurant shortly after it opened about 7 years ago. What I could vaguely recall from my first visit was that the food and service were very good, that the restaurant was very quaint and had a "hip" vibe about it, and that the menu was very innovative (back when the "farm to table" concept was in...
