Verbena BYOB is a fine dining restaurant located in the heart of Kennett Square. We are a seasonally focused restaurant using foods from local farms, cheese makers, honey producers, and small merchants whenever possible. We specialized in tasting menus, hors d'oeuvre parties, and private events with seating up to 36 guests.

This is our third visit to Verbena. No complaints about the food. Menu is small, progressive and well done. Quality is very good and ingredients are fresh. Food service is good and the wait staff is knowledgeable. But the overall service is average. It is...BYOB and there is a charge for wine service. I recommend amending it to a corkage, as there is really no service. After the bottle is uncorked and the first few sips are poured, no one comes back and does any further "service." Actually no one came and did any water service either, even though we usually purchase a bottle of sparkling water. Our tab at the last visit, with tax and tip, was $171.00. I tipped 18% because of average service. And remember the tab does not include alcohol. Also, we were seated at a rather suboptimal table. We requested to be moved, but were given a story about the automated reservation system assigning tables (which I guess is written in stone). But a few minutes later another couple was moved as they did not like their table. We found that interesting. But then we were offered their table (the one they did not like), and we took it because if was still much better than our original table. Then came the espresso issue at the end of the meal. We ordered two single espressos, and were told that the machine was being "angry" and they were fixing it. Now the problem here is that both my wife and I have owned and run multiple successful restaurants, one of them being a gourmet coffee and tea house. Our espresso machine at home is a professional Giotto. So you can see, I will spot a bad espresso a mile away. The espressos served to us last night were probably the worst I have ever had. There was zero crema, and the consistency was thin. It might as well have been instant coffee. The espressos were also served in a double glass vessel. Albeit cool, and I love progressive vessels for serving liquids, some things should be left in their classic form; espresso cups being one. And frankly there are some amazing funky looking and artsy espresso service ware out there. My recommendation is to investigate those options. We will be back to Verbena. Most times the atmosphere is wonderful for an intimate dinner with a special someone or special friends. Last evening got a bit loud and there was some colorful language being thrown around. But this is not the norm. Overall, I like this place. The food is good, desserts that we have tried have been quite good as well. The price point is a bit high, but appropriate for their aspiration. They have been open two years now. A bit still to go to reach the aspiration which would match the price point.More

We love dining in an intimate atmosphere and decided to give this restaurant a try and it happened to be Valentine's Day. Made reservations but when we arrived we were told that the only choice would be the multi-course meal. It was quite a unique...culinary experience at a measured pace with each course explained. It was very pricey.More

FANTASTIC and OUTSTANDING are words that describe the culinary skills of Chef Owner Scott Morozin and our dining experience at Verbena BYOB last night. Our table of 8 (4 were repeat guests and 4 were new guests) all agreed this restaurant is a keeper. Silvi,...Carol and the staff showed their passion for food by explaining the menu items and the reasons why the restaurant uses only locally sourced vegetables and proteins. Knowing where the mushrooms, game hen and beef came from may seem like advertising fluff until you taste it - then you get the vision! Except for the dinner rolls, Chef Scott makes everything in house, even the phenomenal desserts! He continues to push himself to explore new flavors, textures and presentations to make every visit to Verbena a new experience for his guests. Everyone in our group loved their meal and the portions were large enough even for big eaters. Chef Scott's love of what he does shows in his artistic plating, attention to detail, and the fantastic food he prepares. Valentine's Day is Verbena's 2nd anniversary. Kennett Square is lucky to have such a wonderful restaurant and talented chef.More

My family and I have dined at Verbena BYOB for dinner several times over the past year and consistently leave impressed. The kitchen at Verbena is helmed by a terrifically talented, always affable, and extremely creative chef, Scott. The ambiance is stellar – nicely appointed...wooden tables, hardwood flooring, and candles throughout the cozy restaurant makes for a beautiful and very refined feeling space. The service from the extremely knowledgeable wait staff who know the frequently changing and smart menu inside and out, is always friendly and exceptional. Chef Scott only uses the highest quality of fresh, and largely local ingredients, and everything is made in house. On our most recent visit, I had the acorn squash soup (wonderful texture and a unique and exceptional flavor), the steak tartare topped with quail egg, crème fraiche, and a dollop of osetra caviar (a beautiful dish brimming with mouthwatering flavors and delicious prime beef), and the braised lamb shank on a bed of Moroccan couscous (a very generous portion of flavorful, fall-of-the bone tender, lamb on a bed of perfectly cooked and delicious couscous). My wife had a salad to start (she just loved it and, having had a bite, I fully agree – fresh greens with a beautiful medley of vegetables served with an outstanding tomatillo “yogurt” dressing) and the fluke with lentils and pork belly (creative, flavorful, fresh, and delectable). Our kids shared the deckle steak entrée which was accompanied by a selection of cauliflower and a piece of potato lasagna in an au jus (tender, perfectly cooked medium rare, incredibly flavorful). The meal ended with crème brulee and a chocolate truffle served with carrot dust (creative and the perfect end to a perfect meal). Verbena is, in my opinion, the no contest best restaurant in Kennett Square, and the food rates right up there in my book with many top metropolitan fine dining establishments. Visit after visit, every course is always not just good, but outstanding.More

We did a couples night on Friday with reservations. The place is a BYOB and they don't charge a corkage fee. Excellent parking available in the Kennett Square garage with an easy walk across the street to the restaurant. We were seated prompltly as a...group in the back section. Initially the waitstaff was very attentive but as the night wore on they appeared to be too busy to keep up with the necessary level of service to our table. We ordered from the menu with a breif explaination of what we were getting but they excluded the portion size from the description. The menu is a First Course - Second Course setup for a reason. Some of our second course choices were very small and not very filling. The dishes are meant to be prepared with fresh/organic/local items - When the food arrived the server had a hard time actually explaining what was in the dish. (unidentified items were always mushrooms) Plan on spending about $50 per person to feel satisfied and that is without alcohol. Remember it is a BYOB.More

everything was great. our first courses (gazpacho and roasted mushroom soup) were phenomenal -- interesting, complex tastes. our main courses -- mushroom ravioli and lamb kofta --- were perfectly prepared, brilliantly conceived, and delicious. desserts -- baklava with honey ice cream and bread pudding with...cream cheese ice cream -- were great. wonderful to talk with chef scott when he came over toward the end of dinner.More

We won a gift card to Verbena in a silent auction to benefit a nonprofit and looked forward to using it on a recent visit to Kennet Square after reading reviews and viewing the website. We were not disappointed. One might not expect a restaurant...of this caliber in little Kennet Square. When the chef came out to visit our table, he told us how many of the things on our plates came in that day from the farmers market across the street. You don't get any fresher or locally sourced than that. And meeting him was a real treat. This was the kind of sophisticated, flavorful food we expect from high end restaurants in Philadelphia. We didn't opt for the tasting menu, although watching diners around us enjoy it, we might try that on a future visit. I enjoyed the salmon which melted in my mouth and was incredibly flavorful. My partner and I shared the avocado and greens salad and the carrots, greens and green bean in it which were purchased that day from the local market were wonderful. My partner enjoyed the linguini and clams. This is one of his favorite dishes and he wasn't disappointed. While I'm typically a chocolate gal for dessert, I enjoyed the baklava and ice cream as well as the panna cotta which was subtly flavored with lavender, one of my favorites. It was delightful and felt like eating a cloud. Service, too, was attentive and pleasant. While the restaurant was sparsely populated with guests, I was a bit surprised that it took the wait staff as long as it did to remove our entree plates. The pace of the meal was just right. The two staff seemed to be fairly busy, so my only advice would be a bit more attention to those little details which are so important in the type of establishment Verbena aspires to be. This is not an inexpensive venture, but we thought that given the wonderfully creative flavors, it was a good value. Since it's a BYOB, you save money on the booze. We got out of there for less than $100 for two people. We often come close to that on much less amazing food in non-BYOB restaurants. Give it a try. Support this creative chef. We'd love to see him succeed and fulfill his dream.More

The space is beautiful. Quaint and cozy but the food is the real star here. We were with friends and were immediately greeted and walked to our table. She gave us plenty of time to chat with our friends and then took our order. 3...of us had the mussels which were out of this world. Such a generous portion and we all enjoyed the broth in a red sauce. It was like a hearty soup. Our friend order the seasonal salad which look as appealing as it tasted. For the main I enjoyed Pork Cheeks. The presentation was wonderful and such an unusual offering I just had to order it. It was delicious . The others had the salmon, and filet. Everyone was very pleased with their choices but we still had to taste the dessert. Baklava and the Creme Burlee. No disappointment here.More

Yes I think it is per person but I suggest you call to double check the price . It’s not expensive and well worth being able to bring an expensive bottle along with you and not paying double the restaurant price for it... More
