We’ve been a few times over the years and always enjoyed the food .traditional country pub , next to the caneL so popular with dog walkers. We thought the Covid precautions were good and felt safe . Service was good.
Generous portions I had steak pie , served in the pot with a flaky pastry top and hubby had cheese and leek pie( about £12 each ) cooked fresh , both served with chunky chips and fresh mixed veg. Really nice relaxed mid week lunch

The Stubbing is just brilliant because it is welcoming, warm and highly dependable. It is always there, it always serves food, the menu is extensive and reliably tasty. It isn’t Michelin but very acceptable and enjoyable pub food and a bit more. The location is great.

Very surprised at the quality for the price, and the kid’s portion was massive! The baguettes were fresh and fully loaded, the chips were proper (double or even triple fried, certainly not frozen) and the salad was fresh and well presented. Service was fab and the setting was lovely. Worth noting that there are two outdoor sections, road side and canal side, I would definitely recommend canal side. We chose here to eat as it gave us a perfect loop to play/walk/ eat with our 3 year old and 3 dogs in tow. We parked at hebden train station (only 50p an hour make sure to take change) and then walked 5 mins to Calder Homes Park, the park had a great variety and was really well kept. We then took a nice stroll down the canal looking at the narrow boats and arrived at stubbing wharf about 25 mins later (google maps will tell you it’s 15 min walk but there were geese and boats and flowers to admire so those with little ones just need allow that extra time). Service was quick at the wharf and it was pleasantly refreshing to have a selection of non-alcoholic ales on offer. Will definitely recommend and visit again!

Let me start by saying that the food was excellent. However, the service was lacking. It is table service only, and We were promptly shown to a table upstairs, in the back corner. We were served our drinks and food in a timely fashion, but this is where the service went downhill. I appreciate that things are difficult in the current climate, but at no time were we approached to see if everything was ok, or more importantly, if there was anything else we needed. Like maybe a second round of drinks. After we finished eating, we waited another 10 minutes before someone came to clear the table and enquire if we wanted anything else. After waiting over 20 minutes with an empty glass, I just got the bill and left. Sad to say, I probably won't go back until things return to some semblance of normality.

After visiting Hebden Bridge for the first time, my partner and I ate here on 31 July 2021. From the outside, it is really lovely, with the canal at the rear. However, inside it is rather dull and dark as the vintage light bulbs give off very little light - so much so that I had to get my mobile out to read the menu with the light on it.
The first thing I would like to advise this pub is, if you are going to put Pimms No 1 on the bar menu, for goodness sake, please make sure you have the right ingredients and that your bar staff have some idea how to make one!! I was absolutely appalled by what was served to me!!!!! The barman poured a measure of Pimms No 1 into a tall glass and put some ice in it!! I asked him where the lemonade and fruit were. His response was, “Oh, you wanted lemonade in it” to which I responded, “Yes and I’d like some fruit too, please”.
He took the glass and put some lemonade and a slice of either lemon or lime in it! I said, “Where are the strawberries, the mint, orange and other fruits. His response was, “We don’t have any other fruits”!
I must admit that the food was delivered promptly and the waitresses were lovely. For the mains I had the roast belly pork and my partner had the fish and chips. I am well aware that roast belly pork is usually fatty but I’ve never had anything like this! The vast majority of it was fat with very little pork. It would appear that the vegetables were steamed. I am not a great lover of steamed vegetables but I WILL eat them. However, these were nearly RAW!!
I don’t know why, but the desserts took longer to arrive than the main meals. I had the malteser cheesecake and my partner had the sticky toffee pudding. The cheesecake was sweet and very sickly. I had to give it to my partner to eat. There is very little choice in desserts and nothing at all with fruit – obviously as I’d been told this at the bar!!!!!
As it was now time for coffees, I ordered a double espresso and my partner ordered a cappuccino. I quite honestly wish I hadn’t have bothered as my espresso tasted like the instant espresso you can buy in Tesco.
It is also NOT table service, which obviously means that once you have eaten, you have to get up and go and order at the bar. Furthermore, you are not even given receipts.
We had looked at two eating establishments prior to our first visit to Hebden Bridge and decided on this one. Unfortunately, I think we chose the wrong one!

Booked a table for 5pm as an anniversary treat for our parents. Whilst looking through the menus the waitress came to inform us of all that was NOT available. We made our choices, went to place the order to find out two of the chosen starters were also not available and one of the mains (as well as all the others we had been told about).
Waited an hour for the chips to come out as a starter ( as requested at the point of ordering and reminded a waitress sometime later). The mains arrived not long after and the food was nice. However, an offering of mango chutney with a curry would be nice and more than four of the tiniest mushrooms ever with the gammon with egg….pineapple did not appear to be an option. The menu said it came with onion rings so I was confused when the staff member asked if I wanted onion rings as an extra! When I read out to him it’s included he just said he thought I might want more.
The waitress was clearly embarrassed at being the messenger of bad news. We were offered an appeasement deal as they had taken so long, which was agreed.
The bill came and seemed very high! After checking through, each £12.49 meal had gone through at £13.99. A lemonade, a lime & soda, two blackcurrant and lemonades went through at £3.75 each!! The most I have ever paid for a lime and soda is £2! We didn’t quibble about the drinks, although unhappy, but did get a refund for the obvious £6 overcharge on the meals…..after staff checking the menu prices!
All in all, nice pub, pleasant and friendly staff, expensive drinks, slow service, food nice but minimal on the veg. I would not recommend and will not be returning.

I went with my family on Thursday day time as we were in search of a nice pub lunch. I remember coming here before for drinks and thought the food looked good. We shared the garlic mushroom starter which was great. For mains, my mum had the gammon which came in a very generous portion, my dad had the wharf burger which he said was delicious and I had the battered haddock sandwich which was very filling and tasted great. We were full but couldn’t resist dessert where we got a sticky toffee pudding and a malteaser cheesecake to all share. They were delicious. It was great to see hand sanitizer throughout the restaurant and attentive staff in masks. Overall the stay was amazing, with great service and food. We will definitely be back!

Sunday evening last, we toddled across to the Wharf instead of cooking and were served with pintas at a reasonable price. We ordered a roast dinner and had quite a wait because, as we were advised, the chef had called in sick that day. When the turkey dinner arrived, we were presented with one of the best pub meals we'd ever had and believe me, as motorhomers, we've had some belting food across this fair land. It seems from speaking with the present manager, Dan, he is taking steps to address the situation. I haven't been able to award five stars this time but as my local, I'm rooting for the place not only for my own sake but for those young people who work very hard to give visitors the kind of hospitality we all expect from a well loved country pub.

lovely meals, fish chips & peas, scampi chips & salad and houmous with mixed olives & chips. all three of us really enjoyed our meals sat at the back of the pub by the canal, you go to the bar area to order your food and pick up your utensils etc from the small room to the right of the bar, about a 10mins wait for our food to arrive which was really good as the pub was fairly busy. will definitely be visiting again soon.

Family of 6 birthday get together last week. Pleasant bar staff. Nice venue, service very slow even though it was quiet.
Group ordered mainly chicken wings with various sauces , as a starter ,hardly need a chef to cook these.
I skipped a starter so I was ready for my main an hour later . Fish & chips , no care of presentation. Very small dessert size portion of peas. Chips were not hot, batter on fish looked grey, I could not cut through it easily, like leather , no fish in much of batter, The small amount of fish was inedible, dry & overcooked. I only ate a very small amount of my meal. No-one came to ask if our food was ok . As is a normal thing to do where food is served. Out of 6 meals , only one of our group enjoyed their meal . I went to the bar to order more drinks, I then saw our waitress & I pointed to my meal & explained what was wrong . I didn't want to create a fuss , I was offered a dessert & accepted a sundae as I was starving .
I really wanted my money back , that would have been the correct thing to happen . I felt embarassed to ask .
It really spoilt my birthday , also considering we spent over £240 there on overpriced food & drink I felt very disgruntled. I ate supper when I returned home.
Several people since have said to me that they believe that it's not a good place to eat now, what a shame.
Customer service is not good , maybe they don't care or maybe lack of training ?
It was very quiet last tuesday evening, maybe that should have set alarm bells ringing ! I don't think we'll be returning , much nicer food & better service at other pubs in Hebden Bridge.

We booked a table for 7 people at 6.30pm on the Wednesday evening of the jubilee weekend. (I believe it had revently been bought out and refurbished). When we arrived and sat down it was clear this is a chain and the food probably wouldn't be home cooked but this isn't a problem, especially when out with children. We went to the bar to order, to be told they were out of chicken wings and steak. We asked if the steak on the mixed grill could be swapped with an extra piece of chicken but was told no. We wnt back to the table, chose burgers instead,
went back to the bar to order, to be told there were no burger buns! REALLY!!! We walked out, went onto the Old Gate bar and restaurant and had an amazing dinner, freshly cooked with amazing service at a similar price.

Well I do not recommend this place . How rude and not replying to my phone conversation with management at this establishment after ringing to ask why there was nothing priced up on there menus for Food or Drink on there web site.
So I commented of there Facebook page today
Asking why still no prices on there food or drink still . So they just BLOCKED ME 🤣🤣 ridiculous
Can see locals not going there soon
Good luck Stubbins . With that attitude you'll need it

Booked a table for 8 for a late lunch and was surprised to see the pub so busy. It made for a good atmosphere, this is helped by the low level lighting and music. The menu is typical pub grub with really good specials. The service was good despite how busy it was. The food is really well cooked, portions are generous and they gave us a huge plate of various vegetables. The belly pork and black pudding mash was delicious, the meat was so well cooked. What a great place to end a walk.

The Stubbing Wharf has been a great meeting place for family for years, but after it's changed hands, the food was akin to a crappy Wetherspoons, with my fish pie resembling a smartprice microwave meal, scolding hot underneath and dry and hard on top. It didn't even look like mashed potato. Everyone else's was either cold, tasteless or average at best. The food took ages to come and was just a bit of an all round disappointment. We won't be back, which is such a shame really!
