Kinda hippie, but that's how we roll. I had a steak, sorry I'm a purist, it was in my top 3 for a life time. My wife had the chicken paprikash, high ratings on her end also. We have dined from Rio to London, we live in Wexford. If we could find a sitter every Saturday evening, we would make... More

This is a superb local American restaurant with strong, innovative veggie options a mere 5 blocks from Pitt (our son is a student there). The restaurant is cozy but has an upscale bar attached if you want a livelier scene (Butterjoint). Drinks are made at Butterjoint which is notable for a wide range of inventive cocktails as well as all... More

One evening at Legume and you know why this restaurant receives props for fine dining. You enter attractively lit rooms that make you feel in someone's dining room. Wait service is professional, attentive, and helpful but not overly chatty. The cocktail list is a kicker, and plate after plate arrives to delight and intrigue. The corn poblano soup smooth and... Very enjoyable meal with quite an interesting menu. I had the halibut and my guest had mackerel. There were vegan, chicken and beef entrees available. The European portions allowed a diner to enjoy an appetizer as well as dessert. The service was excellent.

So we had to try. We had good apps to share for a group of 6. Don't be shy - get the French fries with truffles. I split the steak. It was the right portion for me. And they were gracious to do it. Delicious. Nice celebration night. Quieter during the week, but still busy on a Monday.

Don't be fooled by their name - they serve great meat as well as vegetarian options. We started with three "starters" each of which was delicious and just the right amount for three of us. The main courses were wonderfully cooked and tasty - not overly fussed over. The dessert was fabulous - a peach and blueberry crumble that we... More

Truly lovely. Much larger than I'd anticipated but not in a bad way. Lots of intimate nooks to be sat at. Menu, printed daily, is absolutely seasonal, locally sourced as possible. Wonderful bread. Had the corn soup and the chicken (with a glossy caramelized square of grits, tomatoes popped into sweetness in a skillet, zucchini)--all terrific. Excellent choices for vegetarians.... More

My wife and I came to Pittsburgh to visit my son and see his white coat ceremony for the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. That event was on Sunday so Saturday we had some time to see our son and explore Pittsburgh a little. My son made reservations for Legume for 8:15pm and when we arrive it was quaint and... More

The wonderful food compensated for the indifferent service and bland atmosphere. The corn soup, goat cheese crostini and sea bass were absolutely fantastic. The upside down cake was great but the peach crisp was only so so. Still, overall, Legume is definitely worth a visit.
