A sad reminder of the times in which we live. Last evening and with much anticipation we ate at one of our favorite Lancaster restaurants. However, Citronelle did not deliver. The service was spotty at best and the finality of the dinner, the Lemongrass Soufflé...was an even greater let down. One of the nice aspects of this restaurant was that it basically informed its patrons that it was for dining not just eating. As a result, the diner should allot up to 2 hours for the experience. Well last evening, it was for just eating. While the food served was very good as was expected, the entrée was served as the appetizer plates were removed and the much anticipated soufflé brought to the table before the entrée plates were removed. The result was the soufflé returned to the kitchen and when it reappeared (we were informed that it had been remade), it was badly made. We were informed that the kitchen staff normally 8 in number was reduced to 2. Difficulty in finding people to work in the restaurant was the reason given. This has become a common problem in dining out and we have experienced this at more than one restaurant. It seems to be that we have reached a moment in time considering the low unemployment rate that restaurants need to compensate their employees with higher pay and perhaps pass this along to the customers or consider lobbying the government to allow for increased immigration to fill the service industry gap. We do not want to see a restaurant of this quality to fail due to a lack of workers.More

Arrived early for our reservation due to lack of traffic on a Friday. Friendly masked staff sat us early at our table while we waited for our other couple to arrive. Warm decor, elegant, soft upbeat dinner music playing at the exactly the right volume....Pleasant, added ambience to the atmosphere, and you can still easily talk and hear each other. And finally, a restaurant chair that is comfortable for me. The dining room felt clean, cool and refreshing, air temperature was not too cold or too hot. So to set the tone for how the evening progressed, our server brought some bread to the table. But this is not ordinary bread. For those who haven't dined here, I don't want to ruin the surprise, but let's just say I could have filled up on the bread alone it was that delicious, and I don't usually eat bread. First courses, the crab croquettes, were... just...delicious. I find it hard to describe them. Presentation was beautiful like in the picture online. Quality ingredients, perfectly prepared. Rich but not overboard. Smooth and silky, not a hint of shell. Our other first course was the pate. This is easily enough to share with a friend. The flavors were amazing paired with our bottle of wine (BYOB) (Karen Birmingham Zinn Lodi reserve, 2018). Perfectly sliced and seasoned baguette really complimented the pate. I was in heaven with this rich pate and wine combo. The peppery watercress was a nice accent with this appetizer, and the pickled long beans added a nice balance to the dish. So, now I'm already full...lol Next up, my Steak Frites. I'm a beef eater by nature. My Steak arrived perfectly medium rare with a wonderful reduction sauce served in a separate small heated glassware, and the fries were amazingly crisp but tender. All fresh ingredients for sure. The cut was large for me but perfect for someone younger who can eat a lot. I shared all my courses, of course, and everyone agreed the flavors of my appetizers and steak were awesome. Finally, to round out the night, the Decadent Chocolate Souffle. The perfect experience didn't stop until I finished the last bite. I haven't ordered a dessert in over two years, but I saw this one come out for another table, and heard the patron's comments, so I HAD to try it. A wonderful experience from arrival to departure. Definitely going back...More

We first dined here on April 17, 2021 and our server Peyton was in training with Andrew. It was amazing the first time and we were so happy to be able to secure a reservation for patio seating on August 21, 2021. Peyton and Andrew...are great servers and are still there. The menu is fabulous and the food presentation and taste is perfect in every way. This is a MUST GO TO restaurant. It is BYOB which is never inconvenient for us. Jon and I highly recommend and do truly enjoy fine dining with a taste for everything done right.More

We visited Citronnelle to celebrate my husband's birth followed by a show at the FultonTheater. From the moment we walked into the restaurant we had a wonderful experience. The chef's wife introduced some of the delicious things on the menu and acknowledged my husband's birthday....I wrote this celebration as a note when I made the reservation. We started with delicious flavored teas which we got iced. The appetizers were extradoinary. My husband had octopus and I had the pate. The mix of flavors was unique and sublime. Our entrees were fabulous. I had Barramundi and my husband steak. Once again the blend of herbs and spices was sublime. For dessert my husband had the soufflé and I had Japanese cheesecake. No surprise - terrific. There has been a lot of careful thought and experimentation to our dishes. The meal was perfect. There service was outstanding. I loved the ambience. I felt like I was in a small cafe either in France or SOHO. It was WOW!More

We held a repast dinner at Citronnelle on Jan11th. Everything was outstanding!! Dealing with Susan was terrific and she managed to accommodate our party of 24 beautifully. Everyone in our party raved about the food - and we are a picky bunch of New Yorkers...- not an easy crowd! Especially delicious were the crab croquettes - just amazing! Everyone loved the butternut squash soup, the pork chop, the steak, the special fish - Barramundi, (yum!), chocolate soufflé, Citronnelle soufflé.....it was all delicious and the service was exemplary in every way. I think that Citronnelle may very well be the best restaurant in Lancaster and I don’t say that sort of thing easily. Go and enjoy and BYOB makes it that much better!More

We dined at Citronnelle with a group of eight. The staff handled the large party well. Several people had main courses while others sampled appetizers. All were enjoyed thoroughly, although several found the black rice to be too spicy. I would go back again. BYOB...alcohol with a small corkage fee.More

I went here for dinner on Thursday and was so captivated that I brought my husband back two nights later! The vichyssoise is out of this world, and the barramundi special, corn risotto, and heirloom tomato salad were perfectly prepared. We had excellent service both...evenings. Lovely, charming interior. Just remember to BYOB!More

We had a great meal at thi place. It's BYOB, so don't forget to bring your own libations. Corkage fee at $5 is very reasonable. The menu is small, but the dishes are all top notch. The carpaccio appetizer was very tasty, as was the...heritage tomato salad. The lamb bolognese with artichokes and fennel over pasta was simply outstanding. Save room for dessert, as the chocolate souffle was worth waiting for. Make reservations, as they don't hve a lot of tables.More

My wife and I visited “Citronnelle” on the first Friday in May - a very busy evening in downtown Lancaster. Despite it being a last minute request for a reservation, the owner (Sue) managed to seat us at 7:30. Our dinner was nothing less than...superb! My wife had a steak and I had a pork dish ... both dishes were done to perfection and elegantly presented - the Lemongrass soufflé dessert is not not to be missed! The restaurant is centrally located and has a very intimate atmosphere. As for the pricing point, I don’t think that there is a better place to eat in Lancaster!!More

Four of us went to Citronnelle for Sunday Brunch. It is a tiny place, but they must manage their reservations well as we did not wait for a table and did not see anyone wait. We all had different dishes and everyone loved their meal....My omelette of mushrooms and brie was big and fluffy. The accompanying potatoes were crisp on the outside soft on the inside mixed with pearl onions. The coffee was very good and they brought warm cream to put in it! It was a little noisy because there was a very large table that were drinking many bottles of their BYOB champagne. We were not rushed and had good service. The bread basket was good but a little pricey.More

My spouse and I decided to avoid the love rush on Valentine's Day and went out to dinner a week before. Okay so we will not taste their 5 to 9 course specially prepared Valentine Dinner but our 4 course meals last night were outstanding...The country pate appetizer was exquisite with plenty of wee toasts for sharing and the Moroccan Salad was scrumptious and quite unique for this area. I had Arctic Char special that was served with a sauce that was so subtle yet decadent and flavorful I left nothing on my plate and said out loud, "...this is the best fish dish I have had in a long time....". My spouse ate the Mushroom Tajarin made with homemade pasta that was perfection on a plate. It is almost impossible to find homemade pasta anywhere so don't miss this. Of course being it was a special dinner we each ordered a different souffle and shared. These sensual desserts ought not be missed no matter how small your stomach may be. Just don't wear tight clothes ! It is BYOB so we brought a Malbec from a liquor store down the road from the restaurant which complimented our romantic dinner for two. Since it was midweek in February and we went early we were the only couple in the restaurant and got a premium table in the corner. One other couple came in and got another premium table by the window. If you like crowded small delicious restaurants then by all means go on a weekend but if you prefer a wee bit less crowded affair go during the week or go early but whatever you do treat yourself to this very special and top of the line foodie experience. You will not regret the money you spent for dinner and a tip and of course the BYOB. This restaurant is a must for anyone that appreciates excellent food.More
