Awesome staples everyday for lunch, with fresh bread and pasta. Cookies and pastries make a great take home surprise...seek this place out as it is not easily found.

We were in town for business and wanted a local place to eat. We tried Palumbos but were sorely disappointed. (Anyone who puts canned mushrooms on a pizza should not be in business...) Anyway, we tried Alavaros and were SO impressed! The food was amazing and the service was great. We felt right at home in the store. I can... More

It has been over a year-not my choice. Slipped in last week for a great dinner. A special was braised chicken legs with mushrooms. Also had egg plant-mama's way. This tiny byo in uptown Harrisburg is a real winner.

Alvaro's is essentially a tiny cafe from the streets of Rome transplanted on Green Street in Uptown Harrisburg. The food is fresh, hot, and made to order. The pasta is homemade and everything about this place is authentic Italian down to the gelato. I recommend ordering from the specials menu (you can pick and choose two of any of the... More

This place can compete with places in Little Italy! We went for lunch and I had the raviolis with meatballs and my boyfriend had penne. Both were excellent. You can tell that everything (pasta, meatballs, bread, etc.) is freshly made. I didn't have room for dessert but we got some cannolis to go. The clerk said they were made within... More

You should try this little gem of a place. Seating is very limited, so be sure to make a reservation early in the week if you want to go on a Friday or Saturday night. The food is all terrific and reasonably priced. It's a BYOB place, so remember your wine! Save room for dessert too, lots of goodies to... More

I highly recommend this place! They don't always have the pistachio cookies, but if they have them when you visit, buy some! You will not regret it. The owners are committed to providing a quality product prepared with a true love of great ingredients and tested traditions. They also return regularly to Italy and continue to try new dishes.

Everything is made fresh, so if you don't get there early for the lunch rush, they might run out of their daily specials. Menu changes daily. Dishes are very generous in portion size, flavors are great. Pizza slices are big enough for two people (unless you're really hungry). It's in the middle of a residential area so unless you know... I love this hidden gem in the city. Great no amazing food. Family run very charming, staff is super helpful and friendly. I'm glad it's a half hour away or I would weigh 500 pounds I just can't get enough of their chicken parm. Just an amazing place to eat I have never had a bad meal here.
