Not sure what I thought but I'm glad we choose this place. The staff was knowledgeable, awesome and so the food was great.A little costly but we'll worth it, even the chef came out to visit with us.

Last two years we have been at Guru take out and in restaurants food and service was five star. Thinking we get the same we went for dinner completely disappointed on service and food. This is why: Promptly seated served drinks and appetizers that was...only good part. For food we had to wait long time was serve lukewarm and most of them looked like came out of cans or frozen entry. All of them were watered down. Order bread basket with food never came to table until we were all finish eating dinners. No apology. During dining no one came to check if we need anything no refills on water or drink. Did not pick used dishes. Had to wait for check got surprise 20% mandatory tip. Had to find cashier to pay the bill was ask do you want to add tip. I think whole thing was messed up run by high school kids. Problem could be they have new owners or lost the chef. They do know how to bring star rating from 5 to 0. Will go again - NEVERMore
Brought some friends from out of town on Saturday night This was their 1st time at the restaurant. Fresh new menu made it easy to identify vegetarian or gluten free dishes. There were new "craft cocktails" as well, I ordered a "future fashioned" what was...the best take on an old fashioned cocktail I had ever had, it was served with a crystal ball on top!! My friends were very impressed. They are regulars of Tiffin, an Indian restaurant local to them in Philadelphia. They couldn't believe we have a better Indian restaurant right here in Newtown. This was really a great experience. Guru's continues to raise the bar each time I visit. Give them a try and they will quickly become one of your favorite restaurantsMore
I have been going to Guru's for a long time and it truly was one of my favorite restaurants but I had not been there recently. I will give it that it was a busy night, but we had been there on other busy nights...in the past. I didn't see the owners who are usually so friendly, but maybe they were off this night. I was so sad after I left, because what I had enjoyed as a wonderful restaurant with great food completely changed. First we ordered unsweetened chai tea, which we had ordered other times we came there, and it was served to us very sweet and only luke warm. The server left so quickly, we couldn't even tell him that this was the wrong tea. We tried to get the attention of other servers but they did not make eye contact with us or listen to us when we called them. When the server came back he told us that he had ordered the unsweetened tea, but this is what the kitchen gave him to serve us. Then we ordered a dish with panir, and I asked if it was soy panir (I'm allergic to soy) or dairy panir. The server said he would let us know. Again, he served the dish and then ran off before I could ask him about the panir--so I needed to wait quite some time to find out. I ended up sharing my husband's lamb dish which was good, but really wanted to eat my dinner. Finally after we finished my husband's dish, the server came back--I asked if my dish was soy or dairy. He said he just found out it was dairy but it was too late for me to eat my dinner. He did take the tea off our tab. One other addition that was not pleasant was a not so good singer (out of tune--we are musicians), who was using canned Indian music to accompany him. It was so loud, we couldn't hear each other in the restaurant and unfortunately could not tune him out. Sorry to say, that I won't be returning to the restaurant. I will just remember the fond memories of the past.More
when we visit our daughter we always stop in here. Owner is very friendly and present. Food is authentic and reasonably priced
When this place first opened, it was awesome, everything was great. After the pandemic started, the quality of the food dropped massively. Food ordered as spicy came out bland and mild and I kept on trying to give them another shot hoping that it was...just a fluke but I'm done wasting my money there. It's just another overpriced mediocre Indian spot now that happens to have a great location to keep them in business. They won't get my business though, if I want mediocre indian food, ill make it myself.More
The food was good. The service okay. You have to ask for a straw, if it matters to you that drinks are served holding the glass in a way that rim is touched. Tables are very small. We were 4 people, the table had maybe...room for 2. There was barely any ambiance. Mostly white walls, plain tables. McDonalds is better decorated. We were disappointed, but the restaurant was surprisingly well visited.More
Good menu with plenty of choice. Waiters were pleasant, service was fairly quick, food was good and portions were a generous size.
Fairly solid Indian spot in newtown. Spice, in terms of flavors, can be a bit on the bland side, but still at least above average in my experience. Prices are higher than warranted, but that’s to be expected in newtown. I will say Guru’s keeps...things fresh and innovative on the menu, with good picks like avocado samosas!More
Saying that the food is amazing is just one aspect of my rating of Guru's...because its not just the food...its the chef and the way he runs the restaurant. the ownership of Guru's provides amazing meals...but beyond that, they are hospitable, friendly, and gracious. I...honestly cant say enough about this place...I don't hesitate to recommend Guru's to even my most discriminate 'foodie' friends. You wont be disappointed...the food and the experience is honestly just that good.More
One of the best restaurants in the area that I’ve been to. Honestly, I am very picky with food however Guru’s never let me down. They have great staff and provides very personable service to each and every customer. You can always speak with Priya...at the restaurant and she is very dependable for providing the best possible service and gourmet food to all customers. In terms of food, I honestly cannot pick and chose which one I like the best because every single recipe (specially vegetarian since I am veg) are the best and very authentic taste. PS They will make it very personable when ordering for catering for events!!!!More
Overall Value: Been there few times. Will go back again. Service: Spotty. Some servers are very good. Some need more training and motivation. Food: Excellent. Avocado Chat, we have it every time. Lots of variety, all tempting. Many other appetizers are cool too. Surprisingly, their...Dal Tadka was a disappointment; twice. Portions: Average. Beers: Good choices. Ambiance: Patio on this new location is nice.More
Had dinner with my husband and we were both very impressed wIt’s the service and food. Love good Indian food and felt this was exceptional. The service was great. We were brought a few small plates to taste that we didn’t order and were pleasantly...surprised. Have only good things to say about Gurus food and service.More
Guru's Indian Cuisine is by far the best Indian food in the area! You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu! Everything is adjusted for your spice level preference. They are currently doing curbside pickup during the pandemic. Their chicken tikka masala and chole...are out of this world!More
Take out—Terrible!! Compared to another Indian Resturante in the area. I would rate the other Resturante at 9 and Guru’s at a 4.
