We were driving Melbourne to Sydney and just happened upon the whale. The food was just so good. Seriously good. Service was brilliant. To be fair, except it was raining I can't remember anything about the night in Narooma except the food. Considering driving down for a weekend just to go again.

My husband was initially quite apprehensive about driving 45 minutes to Narooma for dinner, but he loved the atmosphere, food, service and wine at the Whale Restaurant. Our only regret is not booking a babysitter for another night so we could visit again (as the restaurant is closed in the day). We arrived shortly after sunset, but apparently the view... More

Situated high on the bluff overlooking the estuary and ocean the views are almost as good as the food! The menue screams LOCAL/FRESH. The chief's use of top locally sourced ingredients coupled with a skillful use of "Bush tucker" is a delight to the pallet. The wine list shows care an detail with which you will easily match with the... More

In Narooma for work with a colleague and had dinner at the Whale. What a find. We both had the semolina gnocchi with blue cheese sauce, fresh local steamed vegetables and to start Artisan baked bread with house churned butter and Wagonga Inlet sea salt. The menu has something for everyone. Absolutely delicious. Staff were warm and friendly and the... More

This was our second visit to the Whale and again we were not disappointed. The team would certainly hold their own in the Syd or Melb restaurant scene. The dishes are wonderfully crafted and showcase local produce at its best. The wine list extensive and you are sure to find a gem or something you are yet to try. What... More

Had dinner whilst staying at the Motor Inn and very impressed: service was fast, efficient and friendly and the food was excellent. We both had oysters to start and then the mains of osso bucco and lamb were excellent - well cooked, well presented and good portions. We were dubious about eating here as the decor looked a bit dated... More

Service was great, and friendly, from reception to right through the evening. We were expertly guided through both the food and wine menus. The food, from the entrees, mains and dessert were all fresh and delicious, and the wine selections vast and very reasonably priced. It was a pleasant surprise to find such a quality restaurant, with such a nice... More

Ordered lamb shoulder from the menu sounded unreal, disappointed with serving size maybe 6-7 bite size pieces of meat for 30 dollars. (A whole leg of lamb can be bought for the same money) Tasted great but disappointed with value. My partner ordered scotch fillet that was tough. Had a better steak at the million dollar view pub for lunch.

If you love great water views, playing golf and the convenience of eating local then this place has it all. Accomodation is good (the views are to die for), the staff friendly and attentive, the restaurant food excellent (try the smoked lamb) and it is close to the Narooma golf course which is simply magnificent (one of the best courses...
