This is a hidden gem. If you want good German food, at a very reasonable price and in a quaint atmosphere this the place for you. We had the schnitzel dinner, with German potato salad. The schnitzel was a nice size portion. The potato salad was the best I have ever had and my wife and her family make excellent German potato salad so I am spoiled. We asked if they had apple strudel for dessert and they said they had a peach strudel with home made whipped cream. If they have it - GET IT! Along with a cup of coffee it was so so good. In fact I’ll take it over apple strudel.
All in all this was a very nice relaxing night.

We have eater here three times in the last two months. It is what used to be someone's house and not a made up place to look German. The food is the real deal. Everything we have eaten has been very good to excellent. Try to save room for desert. If not take home some strudel and you will not be sorry. We have takes others and they agreed that the quality of the food was exceptional. Please make a reservation as it is a very small place. Prices are reasonable for the common working man and you will not go away hungry.

Meeting my Sister and Mom off the Turnpike and I didn’t want to go to the restaurant right off the exit. Found this gem on Trip Advisor and we were very pleased. My Sister lived in Germany for three years and thought it was great. She was very excited to find some of the grocery items she used to use there. The spaetzle was sooo light and fluffy, the schnitzel was crisp and tender, and the waitress was friendly and efficient. Lunch was so tasty I ordered take away to take home to my family! It was obvious that everything was homemade with pride!

Disappointing at best; cold day and cafe (5 4-top tables) was chilly; we were the only guests. Cash only. Two loaves of bread in the case to buy - NO apple strudel available; my lunch was lukewarm and small portion. Made with genuine imported items but the spaetzel was packaged dried noodles; sauce was again packaged which they present with some mushrooms added; kraut was jarred (also for sale) with apple butter added. Not a scratch kitchen more like doctored up items and so, seems expensive. One time was enough.

It is seldom that you find such Authentic German food. If you are not used to REAL German food, this is it. The owners are very kind and really want you to enjoy the meal. I was surprised that the Sauerbraten was in chinks rather than sliced, but the flavor was very nice. The German Potato Salad was delicious, as was the red cabbage! I am not easily impressed, but this was very tasty without too much salt or vinegar, like other places we have tried. I was thrilled to find the jars of German Pickles to buy for home because there are hard to come by. Everything sold in grocery stores is so full of salt and garlic, but these are mild dill and refreshing. The restaurant is inside what looks like a house, but they have deli meat, german bread, jams, etc. I encourage you to try this very casual, simple family friendly restaurant.

Although we've lived in the area for several decades, this place didn't grab our attention due to its name and the building's history: first a home, then a bakery, now a German cafe & market. The building is unassuming. Inside, it reminded me of a boardinghouse in that it was obvious a home at one time and the decorations are the type one would see in a home. We were lucky. Although there are only five tables, we chose a night when all but one was empty. Josie's doesn't advertise much and relies on being known by locals. Josie was a German immigrant whose son and daughter-in-law took the reins after her death. Two words jump into my head when trying to describe the food. Outstanding! Authentic! Those in our party ordered Weisswurt, Currywurst, and Jagerschnitzel. Everyone raved. I couldn't believe how good my choice was. We all had apple struedel that was loaded with apples. Top with whipped cream, it was not very sweet, which made it even more delicious. This isn't a fancy place. It's comfortable. The small market is right inside the front door as well as appliances for perishable foods being adjacent to the main eating area. Prices were more than reasonable. The owners do everything, which emphasizes the feeling of intimacy. The very limited seating must be stressed; do make reservations. We were lucky.

Josie’s is a quaint and inviting small restaurant with incredible German food. As you enter a delightful aromatic scent wafts from the kitchen letting one know they made the right choice for dinner. The Schnitzel served with German potato salad was cooked to perfection and described as sehr gut. The Sauerbraten which was served with fresh homemade spaetzle and red cabbage was delicious and authentic…brotchen are a must to be sure none of the wonderful sauce stays behind. Coffee and tea were a perfect accompaniment for the delicious in house made apple streudel topped with a cinnamon whipped cream. We must return soon to try the other German choices on the menu. The Market in the front is a fun diversion while waiting for dinner or browsing after.

Quaint eatery with great selection of German lunch plates and attached market with German food products. Service was fast and friendly, lunch was a nice change from fast food while traveling through the area. Not too far off I-81

I think if you are craving a schnitzel then you should get one from here to go. Not sure how their brats or wurst is but I would guess pretty good. The Jager schnitzel sauce was very good. The schnitzel was crunchy and moist. German potato salad was ok but heavy with the onions. I wish it was a bit more spruced up on the outside and the seating area but I'm sure it's a big expense.

My wife and I were very pleased with our meals. The spätzle was the best I have ever had. There is nothing fancy about the inside but we had a great waitress and some of the best German food at a affordable price . We look forward to go back again and try other items on the menu.

That adage describes Josie's. The Jaeger Schnitzels were outstanding and everyone enjoyed the spatzles also. Two members of our group lived near here and were always hesitant about coming here due to perception. They loved it !! Ashley asked us about desert and we got the apple strudel and were very pleased with it. Next time we return to area, we will definitely come back! Need to have German music playing in background.

We had an very fruitful and enjoyable day trip to Salzburg as led by (German) Mark who is the best tour guide I ever met. He is very knowledgeable, responsible, and professional and really take an extra step to offer his professional services. We all learned a lot from him about the history of the places we visited. Because of his extra effort and unbeatable service provided, a group of 25 most 1st-timer visited this beautiful and historical city. If there is another return visit, I would definitely like to ask his excellent tour guide service again. A big THANK-YOU to the (German) Mark! Well done. I will definitely introduce my friends or colleagues to take up the tour services from Radius Tours too. I give 5 out of 5 score for the excellent and quality services providing.

Very small German cafe and market in Mechanicsburg. My husband and I went on a date night. We both tried 2 different beef dinners with potato salad on the side. Everything was very good and served very quickly. Save room for dessert ~ The apple strudel was amazing!! We will be back!
