The food is okay nothing special. They give huge portions, but I would rather they give less food of better quality. Last time I was there my salad had so many bad rotting pieces of greens in it it was downright nasty. Prior visits had been a little better. The decor is old and tired; I think this place is... When my kids were young, this was the place we went when they were happy...or sad...or scared...or anything. The Sumney could make them feel better. It was never overly crowded and the staff was friendly. It was good "bar food" with a few surprises. We noticed the quality declining in the past few years. The waitstaff seemed less interested. Items... More

We stopped in Sumney Tavern for dinner while traveling through Lansdale. We chose this place because of a sign advertising kids night (although not the night we stopped in) so we knew it would probably be family friendly. It is much bigger than it appears from outside. There is plenty of parking. We very much enjoyed dining at Sumney Tavern.... More

Sumney Tavern is an Irish-style pub that is a popular spot for locals and Merck employees. The decor is dark wood, brass fixtures and green wallpaper. Entertainment is a regular feature and the horseshoe bar often is busy. The menu of usual pub fare (burgers, flatbreads, pastas, sandwiches, etc) is augmented by nightly features (open-face crab melt). Portions are large... More

The food was varied and delicious .... scrambled eggs, omelet station, creamed chipped beef, bacon, sausage, scrapple, potatoes, sweet potato waffles, fresh fruit .... so much food it is hard to remember it all. If you order the waffles, don't forget to ask your waitstaff for fresh whipped cream.

What a surprise. This tavern has a very creative chef who is not only into bar food. We chose off the special menu on Monday evening. Since it was 5:15 we got the early bird price which at $12.99 was a bargain. We started off with a salad for me and soup for my husband. He chose the lasagna soup... More

The food is good. Great steak. The soup is also good. A good anytime place. Drinks are good. Have not had a bad meal. A must try.

This small town tavern/restaurant has some visual appeal as an old-school, charming family pub (vs. a modern chain) but is a poor excuse for an adequate eatery. The menu is basic slop- meatloaf, wings, nachos, etc., that sells well in this working class neighborhood, but is far removed from the thoughtful, modern cuisine that many brew pubs and innovative eateries... The Sumney is a good place to meet friends or take the family for a meal. Their prices are moderate and the food is always delicious.

Arrived in Lansdale for a brief trip and found a lot of the restaurants were closed due to the hour. I figured worst case I could get a burger in this tavern but I was wrong. The menu was a pleasant surprise and the bartender was very friendly and helpful. He steered us to the Tomato Crown Salad which was... More
