Evening meal for two and a pint of the local brew by the roaring fire. The Devizes butcher who supplies the meats came up trumps with the fine well-hung steak done to a turn. Excellent quality. Maybe not the cheapest we've had but so handy for the accommodation at the rear. Breakfast was just as good by teh way.

Quite simply the food and the dining experience are very very good, We ate at lunchtime and with no exaggeration the food was inspirational. This is not a " run of the mill" gastro pub with microwaved ready meals ( there are far too many of those around !) . The Old House is different with a chef who has... More

We visited this pub yesterday for a birthday meal with my brother and travelled from Somerset. It was well worth the journey ! It has a lovely atmosphere ,fire burning and candles on all the tables. We had three courses all of which were excellent, all four of us having different things .My venison was to die for,the chef giving me extra jus... We visited friends and stayed at the Inn - we were so pleased. The Inn has tastefully been renovated and the interior is outstanding. The bedrooms are adjacent and all on one level. The rooms are extremely well furnished in a contemporary manner. Very clean and comfortable. The staff are brilliant - so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much... More

I used to live local to here around 7 years ago and this was always my favourite go to place for a nice meal. The pub is atmospheric and authentic and a lovely little place. We visited on a Saturday lunchtime and had no problem getting a table even though we hadn't booked. We chose to have a light portion... More

We met two old friends here and had a very leisurely lunch. The food was superb and every time the landlord came to our table he joked with us in a very easy way. And we were not hurried through our meal and then encouraged to leave as is the case now with many pubs. Would not hesitate to visit... More

We booked a special deal through Travelzoo, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. After visiting Castle Combe and doing the walk from the village, we drove back to have lunch. Really well presented and tasty, with a good selection on the menu, this was a memorable meal. The pub has been refurbished, but retained its traditional style, which is airy and... More

Stayed at this little gem of a Wiltshire pub last night and have got to say we loved it! Fab accommodation with French shabby chic furnishing and a huge wet room. For a caffeine addict like me the inclusion of the Bosch coffee machine was a very welcome touch. We had our own little patio with a table and chairs... More

Managed to secure an offer for dinner / lunch so thought we'd give it a try for lunch and as it was my birthday. I've always had a slight suspicion of restaurants promoting themselves through web offers or vouchers but that view was completely dispelled today. Friendly greeting by a lovely young lady and then very pleasant ongoing service by... More

A regular food stop for us some 15 years ago. Moved away and were looking forward to going back for the first time in many years. Pub still has a lot of character. Food still very good but Service felt impersonal. Staff seemed that they were not willing to interact, some were scruffily dressed and as a result the service... More
