A small bar with fantastic beer and friendly service. The local beer selection is wonderful and really helps you get a sense of the beer scene in the area. The staff is friendly and attentive, even when busy. Highly recommend.

Really good beer with much of it being from local breweries. Server was nice and informative on beers and food selections. My wife had a drink that was also good. The atmosphere is pleasant with an outside area also. The menu is small but high...quality.More

Thoughtfully curated selection of local and not so local brews in a friendly and funky venue. Gracious staff. They play good music on their turntable. Happy hour is fantastic!

We were all a bit confused about the name and then there not being any beer brewed onsite or in their name however that was quickly relieved upon arrival. We were quickly seated after making a reservation (for a party greater than 6). Our group...had 3 apps - potato chips with ramp hollandaise, focaccia, and crispy sweet potatoes. All 3 were amazing and we were real glad we were there during ramp season. Our entrees included the rigatoni which turned out to a huge hit that was not expected - perfectly cooked pasta and the ham, peas, ricotta, and mint were a perfect combo. The whole branzino was excellently cooked and delicious. Finally the soft shelled crab sandwich was near perfection. Finally we were surprisingly treated to desserts on the house and were brought 4 different desserts (even though there were only 2 on the menu). Most of us didn’t come into the meal as a fan of flan however that may have been the star of the meal. All 4 desserts we had were really amazing. We even got to speak to Chef Jamilka at our table and we can’t thank her and her team enough for the hospitality, the meal, and the overall experience. We will go back anytime we are in a Pittsburgh!More

Where do you go in Pittsburgh if you want a nice selection of beer and delicious food to pair? Well, there are more choices than I expected, and this fact came to light on a recent visit to the Steel City, in support of my...beer blog, Great Beer Now. And one place I visited that was satisfying on both a beer and food level was Independent Brewing. First off, Independent Brewing is not an actual brewery, so don’t be misled by the name. When I first found out I was going here, I thought it was a craft brewery. It isn’t. But they do serve a large selection of craft beer along with wine and cocktails. The beer and wine are displayed on a chalk board, behind the bar, and each beer is listed with the alcohol content displayed, so you know what you’re getting into before you buy. The spirits list is a good, manageable length and contains many premium brands for your boozing pleasure. Independent Brewing is on the small side. The interior is dark, which is cool for a romantic night out. This darkness during the evening hours does provide for a nice atmosphere. However, it can get crowded on weekends and due to its size, it can get lively. If you prefer smaller crowds and more peace and quiet, try to visit during the week. With food, Independent Brewing has a good number of options and a menu that isn’t too long or too short. You can get appetizers, sandwiches, soups, desserts, and more. My menu consisted of a few things, starting with the Beef Empanada. Made with ground beef, cheese, and pineapple hot sauce it was also a real treat and perfect with a craft beer. But I think I liked my burger even more. They really know how to do things right with the burgers here- it was seasoned and prepared exactly to my liking and topped with crisp veggies. Other, interesting and tempting food options include Sweet Potatoes and Spicy Pork, Arugula and Lentil salad, Brined and Braised Brisket, Korean Fried Chicken, and Sunchoke cream Soup. There was nothing that sounded boring and I would have loved to try more. It’s definitely a restaurant and bar I will be returning to the next time I’m in the Pittsburgh area.More

Our party of four ordered small plates for a snack and a few beers. Service was great. I'm not from the area, but I would love to go back again and try more from the menu. We had reservations at Hidden Harbor for drinks right...next door so we didn't want to over indulge here. They had a solid beer menu much of which is local to the area. We drove to this area and found parking available in a public lot nearby.More

Stopped by with a few friends for drinks after work on a Friday night. We were told we couldn't have more than 6 sit together, even though we were expecting 8. I can understand that, though. It's relatively small place. We ordered a round of...drinks. About 15 minutes after the drinks arrived the waiter brought over a check, dropped it on the table, and walked away. We hadn't asked for a check as we had been planning to stay for awhile. He seemed to ignore us for awhile but we eventually flagged him down and ordered another round. It was clear at this point they didn't want us there at all. We paid our bill and left to go somewhere else. I had arrived very hungry, planning to order dinner. However, looking at the short menu and the high prices for very small portions combined with the experience we had just getting a few drinks, we all chose to eat elsewhere. Overall: Pretentious & Overpriced. Skip it. WeMore

I recommend this place for the small plates - especially the sweet potatoes with pork, the pork meatballs, and the beef empanada. Skip the avo and shrimp - too much mayo. Beer selection ok, no dark beer when I was there. Note - this can...be a busy and loud place. Plus, our service was not very good - I had to get up and ask for someone to take our order [and the check].More

We initially stopped in just for drinks, but the service and vibe was so nice we decided to stay for dinner. We were glad we did. The mac & cheese was good comfort food on a rainy night. Very creamy with a mix of cheeses...geared towards an adult palate - no velveeta here. I also enjoyed the brussel sprout salad with pecans; simple but fresh and with a nice dressing - and large portion. I would recommend that if you are looking for something healthy (and obviously, must like brussel sprouts). Small, cozy place. There were a lot of youngsters but some fellow gray hairs too, and the music was not too loud.More

Good selection of beers, they have some good food as well. Offer some beers that can be canned and taken home. Would visit again.
