We visited on a Saturday evening. We did have reservations!! Alfred's Victorian Restaurant is an 1888 Victorian Brownstone. Its decorated with antiques, carved wood and gingerbread accents. The menu offered a number of Tuscan, Italian dishes. We had a loaf of warm Italian bread wedged...with provolone cheese and herbed garlic butter that was to die for. Actually we had two of those. The Flaming Victorian Salad is a great salad where they flambé the croutons tableside. Our entree was the Tuscan chicken. It was very delicious. Highly recommend. on the National Register of Historic Places.More

We arrived at 5:30. We sat for about 15 mins before anyone came to our table. We were given the menus and sat for another 15 mins. We then ordered drinks and because of the slow service ordered our meals when drinks were delivered. It...was then we realized our server had a large table in the other room and was basically ignoring us. It was going on 7 PM and still no salads came. I asked for owner and complained to her. That went no place. She really seemed to not care about our complaints. By 7:15 we did get salads and by 7:30 dinner came. I have never been to this restaurant before but had heard how wonderful the food was. Three of us ordered the special for that night. It was horrible. The chicken was tough and tasteless. I was so disappointed. The fourth person ordered crab cakes. He said it was OK. The tables are close together so when you are talking the people around you hear what your saying. The table next to us kept listening to our conversation. Not very nice. I will NEVER eat there again and do not recommend to anyone.More

Drinks: Two Old Fashions were ok at best. Two Martinis, one had little gin, other had none. Food: Lobster Diablo was one of the specials, $49. It had one small lobster fragment, the rest was tiny shrimp. It was sent back. Pasta entree with "Tuscan...meat sauce" (menu said beef, sausage, bacon) tasted like tomato sauce with hamburger. The other two entrees were just ok at best. Wine list looked adequate but several wines listed were unavailable. Sadly, we won't be back.More

Our first visit to Alfred's was in the summer of 1973, several months prior to our wedding. It was a culinary delight then, as it was last night, and as it has been during the past 45+ years. The food was fantastic, the service by...Carlos was impeccable, and the atmosphere never gets old. We are far from being 'foodies' but if we want a great meal or want to celebrate a special occasion, this is where you will find us. Over the years, the formality has changed (no more suits and ties), but that is happening everywhere, and at times I do miss it. But time marches on. Thank you Alfred's for being there for us and providing us with our special dining experience.More

Great food, unique atmosphere. If your waiter is Greg, turn and run. Service unbelievably bad. Drinks made with stale mixers. 20-25 minutes between visits to your table to ask if you would like anything. Heard 10x about a big party upstairs, like I care. I...was there for my wife and I, not there "big party" upstairs. Very, very disappointed in service but food was very good.More

Time has passed this restaurant by. I really wanted to like it. The staff was very nice and the decor (although very outdated) had a certain charm about it. The food... where do I start! It was a special Valentines menu. $65/person and they added...a 20% gratuity. The marscapone and crackers were really just store bought flavorless crackers with a hunk of cheese covered in jelly. My salad was romaine, one cut up strawberry, a handful of bagged slivered almonds, and I think there maybe was dressing on it. The beef tenderloin was definitely cooked ahead at whatever temp they thought was right (well done) and then served sliced with a weird gravy. Maybe 5 slices!!!! Dessert... we had the peanut butter pie. It tasted like butter flavored crisco and powdered sugar with a bit of peanut butter. They never asked if we wanted coffee or anything else. Just gave us the check and told us “no hurry”. We were in and out in an hour!More

Was wanting to try this restaurant for awhile and love a good Italian restaurant but this was not it! My husband got a veal dish which was pretty good, my chicken entree was just so so! And there is no choice what comes with your...meal.... one vegetable and one potato which vegetable was on the cold side and potato was so so also! Have had a lot better Italian bread at many other restaurants also! Overpriced and not sure how others give a good review. We both were not happy with the money we spent and food we received , no salad even came with meal. Will not be back!More

I was a little let down by thinking about the great food we’re going to have. Gourmet Italian, home cooked. Nothing we had was home made. I had tortellini with marinara sauce and shrimp. Then the desserts to pick from are really nothing to pick...from. You think this kind of place would have some sort of cheese cake, but no they don’t. It was okay. I expected to rate this restaurant a 10, but I feel it only deserves a 6.More

Went to dinner at this old Victorian and was totally disappointed. First of all the place looks like a bordello in need of a serious cleaning. This made me concerned about the food. Needless to say the food was uninspired at best. The red sauce...was awful. There are better places to go.More

My wife and I chose Alfred's to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. The historic building located not far from Harrisburg is a genuine gem of a building that honors 1800's architecture. The intimate setting of the dining room made for...a very relaxing meal and the top notch service by the entire staff really made the experience unforgettable. We chose to indulge in table side dining offered in the way of Caesar Salad, Steak Dianne and Cherries Jubilee. All were made fresh right before our eyes and just made the whole meal feel extra special. We began the night with an order of Spedino, a baked loaf of bread consisting of butter and mozzarella and it was absolutely addictive, we probably could've eaten a couple loaves easily. The pace of the meal was consistent and the food was prepared to our liking and tasted fantastic. We topped off the night with the table side cherries jubilee, coffee and complimentary chilled lemoncini cordials in celebration of our anniversary. We most definitely plan on visiting this exquisite restaurant again in the future. On a side note, the restaurant is run by Alfred's wife now and she is doing a wonderful job of keeping the restaurant grounded in tradition and quality. She is ever present and even assists with the service throughout the meal - a very nice touch.More

On a recent trip to Middletown we were able to experience one of most interesting and educational look back at History. Alfred's Victorian Restaurant transports you there. The surroundings alone are breathtaking add exceptional good food, and service you could not ask for anything better....We ate lunch at the restaurant and were very much satisfied that I wished it was closer to home so that we could visit it more often. The only sticking point was that the restrooms were on the second floor and there were many stairs to climb. But there is nothing perfect in this world but this restaurant is almost there. Try it and I am sure you will not be disappointed.More

About 20 years ago we had dinner at Alfreds. I'm not sure why we hadn't been back, but we weren't. When we entered it was being in a Victorian home furnishings and all. Our waiter was the exact same person we had the last time...and he was still giving more than excellent service. The seafood bisque was just absolutely excellent. For the entree I choose the Conch done in a Marsala Wine sauce. In my experience Alfreds has always done things extremely well and this was not an exception. The only complaint was the water spots on the the silver ware.More
