Wow is all I can say! We were all recovering from the flu and snow was over 8 inches. McGarrey's food to the rescue Blue steak salad was awesome and I have black and bleu burger daughter wants to dock a half star as the sweet onion dressing did not come on her salad. Even the fries were good

Nice neighborhood restaurant

I had made a reservation there before we left for vacation, because of COVID. I wanted to support small businesses in PA, since we live in PA. We were seated immediately and our server was right there. Nice neighborhood atmosphere, friendly people. We both really enjoyed our meals, Husband ordered a stuffed baked rigatoni dish with sausages, peppers and onions, it disappeared very quickly. I ordered the meat ravioli, they make all of there pastas, it was very good and it is really difficult to find a restaurant that offers meat ravioli.

Excellent, Affordable

Very busy on a routine Wednesday night at 5:30. YOU SHOULD MAKE A RESERVATION. It was an older crowd (like me) and there was only one table open. I started with e Italian Wedding Soup. It was delicious (a tad salty), with chunks of chicken and small meatballs. I also had the Marinated Strip Steak with mashed potatoes. The meat was tasty and cooked exactly as I wanted it. The mashed potatoes were real (not powdered) and very good. The roll was a nice surprise-a bakery quality roll instead of a standard offering. With tax and tip with water, it came to under $20. They had no desserts, which was curious, but better for the waistline!

They’ve still got the magic!

McGarry‘s has been around a long time. And I have to tell you, they still have the magic. When I arrived at the restaurant at 11:30 AM, looking for a place to get a good bite of lunch, the parking on both sides of the restaurant was full. That’s always a good sign. I ordered one of their lunch specials, which was a chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich with a cup of beef Spoetzl soup. It was amazing. I’ve never had that soup before, and it was bursting with flavor. And the sandwich was hearty. To top it all off, the price was pretty decent, given the inflation that we’re going through right now. I’m so happy to see this family restaurant continues to thrive. May it do so for many years to come.

Food and service is exceptional

You can tell the popularity of the place by the constant influx of customers into this neighborhood eatery. We had never eaten here before but it was recommended by a friend. We are so happy we took their advice. It's not a fancy place and that may turn some people off but there are so many positives. The menu is lengthy and everyone is bound to find something to enjoy. I went with veal parmesan (side of spaghetti) and salad; hubby had hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and homemade soup. We were given rolls and butter with our meals. So many items are made in-house, the ranch dressing is heavenly too. Our entrees were so good with large portions. Our waitress was very attentive in every way. My only regret is we have no opportunity to return for another meal. Next time we visit Erie, it's a date!

Try the Reuben!

Stopped here with hubs on our latest visit to Erie. We like to try local places. I had the Reuben with sweet potato fries. Excellent! Bread was perfect, meat was tender, kraut had just the right tang. Highly recommend. Fries were very good, even though they were a waffle cut (not my fav). Decor is dated, but didn’t bother us. Menu is huge. Service was fine. Will for sure go again.

Oakwood-Patty Melt

Great article in NYT regarding Patty Melts; they are now hot stuff! I have been eating Oakwood Melts for 40+ years- ask Aaron who knows I don’t need a menu- only thing I eat there. They are the best/ only need to ask for grilled onions and some 1000 island sauce- nothing better/ heresy: better than the Reuben!

10 out of 10 would never recommend

So we have been coming here sporadically over the past few decades, nevermind the hair occasionally found in the food. My husband went here for lunch with family. Apparently he asked for meatloaf. This my friends is mystery meat and tastes like it looks, like 💩 cucka. There are better places to eat. When I called them about this they were unapologetic and told me to try the Reuben next time. (Literally the only decent thing they serve). I was like yeah ya think? But you smothered gravy on dogwood and served it lol. That was the end of that conversation. They do not care. Enjoy the pics, let me know, does THIS look appetizing?

Excellent Reubens!

Went there today on a cold rainy Friday. Every table was occupied. The service was quick and the food was excellent. The waitress was very pleasant and cheerful even though she said she was the only waitress working. Other staff helped out- they all seemed happy to be working there, adding to the enjoyable experience.

Food and service was excellent! Definitely not a bar to go hang out at. The bar is to close to booths so you feel like everyone can hear everything you are saying and it was weirdly quiet inside… not exactly a party atmosphere LOL However, the food was GREAT! Clearly, this place is known for good food because the phone was ringing off the hook for takeout while we were there. If back in the area we would order takeout from there for sure.

Really enjoyed a home style dinner!

Came here with my husband on a Sunday evening for dinner. We got one of the last tables available. We got the hot roast beef and stuffed cabbage. Everything was really good, portions were huge, and we enjoyed the home style foods. The waitress was also very friendly. I would definitely come back!

One of Erie’s Best Family Restaurants

One of Erie’s Best Family Restaurants. Lots of menu items with a constant rotation of specials. Some unique items but mostly a catch all of variety. I enjoyed the Erie-style Greek hotdogs. Our server was attentive and efficient. The footprint of this place is small relative to their volume so be prepared to wait if you arrive during peak times.

Always great food

Went here for lunch with my husband. I ordered the turkey melt with fries. It's always fantastic. My husband ordered the corned beef and Swiss on rye. He loved it. A great local place to eat. The food is always great and the staff are friendly.

A Winner!

Stopped for lunch 7-5-20 and were glad we did. Huge menu, good food, excellent service. Although there is no outside dining, all tables in bar have been separated by plexiglass. Tables on other side of restaurant have been distanced.

Great eats!

Perfect spot for a casual dinner. Staff was super friendly and menu options were endless. Our meals were delicious and we will be making this our goto spot to eat while we were in Erie! Recommended to friends!
