6 of us called in for lunch whilst on our way home after a bike ride. It was 12.30pm & they had run out of brown bread. The service was very slow with drinks arriving & been drunk before any food arrived, they were only sandwiches! We could hear other people muttering about the delays. Its a pity because its... More

We visit this cafe every time we are over from Manchester and it has always been a favourite of ours, alas it wasn't the same on our last visit a couple of weeks ago. The service was terrible, nobody seemed to know what they were doing and the avo on toast was inedible, how is it possible to go wrong... More

22 Flavours of good ice cream that benefits greatly from not being too sweet. Well worth a visit on a hot day but big queues and slow service from a moody teenager when I went.

We queued for nearly 40 minutes to get an ice cream from this cafe on a hot, sunny weekend in early April. There was only one girl serving and the queue moved incredibly slowly so we were really hoping that the ice cream better be some of the best we had tasted in order to justify our long wait! We... My wife and I popped here for a sweet treat and a coffee on the way home after lunch in a nearby pub and we're delighted we did. Great selection of hot drinks, I had a latte and the chocolate brownie/buns were heavenly. Such lovely friendly staff as well. We'll definitely pop back and probably with the kids as they... More

Nice drinks. However toilet is very poor and need improvement. There is a 2" hole in the door where a lock has been removed and the toilet seat hinge is broken. Very nice position tho. Just needs a small bit off tlc

Description
We are a small and friendly, community centric cafe that strives to meet the needs of the 'Park People'. We are located in the old pavillion in Calder Holmes Park, with the river on one side and the beautiful canal on the other. We serve quality food from a simple but varied menu with meat and vegetarian options, the ingredients for which are locally and ethically sourced. Choose from a range of freshly prepared sandwiches and salads, fresh fruit smoothies, great fairtrade and organic coffee, the tasty Park Life Burger, falafel pitta or a good ol' bacon butty! We offer 22 exciting and enticing flavours of local dairy ice cream that is served from our hatch at the side of the cafe building. Sit inside and listen to some good tunes, read from our bookshelf or flick through one of the interesting magazines we subscribe to. Or just look out the window, out across the old bowling green and watch the birds busy in the treetops. We pride ourselves on our strong community ethos (having been qualified youth and community workers in another life!) and work closely with the Friends of Calder Holmes Park to try and improve and develop the park, a valuable and dynamic public space.
